The Inventor's Brother-In-Law
by JMD
Gliding into her bedroom, the inventor's sister took a second to drop the Linge-Ray and the slip onto her bed before moving over to her dresser. Opening the top drawer, she carefully folded one cup of the bra into the other before placing it inside with her other underwear.
"Now," she smiled down at it, "you two take it easy tonight. You've got a busy day tomorrow." As she used her hip to close the drawer, she laughed at her own silliness. From experience, she knew that victims of the Linge-Ray had no awareness of what was going on around them. But she just couldn't resist taunting her brother and his wife.
Turning, she looked over to her bed at the satin slip that was actually her husband. According to her sister-in-law, the poor man had been that way since he went out to get the newspaper the day before. With a sigh, she went over and picked up the Linge-Ray.
She had given it a quick looking over after her brother had used it to free her from being a bra. Now, she gave it a closer inspection. She still couldn't believe that something that looked like it came out of one of those cheesy black-and-white science fiction movies on late night television could do what it did. That it worked was just more proof that her brother was wasting his engineering talents as far as she was concerned.
Checking out the controls, she noted the toggle switch that changed its setting from lingerie to human. Simple, but effective. Under that were the two dials that were used to determine what effect the ray would have. The one on the right had just two settings and was currently set for "woman". "Well, I guess I know how you ended up with tits now, Little Brother," she commented to herself. Checking out the other dial, she saw that it had more settings than the right one. A lot more. "My god," she said, looking over the various things the device could be set to turn someone into. "It looks like he's included everything out of the Victoria's Secret catalogue in this crazy thing."
She turned back to look at her husband, lying helpless on the mattress. "I guess I should get you back to normal," she said to it. "You've been stuck longer than any of us so far."
She made sure that the toggle switch was set for "human", then looked at the dial that was still set for "woman". Biting her lip, she thought for a minute before shaking her head. "Nah," she said, turning the dial to "man". Aiming the bulb on the top of the device at the slip, she pressed the red button.
With the now familiar "pop", the slip vanished. A second later, her husband "popped" back into existence, lying on his back holding yesterday's newspaper in his hand. To his credit, he remained calm, slowly looking around the bedroom until he came to focus on his wife. "Welcome back, Mister," she said with a nervous smile.
"From where?" he asked, slowly sitting up.
She sighed before answering. "I know this is going to be hard to believe," she explained, "but for the last couple of days, you've been a slip."
He cocked an eye at her. "I've been asleep?"
"Not asleep," she corrected. "A slip."
"A slip?" he repeated.
"Right."
"A slip of what?" he asked.
"Nothing," she answered. "Just a slip." He just looked back at her. "You know," she went on, "like what I wear under a dress sometimes. That kind of slip."
He thought about that one for a few moments. "I've been ladies underwear?" he asked slowly. She nodded in reply. "For two days?" Another nod. He thought about it some more. As he did, he looked out the bedroom door. "Okay," he said with a nod, "I see what this is."
"You do?"
He turned back to her. "I do," he told her. "You've been peeking at my work computer, haven't you?"
"What?" she said in shock. "No," she added defensively. Then, her eyes narrowed. "Why?" she added suspiciously.
For a second, he looked concerned, but he recovered quickly. "Oh, no!" he countered, waving a finger at her. "You're not turning this back on me."
"I'm not trying to," she argued, back on the defensive.
"Right," he harrumphed. "You come at me with some crazy story about me turning into underwear..."
"It's not a crazy story," she cut him off. "It's the truth."
"Oh, yeah. Prove it."
She started to protest, but stopped before saying a word. Instead, she sighed heavily. "I knew we were going to get to this eventually," she told him with a half smile. "Might as well get it over with. Come here."
Cautiously, he got up from the bed and walked to her. "What's that?" he asked, as he saw the strange looking device she was holding.
"This, husband dear," she told him, "is what cost you two days of your life. Meet the Linge-Ray."
He looked up from the device to her. "Seriously."
"Afraid so," she admitted.
"Where did you get it?" he asked. She just looked back at him with a crooked smile. "Oh, right," he nodded. "I should have known."
"Yes, you should've," she agreed, making a couple of adjustments on the device she was holding. "Now, pay attention. This is important. See this?" She toggled the switch back and forth between "human" and "lingerie". At his nod, she went on. "I'm going to set it for 'lingerie'."
"Uh, okay."
"After," she continued, "you're going to turn it back to 'human'. Got it?"
"After what?"
"After you see," she answered cryptically.
"After I see what?" he asked. She cocked her head at him. It was a look he knew well. "Sorry."
