Raven was not exactly pleased at the moment.
The somewhat reclusive and emotionless girl had a small problem, in that efforts to keep to herself and meditate, were being wrecked.
The cause? The only other girl on the team. Starfire. Her opposite. Trying to butt in on others and with enough emotions to... have a lot of emotions.
But today, she had a plan. Or so she had thought at first. She was mediating. Starfire was bored. And no doubt, Starfire would try to get her to do something sterotypical. Clothes shopping. Talking. Hanging out. Hanging out clothes shopping. Talking about clothes shopping. Teenage girl stuff that Raven had no time for.
She did have emotions. For example, when the door opened and she heard the voice say the same thing every time to start the annoyance, she felt frustration
"Hello, friend Raven!"
Normally that lead to dread and irritation. But today, she felt satisfaction. Her plan was about to start. A trance spell she had tried to learn.
A trance spell to calm Starfire down a little. Just put her under, tell her to leave her alone... She'd be positive towards anything said. She wasn't planning anything nasty with it. Just 'would you like to leave me alone, Starfire?' and she would. And really, Raven had little else to have Starfire do most of the time but just get out of her hair.
She turned and spoke the enchantment, staring right into Starfire's eyes.
When she blinked and suddenly found herself in completely different clothing, not staring at Starfire, in a completely different room and that it was apparently three weeks later according to the calendar nearby, she responded in a manner atypical of her emotionless façade.
She screamed.
"What happened?! How did I..."
She studied herself. Oh, oh no. A mini skirt. A tube top. And they weren't black. Where was the hood? Where was the cloak? Why did she feel off-balance?
"Careful, friend Raven, you are leaning too far back on your..."
"Yeaaaagh!"
"...High heeled shoes."
Raven picked herself up, and looked furious.
"Okay... Expla...Whoa..."
She had meant to demand an explanation. She had wobbled on her heels again. She stayed upright, but interrupted herself to remove the offending shoes, and hurl them out a window.
"Friend Raven! You broke the window! Ah, and you are bare footed! This is dangerous... I will have someone remove the glass, please wait..."
"No! Starfire, what happened? Last I remember, three weeks ago, you walked into my room..."
"Oh. Well, I am unsure what precisely happened but you said something and suddenly became strange. You have been acting strange over the time period since then. It has been nice, but it is also nice you are back to normal. We were concerned."
Raven sighed.
"Okay... Tell me what happened. I don't care if you don't understand why it happened, just tell me what I did..."
Starfire grinned, forgetting about the glass for now, and spoke...
***
Three Weeks Ago...
Raven spoke, and suddenly looked startled, but only for a second. Starfire noticed that she seemed to zone out.
"...Friend Raven? You are quite quiet. Normally you are briefly more vocal upon my entry. "
Starfire walked over.
"What is the matter?"
Raven's face twitched as she stared off at nothing.
"Nothing is the matter. What do you wish to do?"
"I was wondering if you would like to go and 'hang out' or talk, or do some other standard activity. Would you like to?"
Raven's face twitched again as she replied.
"I would like to."
Starfire let out a small squeak of pleasure.
"You would? Really?"
"I would. Really."
Starfire was practically jumping up and down.
"This is wonderful! Wait, this is not a prank or joke is it?"
"It is not a prank or joke."
Starfire frowned.
"Friend Raven, you seem somewhat up in the dumps. Are you feeling stresses of life?"
"I am feeling stresses of life." Raven replied, with a monotone and a twitch.
"Then this is a chance to loosen down and let up your hair! What activities do you wish to do?
"I am uncertain."
Starfire thought for a moment.
"I have the idea! We could go on a trip of shopping! New clothing may make you feel better. Would that be good?" She asked.
"That would be good..." Raven mumbled.
Starfire squealed louder, and hugged the entranced girl, still oblivious to the reasons why her friend was so receptive.
"This is a very good news! I am most pleased! I hope that this is pleasing to you too!"
