This one is going to be short and sweet and without all of the snarky humor I usually include. This is mostly because I haven’t been tied up properly in something like 72 hours and that SUCKS! I feel like I imagine a smoker might feel who hasn’t smoked a cig all day. Shaky and shit.
It’s also because I have to get ready for football later. Wish it was something more interesting that that, but that’s life in Paris, KY. Sue me.
All I want to do is talk about “Crossed Wrist” bondage. Y’All, I’ve been talking about the indisputable truth that crossed wrists are better than palm-to-palm and knuckle-to-knuckle and chicken wing and pretty much every other type of arm bondage out there. It just is! But now I’m going to explain why and settle the argument once and for all. And I brought visual aids. You can also call them “receipts” if you like. 😊
First, just go ahead and put your wrists together in fists, palm-to-palm. How much do they touch? It’s like, less than two inches of actual wrist to wrist contact. Now cross your wrists. See the difference? Your crossed wrists fit together like spoons. You have like nine square inches of wrist-to-wrist surface area. Contact is friction. The more friction, the more secure the bondage. Also, the more contact, the less slack. The less you can twist or turn which can agitate ropes. The less options a damsel has to figure a way out. So that’s that. There’s just no question about surface area contact. Crossed wrists give you more and more is better.
Here’s a little tutorial on tying crossed wrists damsels. The damsels left arm is crossed over the right one.
Here wrists are making an “X.” It’s basically a perfect X with 90 degree angles at every intersection. The foundation of the crossed wrist tie are the two outside rope loos which the rigger is applying now. He already has the first on at the bottom of the damsel’s left wrist. That loop then goes down under the right arm making a loop running perpendicular to that arm and then comes up on the outside of the fist of the left hand.
On the next picture, the rigger pulls the rope tightly around the left wrist and into the joint, nice and secure.
The rope loop will then continue down under the same wrist joint on the left wrist. The result is kind of like a cube or a box made of the rope loops. I wonder if this is where the term “box tie” comes from. Hmmmm……could be. Anyway, the wrists are secured because they fit like spoons into the curves of the opposing wrist and they’re locked there by the two rope loops, wrapped snuggly high up at the wrist joints and then down lower just below the intersection of the arms.
If that’s all of the rope work, theoretically, it would be enough. At least it would be if ropes didn’t stretch or fray or slip and if knots couldn’t tighten or loosen to adjust. But all of those things DO happen. So what the rigger has to do is stabilize those four rope loops (two on each wrist, but all formed from one continuous wrapping) by filling in the space between them with a layer of parallel wrappings of rope. Doing so correctly makes all of these layers of rope loop into almost one solid mass molded around the damsels crossed wrists.
This next picture kind of shows the space between the main outside loops filled in.
There are still some gaps (hint: there won’t be by the end). Also, some of the filler strands are diagonal. That’s not ideal. Diagonal and overlapping rope strands CAN shift and slide and create slack when a damsel struggles. Ideally, what you want are perfectly parallel strands of rope that run perpendicular to the arms from the base of the hand (the wrist joint) down just below the intersection of the damsel’s arms.
Once you’ve filled in your gaps, you tie it off with a knot out of reach of damsel digits. This picture shows that nicely (although it’s better to snip off some of the loose ends so she can’t use them to mess with your knots.
And then you want to “cinch” your solid mass of ropes by ties tight loops between the overlapping arms/hands/wrists and around the overlapping mass of ropes. Because the wrists are crossed and fitting neatly together, there isn’t much slack for your to “pinch” out using the cinch ropes. But there’ll still be some. By “pinching” the intersection of the ropes, you cause them to wrap tighter around the contours of the arms so that the one solid “oval” rope loop becomes more like a figure eight with each arm held tightly in it’s own circle.
Please take careful note of the angles of the arms in the last two pictures. In the second to last picture, the damsels elbows are wide, outside of her ribs. Her crossed wrists are about in the small of her back. The “X” formed by her wrists is made up of all 90 degree angles. Remember? OK. Now look at the last picture. The damsel has pulled her elbows in. Her wrists have slid down toward her butt. This is probably due to the hogtie tether to her ankles. This will also naturally happen when struggling. But see how the angles have change? Now the “X” has flattened and instead of four 90 degree angles we are looking at two 60 degree angles and two 120 degree angles. Interesting right?
Right!
Because here’s what that’s doing. Her arms are working like levers now trying to stretch those rope loops which were formed around a differently shaped “X”. And ropes have a little bit of stretch, but when tied and cinched nicely like these, it’s not as much stretch as is required for this shift in the angles of the arms. Since the ropes aren’t breaking (and neither are her arms), that’s only possible because the ropes are cutting deeper into her skin. In other words, the rigging feels tighter. This is what they mean when they say, “The more I struggled, the tighter the ropes felt.”
Was that an “ah-ha” moment? I hope that was an “ah-ha” moment. Lol.
So here’s the last picture.
We see a totally helpless, hogtied damsel, struggling her ass off but in a completely futile effort. I want to point out just how little rope is needed to pull this off. Crossed wrists and short hogtied tether and your damsel hasn’t got a prayer Y’all!
And that’s all I got for you. Like I said, short and sweet!
Now I’m going to go do something about my bondage dry spell. Have a great weekend everyone!!