"Again, important," she instructed, toggling the switch again. "Back to 'human'. Got it?
"Got it."
She toggled the switch back to 'lingerie" and handed him the device. "Everything else is already set, so leave the knobs alone. Okay?"
"You're the engineer," he saluted.
She gave him a bemused look, then went over and sat on the bed. "Okay," she said, laying back onto her elbows, "I figure it'll take you a minute or so to convince yourself this is real." He started to say something, but she stopped him with a raised hand. "You'll see," she assured him. "Anyway, I'll give you two minutes. Then, you'd better bring me back."
"Bring you back," he repeated with a smile. "Got it."
She eyed him seriously. It was obvious he thought she was playing some kind of game with him. Well, he'd see soon enough. "Okay, aim the bulb at me and press the button."
Playfully, he made a show of pointing the device at her. She glanced over at the clock on the bedside table, noting the time. As she turned back, he hit the button and the beam shot out of the bulb. She looked down as a soft glow appeared on her chest. She looked back up at her husband, who was staring back at her with a shocked expression. "I'm serious," she told him. "Two min..."
With a "pop", she disappeared. A moment later, a satin slip laid spread out on the mattress in her place.
"Holy shit!" her husband hissed, almost dropping the Linge-Ray at the sight of his wife's transformation. He continued to stare at the slip on his bed for a few moments. "Honey?" he called out softly.
In response, the slip just laid there.
He looked around the room, expecting to find her somewhere laughing at him. But he was alone in the room. He turned back to the bed. The slip remained right there. "Oh, come on," he said, looking back down at the device he was holding. "This can't..." He looked back at the slip on the bed. "I mean... It's impossible. Right?"
Again, the slip offered no answer.
Slowly, he walked over to the bed. Setting the Linge-Ray down, he picked up the slip, holding it up by the shoulder straps. He looked for any sign of his wife in its smooth satin surface, but there was nothing there. With one more look around to make sure his wife wasn't hiding somewhere else in the room, he finally accepted what he had witnessed. This device... this Linge-Ray... had turned his wife into a simple satin slip.
And he smiled.
"Holy shit," he said again, softer this time. He reached down and picked up the Linge-Ray, taking a closer look at it. He noted the "man/woman" knob, but what really got his attention was the one on the other side. "Bra," he read. "Panties. Slip. Negligee. Camisole. Pan..." He stopped and grinned. "Yes!" he practically shouted.
Glancing at the clock, he noted the time. He turned his eyes back to the slip that was his wife. Setting the Linge-Ray back down, he carried the slip to the head of the bed. Carefully, he laid it down with the shoulder straps on his wife's pillow and the rest spread out down her side of the bed. Bending, he planted a soft kiss on the bust of the satin garment. "Thank you, Sweetheart," he whispered. "You don't know it, but you've made my day." He glanced down the bed at the Linge-Ray, before turning back to the slip. "Time to return the favor."
After another quick kiss, he went back around to the end of the bed. Picking up the remarkable device, he followed his wife's instructions and toggled the switch back over to "human". With one last look at his wife's current form, he aimed the device and pressed the button. Instantly, the beam fired from the bulb. Hitting the slip dead center, it produced the soft glow he had seen earlier on his wife's chest.
The slip disappeared with a "pop", and a second later, his wife reappeared with her head resting on her pillow. "...nuts," she said, finishing the statement she had started before her transformation. Realizing that she was in a new position on the bed, she immediately looked over to the clock on the bedside table. "Three minutes," she commented. "Close e... Mrpph?"
Her eyes grew wide as her husband cut off her comment with the most passionate kiss she'd had in ages. He hadn't kissed her like this since their honeymoon, at the very least. Perhaps not since their third date. And she liked it. She liked it a lot.
Ending the kiss, her husband immediately began to undo the buttons on her blouse. "Not that I'm complaining," she smiled up at him, "but may I ask what brought this on?"
"No," he stated flatly, throwing open her blouse.
"No?"
"No," he said again, sharply unzipping her skirt. "Look, Sweetheart," he said, moving to the foot of the bed, "I'll be happy to tell you all about it..." He reached forward and took the bottom of the skirt in his hands. "...later. Right now, though, I really must make mad..." He gave the skirt a yank that brought it down off her hips. "...passionate..." With another yank, the skirt reached her knees. "...love..." A final yank freed the skirt from her legs. He tossed it casually over his shoulder. "...to my wife," he finished up with a crooked smile.
She just looked back at him for a second, then sat up. "Well..." she said, slipping out of her blouse. She quickly gave it a casual toss of her own. returning his smile. "If you must."
