Seven years ago, the Tressendar house caught fire. The fire started from the basement, where five students were burned alive, leaving not even their bodies behind. Since then, not a soul has entered the abandoned home, not even the owners or family of the students to claim the remaining ashes of the students.
Not a soul has entered, and not a soul has left. The scorched home sits idly at the end of town, sleeping in a cradle of overgrown grass and ivy. “At least, that’s what the rumors say,” Stephanie declared as she and Emily made their way through the house.
“The house looks mostly intact… despite how creepy everything looks. Perfect for a Halloween party.” Emily noted the light webbing, dust, and ash that covered the untouched furniture.
The two friends have been exploring the home’s remains, starting from the second floor and leaving the kitchen for last. The kitchen was the only room other than the basement to sustain any damage. Dark scorch marks looked like claws pawing at the archway leaving out of the kitchen while the once gorgeous tiled floor had partly collapsed into the basement below. It was a sight to behold, knowing that just below were the undisturbed ashes of five young men. Each would have long since graduated from college were they still alive today.
The second floor was completely untouched, unlike the first floor, which showed signs of squatters; the dust of the second floor had been long undisturbed. The furniture remained as it was, and pictures that included their son were left behind.
The only son of the Tressendars was an overweight young man who dressed in only the most homely of fashion in each of the pictures, regardless of how well-dressed the rest of his family was. His dirty blonde hair looked as if it had never seen a barber with a nerdy shut-in look about him. Even in all the pictures, he would literally stand off from the rest of his family.
“The second floor is clear—no weird safety hazards or squatting bums. The water is still on, so that’s convenient. We’ll need to run the water to rinse the pipes, though.” Stephanie said, again speaking in her more signature declarative tone.
Despite her young, dumb blonde appearance, Stephanie has always been a responsible and brilliant young girl. She’s strong-willed and doesn’t give in to others easily, but few remain unaware of this side of her. Stephanie was more than aware of her appearance: her naturally bright blonde hair, violet eyes, voluptuous figure, and sensual mannerisms. When you combine that with her amazing fashion sense and air-head facade, none are any the wiser the moment she decides to flip the board in a game her targets weren’t even aware they were playing.
“I can’t believe how creepy this place is, even during the day,” Emily said with a shudder. Emily’s been friends with Stephanie for as long as either of them could remember. Emily is among the few people aware of her friend’s true personality.
“Once we’re done surveying the first floor, we’ll need to inspect the basement.”
“Mrrgrrgrr… Do we have to?” Emily said with a grumble.
Stephanie chuckled to herself. “You and your strange sounds. Fine, we can take a break,” she said as she guided Emily to a sofa. After laying a sheet over it, the two girls took a moment to rest their long, slender legs.
“We haven’t fallen through the floor yet, so do we really have to check the basement?”
Stephanie set a lantern on the table, preparing for the sun to go down soon. “Just because two tiny white girls didn’t fall through the floor doesn’t mean a Halloween mixer wouldn’t. And just think, it’ll be a great chance for you to get over Donnovin.”
“Ehh, you knew about that?”
Stephanie simply closed her eyes and gave a smug expression. “Maybe things would have worked out better if you didn’t always make those weird sounds.”
Emily pouted and puffed out her cheeks. “Mukapun….” was all she said… As for how she felt, there was one big reason Emily broke up with Donnovin.
As Stephanie relaxed with her eyes closed, Emily took her time soaking in her friend’s vivacious body with her lascivious feelings. Stephanie took a deep breath, making her triple-D breast even more pronounced from her thin waist. Even before realizing she was bi-sexual, she felt herself not only envious of Stephanie’s figure but an attraction. More than anything, she wanted to place her hands on those gorgeous and overwhelming flesh mounds.
She would use her other hand to grasp Stephanie’s round ass and pull her forward. Their model-length legs would intertwine, and their faces close enough that their lips would touch—
Stephanie opened an eye, giving Emily a side-piercing glance and a confident smile. It took all of Emily’s willpower to pull back from her thoughts and to keep her signs of attraction hidden. If it came down to it, Emily would just complement how good her friend looked in the tight-fitting clothes she wore. Her choice of keyhole sweater showed off so much cleavage, and the tight jeans hugged her hips in a way that made Emily envious of said clothing.
