The Inventor’s Wife’s New Situation
By JMD
“Whoa!” Hazel shouted, as she suddenly found herself human again. Dizzily, she sat back on the bed, holding a hand to her head. “What the hell?”
She looked up, taking in the people in the bedroom with her. Her husband Doug was standing next to her by the bed. Her sister Rhiannon stood in the middle of the room, with Doug’s sister Marie behind her. Behind Marie stood the tall woman in a bathrobe she had seen earlier. Taking a closer look, she could see the resemblance to her brother-in-law Michael, so she figured Marie had used the Linge-Ray on him like she had done to Doug. And in the corner…
“Son of a bitch,” she shouted, coming up off the bed at the sight of the naked brunette standing there. Raising her hands, she called up her witchcraft. “What does it take to…”
“NO!”
The shout had come from everyone in the room except the brunette. Hazel dropped her developing spell and looked from one member of her family to the other slowly. "Alright," Hazel said. "Someone better get to telling me what the fuck is going on here. Like now."
Doug and his sister shared a look, but before either one of them could say anything, Rhiannon spoke up. "How much do you remember after you returned Little-Miss-Silky-Drawers here to her natural form?"
"Remember?" her sister repeated. "What was there to remember? It was only..." She stopped as she realized something. "Wait. I think..." She stopped to think some more before looking up at her sister. "I think I was a frog."
Rhiannon smiled. "Oh, Sweetie," she said with an amused tone, "you were so much more than that."
Hazel looked confused. "I was?"
Her sister counted off on her fingers. "A potted plant. A lawn gnome. An alarm clock. A pair of sunglasses." She stopped to think. "What else?"
"A shot glass," Marie pointed out.
"Right," the young witch confirmed with a snap of her fingers. "An inflatable doll. Oh, and a killer set of stiletto heels. Almost left you that way." Her sister cocked an eye at her. "What? I'm going dancing later."
Hazel shook her head, trying to clear it. "What are you saying? That you turned me into all of those things?"
"No, Sis. I turned HER into all those things," her sister corrected, pointing to the naked brunette cowering in the corner. "YOU? Well, you just went along for the ride."
"What does that mean?"
"That means you better stop trying to turn her back into your underwear. Not unless you want to share your drawer with her. Because, Sister Dear, whatever she is, you are, too."
Hazel looked to her husband for confirmation. She deflated a bit as he nodded his reply. "But... Why?"
"We're not sure," he admitted. "But it seems to be connected to trying to use this to break your spell on her." He held up the Restorer for her to see. "Rhea thinks it might be something to do with mixing witchcraft with science."
"Really?"
"It's as good an explanation as any," her sister reasoned. "But to be fair, I have no idea what's going on here. But that's not the only thing you need to know."
"There's more?" Hazel sighed. "Of course, there's more. What?"
"For starters, it's one sided."
"Meaning?"
Marie took that one. "Simple. Changing her changes you, but changing you doesn't change her."
"WHAT?"
"Afraid so," Doug confirmed. "We tried it."
Hazel considered that. “The frog?”
“The frog,” her sister confirmed.
"But... THAT'S NOT FAIR!!!"
"Fair or not," Rhiannon told her, "it's the way it is. Besides, that’s not your biggest problem."
Something in her tone told Hazel to take her seriously. “So,” she asked, “what is?”
“Think about it,” her sister explained. “You remember being a frog. What about the heels? The gnome?”
Hazel thought. “No. Nothing. And that’s weird. I’ve been turned into stuff before and knew all about it.” She turned to Doug. “Hell, I was aware the whole time you were wearing me as your panties the other day.”
“Panties?” Rhiannon questioned.
Marie leaned up to whisper to her. “Trust me. It’s easier if you just accept it and move on.”
Before she could ask, Hazel cut her off. “So, why can’t I remember being all those other things?”
“Because YOU weren’t there,” her sister stated flatly.
“Weren’t…” Hazel shook her head. “What does that mean?”
“It MEANS that whenever whatever happens to you when this craziness happens, it leaves you as just whatever it is you’ve become. No Hazel to be found.”
Hazel stared back at her for a second. “So, if I’m not THERE, where am I?”
“If I had to guess?”
“Sure. Why not?”
“You don’t exist anymore.”
Hazel’s eyebrows shot up. “Don’t exist.”
“As I said, it’s as good an explanation as any.”
“Well, that’s not good enough,” her sister insisted. “Fix it.”
“Sure,” Rhiannon nodded. “How? Because I’ve got no clue how to do it. Anyone else?” She looked around the room, but got no replies. “See.”
"But... but... but..." Desperate, Hazel turned to her husband. "There must be something you can do. What about the Linge-Ray? Couldn't that turn her back without..." She stopped at Doug's head shake. "You tried it?"
"We did."
Marie cut in. "To be fair," she pointed out, nodding to the former panties, "we tried it on her. We didn't see if it worked one way like mag... uh, witchcraft does. Let's clear that up." She pointed the Linge-Ray at her sister-in-law.
