Jon turned the key and opened the door, stepped inside and closed it  behind him.  A noise startled him and he turned to face the living room.

“What are you doing here?” He asked

“Craig’s office called me, they said you had been injured on duty” the woman said

Jon looked suspiciously at her and then remembered he still had her  listed as a contact in case of an emergency.   Dr. Jackson’s nurse must  have called her after what happened last night.

“She said you may need some help, were you shot?” she asked

“Look…Jen I don’t think this is such a good idea right now, and I’m fine.”

Jon stared at his ex wife.  Time was certainly being kind to her as she  seems more beautiful with each passing year.  She still had not  remarried since their divorce but he admired her independence and  truthfully doubted that she would ever remarry.

“You look…different… have you lost weight?” she asked

“You could say that, I…uh…it’s a little complicated.” He stammered

“Here, let me take that..” she said as she started walking toward him, reaching out for the small suitcase he was holding.

She stopped as she got within a few feet of him and with a confused look  on her face asked again “Are you sure you haven’t lost weight, you  seem…different”

She was right, now that he had Joy’s shorter legs, he now looked damn  near eye to eye to his ex wife.  Out of reflex he stood up on his  tiptoes but could not hold the position for long as Joy’s calf muscles  were not accustom to supporting the extra weight of his upper torso.

Jennifer noticed Jon seemed nervous and bounced up and down on his  tiptoes.

Surely something was wrong, his normal confidence was not  showing in his voice.  She looked down and again was confused at how the  blue sweat pants he was wearing bunched up at the feet, nearly covering  them.  The tee shirt he was wearing hung low and snug at the hips,  which seemed wider and lower than normal.

“So who is she?” she asked

“Who?” Jon said

“Your girlfriend, it’s obvious you’ve just been with another woman”

“What do you mean” Jon asked annoyed

“Come on Jonny, a woman knows.   I can still smell her on you.”

A lump formed in Jon’s throat. “God” he thought as he remembered what  Dr. Jackson had told him about Joy’s injuries and the fluids draining  from her vagina.

“Jen, it’s not what you think...we were attacked last night..and…”

“You don’t have to justify anything to me, we’re divorced now, I’m a big  girl and it’s only fair that you have moved on…but for God’s sake Jon  clean yourself off.  You reek.”

She was clearly jealous and knowing that, made Jon feel good in  different sense.  This proved she still had feelings for him, but for  now, he had to clear up this misunderstanding, no matter how  embarrassing it is.

“Jen, come and sit…we need to talk.” He said and guided her over to the couch.

He sat and winced in discomfort as tender flesh was pulled.  He sniffed  and, she was right.  He could smell the obvious musky odor of female sex  and his stomach rolled as he realized the smell was coming from him.   Jon glanced over at the suitcase the nurse had sent him home with.  In  it were the necessities, his prescriptions, some clean underwear,  uniform bottoms that were the correct size, some socks and a box of  napkins she said to change at least twice daily until the discharge  stopped.  He felt humiliated now to know that there was no way the  nurse, nor his long time friend Dr. Craig Jackson had not smelled the  odor but they were too polite to say anything, he just didn’t pick up on  their subtle hints.  Shit, how could he?  For the first time he started  to feel very angry.

“This is going to be hard to believe…” he started