“It’s just not fair.” Emily thought to herself. Emily often felt jealous of the girls she had grown up with. Having a Japanese father and a Caucasian mother felt like something that always worked against her. She didn’t receive her father's exotic facial features or her mother’s well-endowed body. Rather, she looked like your typically white girl, if not on the younger side due to the height and youthfulness she inherited from her father. And while she has dyed her hair teal, she would still get questions about her exceptionally black hair that contrasted with her porcelain doll skin tone.
Trying to work with what she’s got, Emily had her teal-dyed hair pulled back into a ponytail, rather than her usual twintails, as they explored the home, and she wore a style that showed off her flawless white skin. Her sweater had exposed shoulders and cut off just below her chest, showing off her toned stomach, and the hem of her skirt stopped just shy of her thigh-high stockings.
“If I had an enviable body, would Stephanie like me the same way I like her?” It was something that Emily thought about a lot.
Stephanie leaned forward to pick up the lantern. Emily wondered if she was wearing something else if her boobs would spill out of her clothing. Oh, how she wished to see them.
“The sun will finish setting soon, so with or without you, I’m checking out the basement.” Emily’s thoughts were brought back to Earth, and she realized how dark the room was now that she wasn’t focused entirely on her best friend.
“W-wait! Don’t just decide for yourself!” Emily quickly pulled her phone from her bag, turning the flashlight on as Stephanie took the only other light source.
Like the rest of the house, the Kitchen was huge, much larger than the other homes leading up to the hilltop manor. If it wasn’t for the collapsed floor near the basement door and the scorch marks that covered the room, this kitchen would have all the tools to prepare a feast.
“How are we supposed to get down there?” Emily inquired as she shined her light along the destroyed staircase that, at one point, hugged the far wall. Even if they were to hop across the floor to the head of the staircase, it would likely give under even Emily’s weight.
“You underestimate me,” Stephanie said in a rather proud tone. Throwing off her backpack, she pulled out the parts to a hook ladder and began assembling it.
“Why do you have a ladder?”
“For some reason, my older brother had all this spelunking gear, and I decided to commandeer it for ourselves. Urban spelunking is still spelunking, after all.”
Emily sighed. From the outside, the house hadn't appeared to shift, and there were no signs of wood rot. “I still maintain that you couldn’t have known we would have needed it, so stop acting so smug all the time,” Stephanie had finished assembling the ladder and was already on the basement floor before Emily could finish her retort. “Ah, hey! Stop trying to leave me behind!”
By the time Emily finished climbing down the ladder, Stephanie was already holding up the lantern against a large support beam. Emily shined her flashlight around the room, surveying for any obstacles she might need to avoid as she approached Stephanie.
The large room was completely blackened with charcoal and ash. Most of the ash was clumped in the center of the room, where the five young men supposably remain. Everything in the center of the room, moving out in a sphere, had been completely burned away, leaving the wooden remains of chairs and bookshelves scattered against the walls.
No one knew how the fire started, and it’s a mystery how it became so strong that it managed to incinerate bone while leaving most of the manor intact. Most people say it’s because the fire department was so quick to act. But even still, Emily couldn’t help but feel a mixture of melancholy and horror.
After a while, Stephanie finished inspecting the support beams in what must have been a recreation room, given the books and DVD cases on the shelves. Further down, there was still more basement to explore—a hallway connected a bedroom, equipped with a bathroom and walk-in closet, a storage closet, and a laundry room to the rest of the basement.
The laundry room still has clothes scattered here and there. They must have been in mid-wash when the fire broke out. A load of laundry was left behind to collect after never drying.
The storage room was filled with more books and other recreation items. Mostly vintage toys, assembly sets, and miniatures. Neither Emily nor Stephanie played Tabletop games, but they’d heard of Dungeons and Dragons at the very least, and many of the cubbies were filled with dice and maps. While the collection may have been awe-inspiring at one point, all that was left was a shadow of someone's hobby—collecting dust and cobwebs like the rest of the house.
The guest bedroom was impressively large and well furnished—or, it would be impressive if it didn’t feel like a monster or zombie would shamble out of the bathroom at any moment. Emily could help but be gripped with fear as she eyed the door to the bathroom, left conspicuously ajar.
