“Well, its hardly enough, but compared to the three divisions, it will boost our defensive capabilities immensely. Look, Lady Ryan, when finished, the programme will give us a total of 6 army corps a 3 divisions, all with artillery brigades attached. That should give the Arranza pause.”
“Georgina is an advocatress of firepower. She fought long and hard for these artillery brigades.”
Jill nodded and asked:
“I take it you intend to use these 18 divisions as a skeleton to build further strength in the future?”
Jennifer Eisenhower helped herself to some more wine and elaborated further:
“Sure, they might be sufficient to scare of the Mexicans, but wont be enough for, ah.. matters elsewhere.”
“What about an armoured component? The Germans are putting out tanks like mad.”
“Too expensive yet. Georgina Patton would love to change the 1st Cav from horses to tanks, but its not seen as a priority. We really would like to have armoured formations, mainly for tests and training, but the programme doesnt allow for that.”
Lady Marshall explained:
“There is the Army Air Corps. Someone brought up the idea about the Mexicans bombarding Texas Oils precious facilities, so a fighter component is deemed more important than tanks at present. The programme calls for 2 fighter corps to 4 groups each. 800 fighters total, more than we need, if you ask me.”
“What apparently no one did.”
“Asking me? No, Lady Ryan. We put forth several proposals, but the administration didnt really listen. There are funds for more escort flotillas and convoys too. I have to grant them that it will come in handy in the future.”
“I am interested what you think will be necessary in case the fascists must be stopped by us.”
Eisenhower and Marshall changed a look. The blonde Eisenhower gave Jill Ryan a crooked smile.
“We arent sure if its legal to work with you. You represent the opposition, and the Roosevelt administration might not be happy about it.”
“Dont fear, its legal as long as its official. As of yesterday, congesswoman Lady Melville is part of the Defence Committee of congress, and I am her special assistant. The opposition has a right to be informed. We are in a democracy, remember?”
Marshall grinned:
“”I am not always sure if this is good or bad. Anyway, do you tell us the Republicans want to intervene in Europe and Asia if they win the 40 elections?”
“We are simply evaluating all possibilities. If things worsen out there, the US should be prepared.”
It was Eisenhowers turn again:
“If we intervene, and want to do it right, we will need a real big army and air force, and even the navy wont be sufficient.”
“That much I have already gathered on my own.”
“Okay, Lady Ryan, heres what we think...”
Barter Town, New Mexico, USA, April 22nd, 1939, 14.09 hours
It had been two months full of heat, dust and flies. Maria Cipoletti had hated every minute of it, but it had been worth the effort. After several successful operations, the smugleresses had taken a severe beating. Todays load of Mexican and American criminals had probably been the last. Amy had told Maria yesterday that they would go back to Atlanta soon. Thank the goddess.
The days mission had been childsplay, with no one injured and as a result 14 smugleresses all well packaged on the floor. While the Deltas waited for the ordinary state police to show up, Maria settled down near the wall and took out her book.
Her main goal still was revenge, the Skorzena bitch would be dealt with sooner or later. Being able to tie the German blonde up and get eventually free from a new bind herself was one thing, but how to overpower her? There might be no weapon available. So, she had started to consume every book on unarmed combat she could find, feeling the delta training in this respect hardly sufficient. It was difficult to find good books on the subject, especially in English.
While the small, slender Cipoletti was busy reading, Amy Wilder checked the prisoners again. All 14 ladies were handcuffed and tape gagged and would remain so, some struggling none withstanding. Satisfied, Amy strolled over to Maria, hungry again by the looks of her.
Maria looked up from her book and smiled.
“Will we go home now?”
“You can hardly wait, right? Well, I think this was the last group to be taken care of. Uh... still reading these bad translations of Chinese books?”
“Do you have something better?”
“Well, I thought your Chinese teacher might be into unarmed combat too.”
“J-A-P-A-N-E-S-E, Amy, Japanese, how often did I...”
“Whatever. Why not ask her?”
“Uh, I must admit, I hadnt thought of that.”
“Obviously. Well, go ahead, maybe she is a mistress of this art too?”
“Dont think so. Shes so small and...”
“Like you? I always thought thats beside the point in this respect.”
“Okay, you are right. I really should ask her.”
“By now, you should be a mistress in tying and untying.”
“Every time I master a bondage, my sensei comes up with another one sure to be beyond my capabilities.”