"It is pleasing." Raven said.
"Then let us go left away to the shopping!"
Starfire grabbed Raven, and half-dragged her out of the room....
***
Raven's face was twitching once again as Starfire explained events.
"You... You never realised that was odd?"
"At the time I did not. I was happy at your actions."
Raven sighed.
"Okay, so... what happened next?"
She paused, and realised something
"Hey... Wait, you must have realised at some point I was being odd. You knew I was acting strange and all..."
"Ah, yes. I did not notice it myself, it was noticed by another..." Starfire said. Raven's heart stopped.
Oh.
Oh no.
Raven gave herself three guesses, and the first two didn't count.
At that point, the probable answer himself walked into the room and looked at Raven.
"Oh... Hey, Raven. Are you out of that trance?"
Raven took a few seconds to catch up before replying to Beast Boy.
"How... How did you figure out I was in a trance?" She managed to ask.
"Well, when Starfire walked up with you and you both pretty much dragged me shopping with you I figured something was up." He replied.
"And you never said anything?! Why didn't you try to wake me up? Or tell the others about the problem?"
"Well, I was gonna try and tell Robin or Cyborg, but..."
"They were busy at the time." Starfire noted.
***
Three Weeks Ago, Again
"Um, I'd like to, Starfire, but uh... I have... to... help Cyborg with whatever he's doing."
"Oh, that is unfortunate. What is friend Cyborg doing?"
"I... think we should ask him."
Starfire nodded, still dragging Raven, and followed Robin to find Cyborg.
"Hello, friend Cyborg! We are going on a trip of shopping! Would you like to come?"
"Starfire, he can't, he's busy with whatever I'm going to help him with." Robin pointed out.
Cyborg was confused by this. His reply was somewhat standard.
"...What?"
"You know, that thing you're doing I need to help you with."
Cyborg saw the hint.
"Oh, yeah, that thing... That needs done now. And with two people. And will take a while. I think we had better go start now, actually."
"I agree. See you later, girls..." Robin said, as he and Cyborg virtually ran from the room.
"Well, what will we do now? It is supposed to be fun to let boys see the new clothing you are trying. I read this somewhere. Do you think this is more fun?"
Raven was forced to agree.
"But all the boys are busy, are they not?" Starfire pouted.
"Beast Boy is not busy..."
"What a good idea, friend Raven!"
Another short dragging spree, and the green shapeshifter found himself cornered.
"Um... Well, I have to..." Beast Boy tried, looking in confusion at Raven. She had just agreed with what Starfire had said like she was in a trance...
"It is to compliment and advise us upon the new clothes we are to buy! Robin and Cyborg were busy!"
"Oh. What are they doing, they might need help..." Beast Boy tried.
"It would be such a dissapointment to not have the most fun as me and Raven try new clothes and shop!" Starfire said, not really listening.
Beast Boy then had a terrible idea. Raven seemed to be taking orders in her trance, the others were busy... What harm would it do?
"Yeah, I guess it can't hurt. I get to try advise you on what to wear, right?" He grinned...
***
"Ha, that... That's a good joke, Starfire... Now, what really happened was..."
"I don't think she was lying, Beast Boy..." Raven fumed.
Beast Boy laughed again.
"Well, uh, she's just that good at acting! Now..."
"Friend Beast Boy, this is the truth..." Starfire said, puzzled.
"I'm gonna believe her first. Now, what really happened? The truth, or else. And all of the truth."
Beast Boy gulped nervously.
"Okay, that was it."
"So, you figured out I was in a trance, doing something I wouldn't normally do, and you just... Had me go an buy stupid clothes like these? Why didn't you try and figure out what was wrong?"
"I was gonna say to Robin about it, honest... Once we were done, I mean. Starfire was really insistent..." He tried
"That doesn't sound like truth..."
"Okay, okay! I really wanted to see where it was all going, okay?!"
"That's better. I'm going to kill you after you tell me what happened next, but that's better..."
