Orihime tapped the plush dog with the fork, smiling to herself as she did so. The stuffed Labrador toy gave no indications of confusion or dismay at what was happening, and stared forward with the felt tongue sticking out and glass eyes lifeless and looking at nothing.

This was because it had always been a plush toy. However, moments before, it had been a fox. If it was aware of this it would have been upset. It would have liked being a fox. However, it was fluff, wool, and felt. It had little concern about how it looked.

The fork had also been a spoon, but this was not so significant as utensils were even less concerned about appearances than stuffed toys, even if they were able to be aware of them.

She had been experiment now for some time since her discover. With the right combination and some concentration, she could use her spiritual pressure to change and control the physical forms of objects. She had started with a pot plant, turning it into wood entirely.

She had then tried to change the shapes of the objects as well as materials, such as a spoon into a fork, chopsticks into spoons, forks into chopsticks... And before she wound up changing all the utensils in the house into something to replace what she had already transformed, she had moved onto the stuffed animals.

It had not  crossed her mind to try changing the objects into more valuable materials, and even when it would it would not hold much interest for her - After all, people would ask a lot of questions as to where all these golden spoons and toy dolls were coming from... Besides, there was a slight flaw with it anyway.

'Perfect change to the dog toy... Now to see if I can change it back!' She thought  to herself, and concentrated.

The small plush dog did not react at first, but then it wobbled, and the whole thing gently shook. The pale yellow fluff of the toy's fur became darker, deeper, redder. The drooping ears retracted and became pointed as they moved up the head, their tips turning black. The thinner dog tail puffed out and expanded, and soon enough, the plush fox was back to normal.

Orihime whooped with joy at this.

'Great! I've got this down perfect with objects...'

What about living things? She'd tried with a pot plant, but they weren't really living as such. Something more alive than a plant, would it work on them?

'I could ask someone to be a test subject?' She thought.

'Ah, but who do I ask? If I tell them they'll be worried about side effects... I don't like it but I'd have to not tell them until they got here. Or not tell them at all until I try it...'

Another thought occurred to her.

'I can't invite a guy over either, that'll look weird.... Maybe... Maybe I ask Rukia over and change her...'

She had her plan, one which made her feel guilty, but a plan.

***

Rukia knocked on the door, and found it open.

"Orhime? Are you here? You wanted me to come over?" She asked, entering Orhime's home.

"Hello Rukia... Um, yeah, I wanted you over, I have something to try out. And before I do it, sorry, but I was worried you'd say no and I really need someone to try this on."

Rukia blinked.

"Um, sorry, what's this thing you want to try exactly? Because it sounds like... What are you doing?"

This last question was in response to Orhime closing her eyes, and then something feeling very odd...

"Wait.... Why did you say sorry?" Rukia asked, suddenly feeling like things were getting bigger...

Orihime opened her eyes, and watched. Rukia felt herself getting smaller... And  it felt odd. She looked down, and saw her fingers were shrinking. As well as that, hair was growing all over her arm.

"What did you do?!" She cried out, and then felt other changes. Her jaw began extending, something began growing from her spine, and she suddenly lost balance, falling forward onto her hands as her head began pulling upwards.

She tried to ask again, but to her surprise, barked.

'Did I just bark?! Why did I bark?!'

She tried to move towards Orihime, only to fall down as her feet chose then to extend outwards a little and knock her out of balance. She stood up, whining, and found she had four feet now, for her hands were paws.

She blinked, glared up at Orihime, and growled.

'You turned me into a dog?!'

"I'm really sorry, Rukia, but I had to test this somehow and... Well, if I asked you'd have said no! But it's safe! I can change you back or into something else!"

She produced a toy Labrador, recently turned that way from being a fox. Rukia growled still, watching.

"Um, maybe you want to see what you look like first?"

'What, no! I want you to turn me back!'

Orihime however had ran off to another room, and Rukia followed, finding her feet... paws... with her new four legged body. Orihime was standing beside a mirror, and Rukia halted.

The black haired Labrador in the mirror halted and stared too.

'Wait, why is this a surprise? I knew I was a dog... Wait, don't dogs usually freak out when they see mirrors and think it's another dog?'

Neither of the two noted the significance that the instincts of the animal had nothing to do with physical form. Instead, as a human in the guise of a dog, Rukia was merely a little surprised to see for herself what she had become.

And also a little startled to notice that she appeared to still have her underwear on.