“Anyway, the Skorzena will be in for a bad surprise, if you ever meet her again that is.”
“I will, Amy, I will...”
“In San Francisco last week, famous aviatrix CHARLINE LINDBERGH announced shes engaged with American-Indian actress KATHRIN KASKAS, star of THINGS TO COME. The LINDBERGH, divorced only a few months ago, told us she is very happy and fallen in love with beautiful KATHRIN. LADY KASKAS spokeswoman confirmed the announcement the same day. The move came as no surprise, as both ladies have already been seen together on several occasions...”

“So, they really have approved the plan in full.”
“Yes, Arlene, time to cheer up. This will boost our ability to gather information in the fascist countries considerably.”
“And not too soon, as things are heating up, especially in Europe. The Germans going for Poland now.”
“As the Allies have welcomed the Polas with open arms, this means war. Do you think they will really go this far?”
“Dont know for sure. They are hardly ready. But Lady Hitler seems very restless to me. Too bad Jill isnt around any longer. She was so good at reading their minds.”
“Did you hear shes heading the Republicans new foreign policy team for the election next year?”
“Yes, I wonder if she... no, that cant be.”
“What do you mean?”
“The Republicans are in need of a fresh candidatress to counter Lady Roosevelt.”
“You cant be serious. Jills too young and no politician. They will surely go for someone more versed in politics and of higher rank.”
“Youre probably right. Back to business. If I read the figures right, we will be able to send quite a few field agents to Germany, Italy and even Japan.”
“We should celebrate this in the cafeteria with Sauerkraut, Pasta and Sushi.”
“If you order this down there, youll be shot immediately by the staff.”
“For treason?”
“No, for bad taste.”
“I see.”, Marcy grinned.
Villa of Lady Lenglen, near Paris, France, May 13th, 1939, 18.24 hours
Josefine Lenglen always said her mother died at Verdun. That was true. But, as her parents had been a lesbian couple, her male begetter not counting, there was still her other mother. An actress in her time, she showed Josefine how to be lofty and difficult, if surely not teaching her determination and a strong will.
Madeline Platini liked to dance, to drink and to change her lovers like her clothes. After Josefines biological mothers death, she had married again, a rich industrialistess with tons of money. Her daughter had hated the new environment, though it brought tennis to her, or Josefine to tennis. Nowadays “the Divine” limited her contact with Madeline to writing out the monthly cheque, as the Platini was divorced now and currently living of her daughters fame and money.
On some occasions, like her real mothers death day, a personal contact was unavoidable. And so Josefine sipped wine and pretended to listen to Madelines words, which were numerous.
“You should really put more flowers in here, that would lighten up the mood. Dont you ever read ELLE DECORATION? By the goddess, Josefine, what if pictures were taken from your home and... no flowers? By the way, flowers... Did you hear, the FLOWER did it again last week. An actress, do you believe, robed in her home, left behind bound and gagged and adorned with a flower. This lady sure is crazy. On the other hand, what a thrilling experience this must have been, all trussed up and gagged the whole night...”
Josefine thought of the upcoming French Open and her adversaries there. Madelines words rushed by like the cheers of the crowds in court. After Paris, Wimbledon was next. She was determined to win a third time in a row, which no lady ever did before.
Suddenly, Josefine asked herself why. Was it a lust for fame? The challenge? Was it worth all the effort? She should go back to active duty in the army, preparing for the war she was sure would come, instead of collecting worthless fame and trophies and money.
“Josefine? Mon cher, where are you with your thoughts? I asked you about your sex life and you seem light years away?”
Josefines eyes blazed, annoyed as much by Madeline as by her own doubts, and she growled:
“My sex life isnt your business, Madeline.”
“Why are you always so angry about this? I tell you, some nice action in the sheets would do wonders to your mood...”
Diary of Generaloberst Luise Beck, Chief OKW
May 25th, 1939
At long last, our 12 new armoured divisions are operational. This gives us the fist which is essential for our new operational concept. Add to this the considerable strengthening of the LUFTWAFFE, I no longer doubt our ability to smash the Polas. Fall Weiss (Case White) is ready for implementation as soon as the Fuehra wishes. Only problem is the alliance the Polas now have with the West. We are hardly ready to wage a long war against France and England. Our navy is pathetic, and if our army is able to fend of the French in the West while we deal with Poland is in doubt. The Fuehra says the Frankas lack the will to fight, they are defaitist to the bone. Is she right? Can we gamble with the Reichs future? I am not sleeping well as of late. The responsibility... I pray to the mothergoddess the party denies that the Reich will last through the coming storm we ourselves will inflict upon it.