The bed had a light ash coating mixed with years of dust. A large TV was mounted across from the bed. A TV like this wasn’t so impressive today, but it must have been exceptionally expensive back when the Tressendars purchased it.
“Do you think this place might actually be haunted?” Stephanie suddenly said, sending a chill down Emily’s spine. Stephanie then slowly turned the brightness on the lantern down until it was almost off.
“W-why would you suddenly say something like that? And turn the light back on!” The distress could be heard in Emily’s voice, and it took a moment for her to understand why Stephanie said that, but she eventually noticed what her friend was looking at.
The TV was on. It was hard to notice, but the red power dot was on. And now that Stephanie had dimmed the lantern, Emily could see that the TV screen was on. It was just a black screen, and it looked like the brightness had been turned down, and the backlight was turned off, but it was on.
“I thought the power was out since the security system didn’t go off and none of the lights worked… but over seven years, no one had tried looking this place? I know we’re on the rich side of town, but it wouldn’t be much of a trip to take things like this TV.” Just as Stephanie finished speaking, the light in her lantern went out.
At the sudden blackout, Emily dropped to the floor, closing her eyes and holding in a scream. Her phone fell from her hands and landed face-up on the floor, blocking the light. The girls were left in near complete darkness, with only the light fade of the TV outlining whatever was in the room.
“Ugh, this is what happens when my brother doesn’t bother taking care of his things.” The lantern was old, and her brother had likely left it attached to the charger in the garage for the last couple of years. With a sigh, she pulled out her phone and turned the flashlight on. Emily was still kneeling with her face buried in her knees and her hands over her ears. “Come on, Emily. Grab your phone, and let's get out of here.”
Emily slowly stood and nervously made her way to Stephanie. All she did was nod and cling to the arm of her friend as they returned to the scorched room.
As the two returned to the ladder, Stephanie noticed a strange outline in the pile of ash. It wasn’t something she noticed before on her way in. She was more interested in the structural damage than anything else. Upon closer inspection, Stephanie could make out the outline of what looked like a body—clumps of ash shaped in the outline of arms, legs, and torso. It was a human. That distinct pile of ash was what remained of one of the five boys who died here.
“Wow,” Stephanie took a moment to catch her breath. “I didn’t notice that on the way in. Did you?”
“I don’t wanna open my eyes. Please, let’s just leave already.”
Stephanie looked down at the small girl clinging to her arm and sighed. “We would be able to get out faster if you would walk on your own.” Stephanie hoped this would encourage Emily to let go and hurry her way out, but it only prompted her to squeeze tighter. Stephanie rolled her eyes and slowly crossed the ash-covered floor with Emily in tow.
As they were halfway across the room, a cold chill filled the air, and a light breeze caused the ash to stir. The ash that had remained undisturbed for years had started to move.
Stephanie was starting to feel her own legs tense in fear. “It must be a draft. The window at the end of the hall is probably open, and Emily’s paranoia is just getting to me.” Stephanie told herself that, but as she tried to turn and look, it took all her willpower to overcome her fear.
The tiny window at the end of the hallway was closed shut. The only thing that made its way in was a sliver of moonlight.
“Why did you stop?” Emily whimpered.
“Sorry, I just… thought there was something.”
“Stop trying to scare me!” Emily pulled Stephanie to take another step forward.
“Sorry, you’re right. Let’s just focus—” Stephanie tried to take another step, but something tugged against her ankle. She shined her light down to see what it was and noticed a dark gray handprint gripping her. As the realization began to sink in, so did the blood from her face as she felt cold.
“Emily, we need to get out of here?”
“W-what?! Stop trying to scare me!” Emily screamed.
Another handprint appeared, then another as it climbed its way up Stephanie’s leg.
“Emily, RUN!!”
Stephanie threw Emily toward the ladder, and just as Stephanie did, ash formed in a whirlwind around her, encasing and trapping her. As more ash was kicked up, Stephanie was raised into the air. The cindered bodies reached out from the ash pressed against her as smoke filled her lungs.
Then, just as suddenly as it started, Stephanie collapsed face down on the floor.
Emily picked herself off the ground, trying to regain her bearings. As the darkness pulled away from her sight, she could finally see her friend motionless.
“Steph!” Emily cried out.