'Wait... That means...'

She padded to the door, and looked back at the empty pile of her clothes. She tried to groan, but whined instead.

"Um, do you want those clothes off?" Orihime said, and before Rukia knew, they were pulled off and thrown onto the rest of the pile.

She turned around, growling.

"Anyway, look, it's safe. Watch this toy..."

Rukia looked, and saw the dog's ears stand on end. The hind legs became a little wider, the yellow became grey, and the nose became smaller. Rukia recongised it even before the ears became the familiar shape.

'A bunny! Um, I mean... A bunny! Damn it. Why couldn't you have changed me into a bunny?!'

"See? Toy dog, toy rabbit, and now toy fox..."

'What? No! Don't change the bunny! Leave the bunny alone!'

Rukia whined as the toy bunny shifted, turned orange, and soon enough became a fox.

"I think we need to try communication though... Here, can you write with this pen in your mouth?" Orihime said, offering a pen forward and putting paper on the floor.

Rukia pondered biting her, but was quick enough to realise if Orhime was going crazy and willing to turn her into a dog, the other girl could easily make this worse. She took the pen, and tried to write.

The key word, was tried. The scrawls were illegible.

'...Plan B'

A few scratches on the paper later, and Rukia pointed to her masterpiece with her snout. Orihime picked it up, stared, and then blinked for a few moments.

It depicted a bunny, with a small stick figure. An arrow pointed from the stick figure to the rabbit.

"Um, no, I turned you into a Labrador, not a rabbit... But that's a pretty good drawing you managed to do considering... better than usual..."

'No! Turn me into a rabbit! If you're going to do weird stuff I might as well enjoy it!' Rukia whined as she thought this, not actually noticing the last part of the sentence in her surprise at Orihime's failue to understand.

She then blinked again,.

'Wow, I'm glad I couldn't say that out loud, it sounded wrong...'

Orihime however was worried.

'What if there is a side effect? She doesn't understand she's a dog, she thinks she's a rabbit... And she wanted her clothes off. That wasn't a normal response come to think of it!' She fretted.

"Wait here, I'll get a bathrobe so you can change... Um. Well, so I can change you back."

Orihime then left the room, and Rukia tried to roll her eyes.

'Huh. Dogs can't roll their eyes? Weird.'

***

A moment later, Rukia felt very silly.

'I'm a dog, wearing a bathrobe. Great...'

Orihime had brought her clothes into the room, and also had placed the bathrobe around her (hopefully) temporarily canine neck. The plan being, as she became human it would spare blushes. It was currently tied around the middle, and slightly open at the legs.

"Okay, this won't take long..." Orihime said, closing her eyes, and Rukia felt a slight change. Like something shifting... Between her legs? Her tail shrinking?

Orihime opened her eyes and frowned.

"But... I should have changed you.."

She seemed to freeze in place.

"Um... Er... Rukia, don't panic, I'll change you back human! And you'll still be a girl!"

'What do you...'

Rukia looked in the mirror, at the gap in the bathrobes.

Rukai growled.

'A dog is bad enough but a boy dog?! I don't care if you don't like this, I'm going to bite you then make you change me back!'

Rukia lunged, as Orihime had closed her eyes.

***

"Ow.... Did you just headbutt my..."

Orihime blinked.

The puppy Rukia had become whined.

"Oh crap..."

'Owww... my nose...'

***

Orihime tried again, as the puppy whined and held its nose. Rukia stopped whining, and sat up straight.

"Damn, still a puppy... Look, I can fix this... But I guess my idea to make your nose stop hurting worked, right? One bark for yes, two for no?"

Rukia sat there staring.

"...Rukia?" Orihime patted her head gently.

The plush dog kept staring as Orihime fainted.

'What have you done now?! I can't move at all! No, don't faint! Don't leave me like this! And don't land on me either! Aaagh!'

Rukia paused as Orihime landed on her. It felt squashed, but hadn't hurt.

'Great. Now it's dark.'

***

Orihime awoke a few moments later, and saw the plush dog as she sat up. Her eyes bulged and she gasped.

'Don't faint again!'

"Um... Okay, I'll... I'll try again..." She said, standing Rukia back up in front of the mirror.

Orihime did her thing, and Rukia tried to move.

'No good, try again... Wait... What's that?' Rukia thought. She could see her own reflection and the black felt of the toy puppy was the same, but her head and legs were shifting... The ears were getting pointed....