A nervous Beast Boy stammered in fear.
"Friend Raven, Beast Boy appears to be broken. Will I finish explaining?"
Raven sighed.
"Sure."
***
Four Weeks Ago...
Just kidding.
Three Weeks Ago...
The trio had went to a mall, and it seemed to be a retroactive disaster to Raven. Apparently, sometime after the sixteenth far-too-short and far-too-skirty skirt, they had made a move onto dresses...
"That is another nice skirt, correct?"
"Yes." Raven said.
Beast Boy merely nodded.
"Um, yeah, but maybe she should try some of the dresses..."
"Indeed, try before buy!" Starfire said gleefully.
Naturally, Raven wound up liking and buying all the dresses suggested.
"What else could be added to the wardrobe for you, friend Raven?" Starfire pondered, and looked around.
"What about swimsuits? Maybe try some swimsuits." Beast Boy suggested.
Again, Raven liked them all, including to her future horror, a number of bikinis... Mostly all Starfire's suggestions, but Beast Boy had made no effort to stop the plan he had started.
***
At this point, Beast Boy seemed nervous. Raven was pondering how to hurt him for the swimsuit idea, but she noted his worry. She guessed it wrong.
"Wait... Who paid for all this?"
"You did, friend Raven. I asked many times if you were sure after you said you would pay for your own."
Raven groaned.
"How much did I waste... Wait, so, why are you nervous?" She challenged Beast Boy.
"Uh... I'm not. I was worried you were going to be more annoyed about the cost but you seem to not be going nuts over it yet..."
"You tricked me into buying stuff for you, didn't you?" Raven said, dismissing the lie.
He thought fast, and the half-truth, he decided, would help him get away with less injury. And since it was partially true, it wouldn't sound like a lie...
"No! Okay, okay. The real reason I'm nervous is because, well, Starfire wanted you to try um... Underwear. And I'm just worried about how annoyed you'll be at that. I wasn't there of course, I went away, girls only..."
"That is not true, friend Beast Boy! You were present. You stated it was no different from the swimsuit..."
Beast Boy froze in fear. His quick-planned escape route had forgotten about Starfire.
***
When Beast Boy woke up from his beating, Raven had went and changed into more regular clothing for herself, trying to ignore the fact it smelled suspiciously like it had been soaked in Starfire's shampoo. Or the fact all her clothes in her room had smelled like that.
"What happened then?"
"Well, we told Robin and Cyborg about what was happening with you. We looked around and found that trance spell you'd tried... Why were you using it anyway?"
Raven paused to consider her answer.
"I'm asking the questions now" She decided.
"When we saw the spell you were using would wear off, Robin decided that the best thing to do would be to leave it until you were back to normal. We also tried to make you do things you would not normally do after we noticed your face twitched during some of the things you would not do before."
Raven groaned again
"...Whose idea was that?"
Both Starfire and Beast Boy looked very nervous.
"Well..." Beast Boy began.
***
As he spoke, Raven's mind imagined exactly what these two had made her do.
"We figured you wouldn't normally shower in your regular clothes, would you? So... We had you do that."
A vision of herself entranced, with a vacant look on her face, agreeing to the command to stand in the shower fully dressed in her usual leotard and cloak. And trying to use the shower gel to wash herself even with those clothes on
"And also we guessed you'd never use Starfire's shampoo or shower gel, right? So..."
No wonder her normal clothes had smelt of lavender and peaches. The one that had been washed in it, the scent must have hung around and got onto the rest.
"We thought you'd never walk on your hands all day long..."
Walking through the Titan Tower, on her hands, legs waving in the air and idiotic blank face just staring forward with wide, empty, eyes.
"And I presumed you would never build a fort of pillows!" Starfire had weighed in.
Oh no. She saw herself stealing every pillow, cushion, and remotely fluffy object you could use in that to build an insanely large fort.
"And I also presumed you would not use laundry as a flag!"
