Clipped from Infernal Restraints.

There is genius in how the damsel is tormented here. This low post that her ankles and knees are lashed to is diabolical. See those pegs in front of her ankles and behind her knees? She wedged in tightly between them. Also, they’re angled so that her knees are pushed out over top of her toes. This prevents her from being able to stand up completely straight and support herself with locked joints and her skeletal structure. Instead, she has to keep her legs slightly bent and hold herself with her thighs, or merely dangle by her wrists.

The fact that the post is cut off right there at the knees also means she can’t lean or otherwise rest against it. She really can’t use it much for balance either. So besides using her larger leg muscles to hold her weight, she’s also constantly using all of the smaller stabilization muscles in the shins, hips, and core. It’s got to be painful and exhausting.

This damsel is left alone to toggle between awful choices of engaging her weary legs or stretching herself from her wrists. Meanwhile her captors can just wait. Whether she makes strategically sound choices and maximizes rest or not, she IS going to fatigue. And fatigue makes each of us desperate in those moments leading up to failure.