Finding the ability to move again, Emily hurried to her friend’s side. Ash covered Stephanie’s body as if someone had wiped their soot-covered hands all across her body. Emily rolled her onto her back, and tears began to roll down Emily’s cheeks. The only light illuminating them was the light from Stephanie’s phone that landed face down with her.
“Come on, Steph, please be okay.”
Stephanie slowly opened her eyes before sitting up. She wiped the dirt from her eyes and looked down at her hands. She slowly moved her fingers, gripping them back and forth.
“Oh, thank God, Steph. You’re okay.” Emily hugged her friend and helped her stand. “We need to get out of here before anything else happens.”
Stephanie stared blankly at Emily before looking down at herself. Emily picked up Stephanie’s phone and was eager to leave, but Stephanie didn’t seem to share that eagerness. Instead, she studied the room much like Emily did when she first entered the basement.
When Emily noticed that her friend wasn’t following her, she turned around to see Stephanie with her hands on her chest, cupping her voluptuous breasts. With a thoughtful face, she gently squeezed and massaged them. As Emily watched, Stephanie’s face slowly changed from thoughtful to pleasureful.
Stephanie ran her hands across her body, examining every curve as if exploring her body for the first time. Confusion and lust ran through Emily’s mind, and she wasn’t sure what to do. She wanted to leave as soon as she could, but she couldn’t help but watch as the object of her wettest dreams touched herself in front of her.
Eventually, Stephanie noticed the soot and ash on her hands and whipped them on her against her perfectly shaped butt. That’s when she finally took notice of Emily. She took a moment to study her, looking her up and down as her lips curled into a smile.
“This body is sexy in all the right places, but cute girls like you are exactly my type.” Emily’s heart skipped a beat as the voice of her most precious person called her cute.
Stephanie sauntered up to Emily, swaying her hips as she did. Stephanie has always been taller than Emily, but right now, it felt as if the Germanic beauty towered over the half-Japanese girl. Emily’s eyes locked with Stephanie's, and she could feel herself drowning in the deep, endless blue. Stephanie held Emily steady as she placed a hand on her face.
That was when Emily noticed something different in her friend. Past the lust and hunger in Stephanie’s eyes, Emily could see the faint hint of hesitation. Emily had spent her entire life watching her best friend, and the hand against her face had the slightest tremble. It was like she was being bold and timid at the same time.
Emily could see the mixture of emotions, but she wanted this. She wanted to feel the love and passion of her most important person more than anything else in the world. Putting her surroundings out of her mind, Emily leaned forward and placed her lips against Stephanie’s.
The kiss felt inexperienced. Stephanie was always so confident in everything she did that it surprised Emily that he friend would feel this inexperienced, but she didn’t hate it. She always felt like she wasn’t good enough, but now, in this moment, Emily was making out with the one person she wanted to more than anyone else in the world.
It could be seen in Stephanie's eyes that Emily’s sudden forwardness took her aback. She wasn’t expecting Emily to suddenly be so forward or so receptive. Now, their tongues dance with one another, and it took everything Stephanie had to keep up and not lose breath. But Emily didn’t stop, and soon Stephanie’s body was caught in Emily’s embrace, and her arms wrapped around her. As Emily’s hands ran down Stephanie’s back, she let out a small moan that only grew louder as Emily’s squeezed her friend’s ass.
Breaking away from what felt like an eternity of bliss, the two girls finally stopped to catch their breath.
Emily could hear her heart trying to escape from her chest, and both girls could only avert their gaze from one another as the reality of what they just did sank in.
It felt too much like a dream to Emily—a dream she didn’t want to wake up from. Not once had Stephanie ever shown interest in girls, but now… “If I had known, I would have done that years ago,” Emily whispered.
Stephanie made a warm smile as she placed an arm around her friend. “We should get out of here. We have a Halloween party to plan, after all.”
“Oh, uh… yeah.” Emily could feel anxiety grip her. “What if that was a one-time thing? What if I wake up tomorrow and none of that really happened?” she thought.
As she opened her mouth to speak again, Stephanie placed a finger on Emily’s lips. “Then maybe we can pick up where we left off at the party.”
“Y-yeah.” Emily's face turned a bright shade of red as Stephanie guided her up the ladder and sent her up first.
As Emily focused on climbing, Stephanie looked back over the room one last time. With a quiet breath, she whispered into the room. “Don’t worry guys. You’ll have your turn next.”
