Ten-year-old Emily had always felt lonely. Her days were filled with silent wishes and dreams of having a little sister to share her life with. Living with her abusive father was a nightmare that Emily endured in silence, clutching her stuffed bear tightly every night and wishing for a miracle.

One night, after another painful encounter with her father, Emily stood by her window, gazing at the stars. She closed her eyes tightly and whispered, "I wish I had a little sister, someone to love and protect, someone who would be my friend."

As she opened her eyes, a shooting star streaked across the sky. Emily felt a strange sense of hope and went to bed, clutching her bear even tighter, praying for her wish to come true.

The next morning, Emily woke up to an unfamiliar sound. It was the sound of giggling, light and carefree, echoing from the living room. She rubbed her eyes, wondering if she was still dreaming. Slowly, she got out of bed and tiptoed towards the source of the laughter.

There, in the middle of the living room, stood a little girl, no older than five, with curly brown hair and bright blue eyes. She wore one of Emily’s old dresses and was playing with a set of building blocks. Emily’s heart skipped a beat as she stared at the girl, who looked up and smiled.

"Hi! I'm Lily," the little girl said cheerfully. "What's your name?"

Emily felt a wave of emotion crash over her. "I'm Emily," she replied, her voice trembling. "Where... where did you come from?"

Lily tilted her head and thought for a moment. "I don't know," she said with a shrug. "But I’m here now!"

Emily couldn’t believe her eyes. Her wish had come true. She had a little sister. She ran to Lily and hugged her tightly, feeling a warmth she had never felt before. The little girl giggled and hugged her back.

As the days went by, Emily and Lily became inseparable. They played together, shared secrets, and Emily finally felt the happiness she had always longed for. The strange thing was, her father was nowhere to be found. It was as if he had vanished from their lives entirely, leaving Emily and Lily to create a new life together.

One evening, Emily sat with Lily on her bed, reading a bedtime story. Lily looked up at her with wide eyes and asked, "Emily, where did I come from?"

Emily paused, thinking of how to answer. "You came from the stars," she said softly. "I wished for a little sister, and the stars sent you to me."

Lily smiled, satisfied with the answer. "I’m glad they did," she said, hugging Emily tightly. "I love you, Emily."

Tears filled Emily’s eyes as she hugged Lily back. "I love you too, Lily. Always."

Years passed, and the memory of their father faded into the background, replaced by the joy and love that Emily and Lily shared. Emily never found out how her wish had come true or where Lily had really come from, but she didn't need to. She had her sister, and that was all that mattered.

Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and dreams, knowing that sometimes, wishes do come true in the most unexpected ways.