"Now, wait a fuh..." Hazel didn't finish before Marie had fired the device at her. She stared down at the spot on her chest that began to glow. She looked back up. "Oh, you..." Again, she failed to finish her comment, as she disappeared with a pop of displaced air. A second later, a black satin camisole appeared in her place, dropping limply to the floor.
Everyone turned to watch the brunette. The woman cringed a bit, waiting for whatever was coming. After a few seconds, it became clear that nothing was going to happen. With a look of relief, the woman shrugged.
Doug turned to Marie. "Really, Sis?"
"What?” his sister smiled. “Just trying to lighten the mood.” When he didn’t return her smile, she cleared her throat. "Well, we had to find out, didn't we?"
Her brother didn't answer that. "Just change her back."
Marie stuck her tongue out at him, but made the adjustments to the device. Pointing it at the camisole, she pressed the button.
A few seconds later, Hazel was back. "Give me that," she shouted, snatching the Linge-Ray away from her sister-in-law, who just shrugged at her. Hazel's expression darkened for a second, but then she seemed to realize something. “I was aware. Don’t know what I was, but I was… THERE. Does that mean it worked?” She turned to Doug. "Well..." When he turned away, she looked to her sister.
Rhiannon shook her head. "You went, she stayed."
"Fuck."
"To put it mildly."
"We have to fix this."
"Obviously," Rhiannon said. "But that's your problem. Like I said earlier, I'm going dancing. So, good luck."
"Dancing?"
"Dancing."
"But what about me? I need help here."
"Yes, you do. But since this is a science problem..." She nodded to Doug, then to Marie.
"It's a bit more than just a science problem," Doug pointed out.
"True," she admitted. "But there's not a lot that we can do about it now, is there?" She waited for an answer but, again, no one seemed to have one. "There you go. We'll figure it out eventually. In the meantime, there's a nightclub with my name on it."
"I can't believe you," Hazel said. "You'd put a night of dancing ahead of your own sister."
"Hey, I'm not the one that decided to play around with some weird science gizmo she didn't know how to use."
Hazel eyes narrowed. "Well, I might not know anything about using that thing," she said, raising the Linge-Ray, "but I’m plenty familiar with this one. Let me show you." And she fired it at her sister.
"HEY!" Rhiannon shouted as the beam struck her in the chest. She watched as a glow formed at the spot. "Well, shit," she sighed before disappearing. A second later, a pair of panties fell to the floor.
"Saw that coming," Marie commented.
"Really?" Hazel said, turning the device on her. "How about this?" She fired again.
Marie just sighed as her own chest began to glow. "Actually, yeah. I did." And with that, she vanished, replaced a second later by a strapless bra.
"Hazel..."
"No, Doug," she stopped him. "I don’t want to hear it. My sister thinks she can just desert me and go out dancing. I mean… Fuck. I’ve been trying to have a night out myself for… Hell, I don’t know how many days now. Well, tonight I’m going.” She looked down at the panties on the floor. “You got that?” Her sister didn’t answer. “I’ll take that as a yes.”
"And Marie?"
"Is the reason I didn’t get my night out in the first place. So, she’s coming with me so she can’t mess it up this time." She turned to the tall woman that she figured was her brother-in-law. "How about it? Care to join us?"
Michael considered it. "As?" she asked after a moment.
Hazel smiled at her. "I could use some pantyhose."
She returned the smile. "I'm in." A second later, she joined the lingerie on the floor.
Hazel turned to her husband. "My turn?" he asked.
"Maybe," she answered, "but not with this." She tossed the Linge-Ray on the bed, making sure that it wasn't anywhere near the brunette in the corner. "Remember what I offered the other day?"
"Not really," he admitted.
"About using my witchcraft to see if you'd be aware if I turned you into something that wasn't alive," she prompted.
"Oh," he nodded. "Yeah."
"Well, how would you like to be my dress for the night?"
He considered it. "Well, I might be interested, but..." He nodded to the corner. "What about her?"
Hazel looked over at the woman. "Yeah. I see your point." She moved to stand in front of the brunette. "What do you say, Victoria? Want to go dancing?"
The woman stood up a little straighter. "Victoria?" she asked.
"That's what it says on the label," Hazel smiled. "Look, you and I have to come to some kind of understanding. We might as well have fun doing it, right?"
"I guess, but..." She looked down at her nakedness.
"Don't worry. I'm sure I've got something that will fit you. In fact..." She turned and picked up the panties from the floor, tossing them to the other woman. "Here, start with her."
"You want me to wear your sister?"
"Well, I'm not going to. I mean, that's just... ewww." She turned back to her husband.
"But you'll wear mine," he pointed out with a smile.
"Without a single reservation," she smiled back, placing her hands on his shoulders. "So...?"
"So..." He bent forward to kiss her. "Have fun," he told her as he pulled back.
"I will," she said, sending her witchcraft into him.
Where her hands rested on his shoulders, a light slowly engulfed him. After a second, the light reshaped and faded, leaving a little black cocktail dress hanging from her fingers.
"You in there, Hon?" she asked. When she didn't get an answer, she shrugged. "I guess we'll find out in the morning." Letting the dress drop to her side, she turned back to Victoria. "Well, I got my dress. Let's find one for you."