Labratory of Albernia Einstein, Princeton, USA, June 4th, 1939, 11.08 hours
“So you want to leave our work, now, as we are making real progress. Jane, you really shouldnt listen to this bomb-nonsense. I think its possible, but its ghastly beyond comparison. Destroying an entire city, all people in it – thats a crime before the goddess.”
“I know that, Albernia, but what if the faschas develop it? They would surely have no second thoughts about using it. Do you want them to blackmail the world into submission with it? We cant have that. We must counter them. So, we must have the bomb first. If its possible at all that is.”
“Oh, its possible, trust me. And what about the transmitter?”
“Uh, Albernia, you can surely do without me here. Besides, its better if Noodles gets away from your lab. You feed him too much when I look in the other direction.”
“What? He likes it. Noodles will be very sad if he must leave, I am sure.”
“Is it my dog or yours?”
“So, is it about the bombs and the fascists or are you jealous about the affection Noodles has developed for me?”
“For you or the ingredients of your refrigerator?”
“Jane, stay here. I promise I wont feed extras to Noodles anymore.”
“No, Albernia. Poor Noodles is not the reason. I am determined. I will develop the bomb.”
“I hope you never regret this.”
Noodles, watching the two ladies, barked once.
“There you have it, Noodles wants to stay.”
“Its my dog, I know better what his barking means.”
“If you go, let Noodles stay here. He inspires me.”
“Never, Albernia...”
Bribblethorpe Manor, West of London, United Queendom, June 9th, 1939, 20.15 hours
“Hello, hello, may I introduce you?”
“We have already met. More than once. Well, Eve, still robbing through the dirt, abducting the Queens officers? Quite a show you pulled off there in Scotland last year. Took me a while to get over being bound and gagged and being dragged through the dirt.”
Berenike Montgomery smiled amiably. Eve Lois Mountbatten wasnt deceived for a second. The Montgomery hadnt forgotten this adventure, she never had been known as a good sport.
“I am glad you are fair about it, Berenike. Believe me, I dont appreciate my assignment. Though, you must grant us that it has merit after all. The IRA business was a great success.”
“Too bad this German spy eluded your grasp. I hope in case of war with the Superfrauen you will be more successful in taping them up. I still believe to put a bullet between their eyes instead of this comicstrip adventures, but...”
“Why not try different approaches. You killing them, I abducting them, the sooner it will be over.”
“Be serious, Eve Lois. We can hardly hope to beat them soon. The French are worthless nowadays, and our own army, well, you know for yourself.”
“Well, but... ah, did you ever meet my husband, Berenike?”
“No, hello. Eve Lois must be very lucky to get such a fine squire as you.”
“Ehm... sure, Lady Montgomery. I gather you two are talking girls stuff? War, tanks, guns and the like?”
“I am afraid, yes, dear.”
Berenike Montgomery smiled inwardly at that. The Mounbatten didnt know the least about her affair with Mr. Montgomery. Revenge was a dish served cold at best...
SET training camp X -3, Trier, Southwestern Germany, June 15th, 1939, 11.51 hours
“Name?”
“Beate Brunner, Frau Oberst.”
“Your tests are quite extraordinary, Frau Brunner. Its time you show your abilities in the field. Interested in a little operation?”
“It would be an honour to serve under you, Frau Oberst.”
“Good. Get ready for departure tomorrow. There will be an intense training phase. I take it you and Anke Stein are roommates?”
“Yes, Frau Oberst.”
“She will accompany you. I am sure you will work well together. Ah, one more thing. This little story in Miami back then, on the STOLZ VON BRESLAU. Write me a report on the performance of the American Delta Force. Everything you remember.”
“Yes, Frau Oberst.”
“Dismissed.”
The SET recruit left. Skorzena rose and headed for the window. The great game was about to start. War. A small operation in Poland. Well, not exactly IN Poland. A minor thing, but more was to come. The Reich would fight for supremacy in the world. Skorzena wasnt sure if Germany would prevail, but that was beside the point, wasnt it? No risk, no fun.
