Simple instructions to work around the, apparently, broken DA "Free Download" option.<br /><br />If you need these instructions as:<br />MS-Word 2003 .doc: <a href="https://sta.sh/018u4xh5lzk0">sta.sh/018u4xh5lzk0</a><br />OpenOffice .odt: <a href="https://sta.sh/04vlacwf5d8">sta.sh/04vlacwf5d8</a> (For some reason in zip form, don't ask me, ask DA!)<br /><br />----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<br /><br />How to save a PDF document from Deviant Art, or most other sites, when the save button doesn&#8217;t appear.<br /><br />Step one go to a site you want to save, I am using MyPal browser because I am stuck with Windows XP SP3, but Firefox, or Chrome should work essentially the same or very similar.<br /><br />On MyPal browser, when I hover over the PDF document, I get a small popup dialog at the top hat has several options, Save, Print, Zoom In, Zoom Out. The save option is represented by a little icon of a 3.5&#8221; floppy disk.<br /><br />I should mention that I can&#8217;t try Chrome as it will no longer run on my version of windows, however, I am running FireFox 52.9.0 (The last one for XP) and it does look slightly different, on F.F., when I hover over the document, I get a bar at the top with the options, but the icons are comepletely different. Well, not print, but to download on F.F. I have to hover then click the little down arrow on the top, at the right end of the bar, otherwise it works the same.<br /><br />Once you click on the disk icon, you should get a windows save dialog. <br /><br />Choose where you want to save the file, I usually recommend the desktop, then give the file a meaningful name.<br /><br />You may have noticed that, by default, the filename is some insanely long, seemingly random, string of characters followed by &#8220;.pdf.&#8221;<br /><br />You will want to change the filename to something that means something to you, but be sure to keep the .pdf at the end, as that is what tells windows what program to use to open the file, in this case Adobe Acrobat, or Acrobat Reader.<br /><br />Once you hit save, the file will be saved wherever you specified.<br /><br />Finally open the file with Adobe Acrobat, or the Acrobat Reader and enjoy.<br /><br />I will admit that I don&#8217;t know if you can edit the file, but I am pretty sure you can copy and paste, if so needed. Personally I don&#8217;t add any kind of security to my works, but who knows what Adobe does!<br /><br />Anyway, I hope this helps those of you who want to save PDF documents from Deviant Arts, I wish that it were easier, and it used to be. But ever since they updated their site, even though I click the &#8220;Free to Download&#8221; button, it never sticks. I wish that they would make that the default setting, giving the author the option of un-checking it, should they wish. But alas, this is not the way DA works, or more accurately, this is the way DA doesn&#8217;t work!<br /><br />Take care and stay safe, Jane.