...Where had Starfire got this idea?! Bad enough she'd be made to build a pillow fort but to fly someone's dirty laundry off a flagpole?
"...But that did not work as while in trance you did not seem to understand me."
Oh, that wasn't so bad.
"So you instead tried to build the fort from laundry and use a pillow as a flag." Beast Boy finished.
She. Was. Going. To. Kill. Them.
"...We then went swimming and we presumed you would never use your leotard to swim in." Starfire spoke again.
A completely vacant idiot, looking like an idiot, swimming in a soaking leotard, like an idiot.
"But you did not seem to be able to swim at all as your eyes did not close very often."
Wait. Why didn't her leotards smell of Chlorine?
"We then guessed you would not wash all the laundry in the tower using a full bottle of my shampoo."
Oh. Well, at least maybe everyone else would have been smelling stupid.
***
"That was all?" Raven asked, voice level but clearly not happy.
"I think so. Oh, we made you try and draw a picture but for some reason you uh... never drew one. Isn't that right, Starfire? She didn't understand how to draw while in trance?"
"That is... True, yes, that is completely true. You did not draw a crude cartoon of me and friend beast boy on fire and write the word die over the picture a lot."
Raven missed Starfire's obviously false denial (which was fortunate for them as the picture would have inspired her) and groaned as if in agony.
"Oh great... So you two had me act like an idiot around everyone..." She wailed.
"No! That's not what we did!" Beast boy exclaimed
Raven felt hopeful. Maybe that whole series of stupid things was a joke?
"No, we did not. We made sure friends Robin and Cyborg did not see!"
So, they'd really done it all then. On one hand, that meant the other two had no idea. On the other hand, that meant these two had made her act like an idiot for their own amusement.
"So... They have no idea what I did? What you two had me do?"
"Yeah! Um, we're sorry about it but we were trying to help! Honestly! " Beast Boy tried.
"Oh, I know. And see, the thing is, I don't want to know what you had me do. And I don't want you to know either."
"That is... Um... That does not sound good, somehow." Starfire said.
Beast Boy meanwhile had frozen in fear again. He seemed to whimper something about not setting fire to a bus.
"It is. See, I know what I did wrong. See you two in a couple of weeks..." Raven grinned, and tried the spell again.
This time, however, she was slightly more aware of her mistake. She saw the two before her seem to freeze in place as she felt everything slow down. Her eyelids felt heavy, but strangely they did not actually close. It was more like her conciousness was simply going to sleep and leaving her body awake...
It was strange. As she felt herself relax it was like her brain started to close down the useless things. She felt her thinking grow sluggish, and whatever part of her brain controlled her anger was switched off leaving her at peace. Her sense of smell and touch was not going to be too needed, so she felt the peachy-lavender scent vanish away, and the feeling of her whole body just go away.
Then all she thought of in her limited mind was obedience. She was to obey, obey her masters. Follow her orders. Leave useless things in slumber unless needed. Only important details were needed, and if it took too long or she did not understand she was to awaken her mind slowly but carefully. The one strong part of her mind was there to keep this sensation in place, created by the spell.
In her mind though, Raven's last few seconds of thinking for herself for now, were of the vision of the frozen pair. She was feeling relaxed. Almost like it was a good time to let someone else take over. But she wasn't going to sleep, not really...
She didn't have much time after then to worry about what the pair of idiots she had just tried to get revenge on would do to her instead before she would "wake" up again.
***
Raven blinked again. She realised she was in another room once again.
She quickly looked for a calendar. She saw a mirror first.
She saw herself wearing a maid's uniform and realised she was holding a duster.
She screamed again, and then, feeling very angry, went off to get an explanation from Starfire and Beast Boy. If they had any brains, they would have just done this as a prank at the end of the time. They wouldn't have, for instance, had her go up to Robin and say she wanted to clean the tower every evening. Even if somehow the possibility seemed strangely the most likely as to why she was wearing this.
What she wasn't going to do, this time, was try that stupid spell again, she swore to herself...