'A cat?! A plush cat?!'

"Ah, that's not it either! This is harder than I expected!"

Orihime tried again. Black became grey.

'I feel a lot less... fluffy... Wait... Am I...'

Orihime blinked, and then tapped the small grey cat. It clunked, a solid sounding tap of metal on stone.

'Great, I'm a cat statue! You idiot, how is this even remotely close to changing me back?!'

Orihime wobbled.

'Wait... No, don't... Don't faint again! I don't think I'll be a soft landing this time!'

Fortunately, Orihime missed the small stone cat.

'Thank goodness... Wait! Wake up! Turn me into something that can move so I can bite you!'

***

Orihime awoke again a few minutes later. She did not freak out again but admonished herself for fainting.

"This time for sure..."

Rukia blinked a moment later, and would have sighed, but cats seemingly lacked this like dogs lacked the ability to roll their eyes.

'Screw it. I have claws.'

Rukia turned, and swiped a paw at Orhime's hand. The still-human girl yelped as she was scratched.

"Okay, I guess I deserved that... You're still you though, right? One hiss for yes..."

Rukia hissed.

'Yes, I'm still me and I'm still a cat! Fix it!'

Orihime tried again. Rukia felt herself get a little bit larger, but not terribly so. She looked in the mirror.

Orange and black stripes looked back.

"Ah! No, that's wrong too!"

'A Tiger cub? Kitten? What are these called? Wait! Never mind! Fix this, I've got bigger claws...'

She was interrupted as she was changed again. She felt herself get thinner, except at her feet, where somehow things bulged out. Her body and neck became thin, and her head felt like it was splitting open.

'Wait... What am I now... I can't move again! And... I'm a plant?! How can I see if I'm a plant?!'

The potted Tiger Lilly then realised something else.

'How could I see while I was a plushie? Or a statue?'

There was no answer, just Orihime yelping, and changing her again. Rukia braced mentally for impact...

***

She felt arms.

She felt legs.

She felt a head.

She felt about a foot high.

She also felt immobile.

Rukia was very, very, annoyed.

'A Garden Gnome Fairy... thing?! Another thing that can't move?!'

At least she'd had the sense to make the change have clothes. If she had been a naked gnome...

"Ah, not again! I'm getting close though..."

Orihime tried. Rukia felt larger, and then wanted to scream again.

'Human, yeah, but not made of wood and not about six years old you idiot!'

She was a wooden statue of a human now, wearing a dress like the fairy had worn.

Orihime groaned.

"Okay, this has to be it... I'm running out of energy..."

'What?! No you don't, change me back...'

"Now!" Rukia heard herself scream.

Orihime whooped, then stopped.

"Um, Rukia... You're still only a kid, but..."

Rukia screeched. She was still wearing the same fairy dress, she was now a lot smaller, and now a lot angrier.

"But nothing! Back to normal, normal clothes and normal age! Human! Female! Not a statue! Normal clothes!" She ranted.

Orihime flinched.

"O...Okay, but..."

"Now!" Rukia screeched.

Orihime obeyed.  Rukia grew larger, and the dress shifted into her school uniform. Not the same as what she had been wearing, but it would do...

"Okay, fine. You made your test, it worked eventually, and I'm annoyed. Good work. I'm taking my real clothes and going home now." She fumed.

Orihime only nodded.

"Um... Sorry... But, if you listen to me for a second..."

"I don't care! Next time ask me so I can say no!" She raged as she stormed out. She did not add the thought she had at the end of her sentence.

'Or at least make me into a bunny!'

Orihime sighed.

"But... If I leave things for half an hour they change back. She should have got dressed first, I've no idea what'll happen to those clothes she had on... They must be part of her still transformed..." Orihime sighed.

It was thirty one minutes later she actually realised the problem. The Rukia and her dress that Rukia had become, were unfortunately on the subway as the transformation began to undo...

Luckily, it was merely undoing to something else.

***

"Mommy, why does that girl have a bunny tail?"

"Don't point, it's rude. Besides, it's just on her skirt..."

Rukia blinked, wondering where this person was, then noticed that the girl who had asked that was staring at her. The train came to her stop, and she dashed towards the toilets, which were thankfully empty as she looked at her backside in confusion.

She stared.

She kept staring.

Finally, she asked herself one thing.

"...What?"

The tail was growing out of her skirt, was attached to it, and attached to her...
