The Inventor's Sister
by JMD
"Okay," the inventor's sister said slowly, "let's see if I've got this right."
"Alright," her sister-in-law, the witch, nodded.
"This is my husband?" She held up the satin slip she had been handed a few minutes before.
"That's right."
"And that," she went on, nodding to the bra the redhead across the room was holding, "is my brother?"
"Not quite," the other woman told her. She gave the bra a little shake. "This is my uppity panties. She just happens to be wearing your brother."
"Your panties?"
"Right," the witch nodded.
"Your panties are now a bra?"
"Yes."
"And they are wearing my brother?"
"As panties, yeah."
The older woman just stared at her for a moment before running her free hand through her blonde hair. "You know what?" she sighed. "Never mind who's what. Just tell me how we get everyone... and everything... back to the way they should be."
"I have no idea," her sister-in-law replied.
"No idea?" the blonde practically shouted. "I thought you were the expert when it came to all this transformation crap."
"When it's being done by witchcraft, sure," the redhead shot back. "But this was science. And that's you and your brother's area. Not mine."
"You just said that you were the one that turned this woman..."
"Not a woman," her sister-in-law interrupted. "My panties."
"Whatever! You said you turned her into that bra."
"I did," the witch admitted, "but not with witchcraft. Well, not directly with witchcraft. I just used it to redirect the beam from the Linge-Ray."
The blonde's head dropped to her chest. "Linge-Ray," she repeated. "I'm still having a hard time dealing with that one. Why in the world would he want to make something that would..." She looked up to see the witch giving her a crooked smile. "This is all your fault, you know."
The other woman's expression darkened. "My fault?"
"Yeah. Before he met you, he was on the way to a brilliant career as an engineer. Then, you came along and show him that magic..."
"Witchcraft," the redhead corrected for what seemed like the millionth time.
"Whatever," the inventor's sister said in an obviously condescending tone. "You're still the one that filled his head with all this crazy transformation nonsense. Now, it's all he wants to work on."
The witch held up a finger at her sister-in-law. "We'll see if you still think it's nonsense after he comes up with something that makes us rich."
"Right," the blonde agreed sarcastically. "Because the world is just dying for a product that turns people into ladies underpants." The other woman just glared at her in reply. "Now, if you don't mind, can we see about getting our husbands back?"
"Fine. How?"
The inventor's sister shrugged. "Are you sure that your ma... uh, witchcraft can't do anything about this?"
The other woman shook her head. "That was the first thing I tried." She held up the bra and looked it over. "I don't know if it's because the Linge-Ray is in there with them or what? But nothing I try seems to do anything."
The blonde considered that. "What about that whole 'things are what they are' thing my brother was telling me about?"
"You mean wait until they change back on their own?"
"Yeah," her sister-in-law nodded. "Will that happen?"
The redhead gave her a slight nod. "It should. The problem is that there's no set time limit. It could take anywhere from a few hours to a few months for them to recover."
"Months?"
The witch nodded. "Yeah, sometimes. And remember something else. This is based on witchcraft. Not science. That might take even longer. I honestly can't say."
"Yeah," the blonde said, looking at the piece of fabric in her hand, "that's not going to work. There's no way I'm staying married to a slip for a few months."
"I think it's called a chemise."
"It's called a disaster," her sister-in-law countered. "We need to fix this." She looked over at her brother's work bench. "We need to find his notes."
"Notes?"
Going over to the bench, the blonde explained, "Yeah, you know. Details on his projects. How they work... or should work. You ever see anything like that?"
Coming over to stand beside the other woman, the witch nodded. "On the shelf there," she said, pointing. "He's got a catalog or something like that with all his ideas in it."
"This?" the blonde asked, pulling down a small journal.
"That's it."
Throwing the slip that was her husband over her shoulder, the inventor's sister cleared a spot on the bench. Laying out the journal, she started leafing through it. "He's built all this stuff?" she asked, turning pages.
"Not all," his wife answered, looking at the pages. "But some. Mostly, these are ideas he has for new stuff."
His sister shook her head. "Where does he..." She stopped as a particular page caught her attention. "The Deflator Pump?" she asked, looking over at her sister-in-law.
The other woman shrugged. "Don't knock it till you try it."
"Another time perhaps." The blonde went back to thumbing through the book. "Ah," she said after turning another page or two. "This might do it." She held the book out to the witch. "Has he built this yet?"
"The Restorer," the inventor's wife read. "It looks familiar. What's it supposed to do?"
"Just what it says," her sister-in-law answered as she started looking through the boxes spread atop the bench. "It restores stuff that's been turned into other stuff."
"And that would work?"
"How should I know. But it's better than anything else we've got so far." She stopped as she spotted something in one of the boxes. "Got it," she announced, pulling out a square silver object. She held it out and compared it to the sketch in the journal. "What do you think?"
The inventor's wife looked over the device in her sister-in-law's hand. It was a simple metal box about the size of a cell phone. It had a simple clear lens on one end and a single black button on the top. She nodded. "Yeah, that's it."
"Good. Bring..." She stopped to point at the bra in the witch's hand. "Uh... them... over here. Let's see if this is going to work."
The inventor's wife followed her back to the center of the basement, placing the bra on the floor where she was told. Stepping back out of the way, she asked, "So, how does it work?"
"According to his notes, you just point it at the transformed whatever and press the button." The blonde did just that, jumping slightly as the lens on the end flashed brightly for a second.
The effect was immediate, as the bra disappeared with a "pop" of misplaced air. A second later, another "pop" accompanied the appearance of a half naked young woman, wearing just a pair of simple white bikini panties. In her hand, she held what the blonde could only believe was the Linge-Ray.
"Yes!" the inventor's sister shouted with a hand pump.
This proved to be a mistake, as it startled the newly recreated woman in front of her. With a panicked screech, the woman pointed the device in her hand at the unknown woman before her and hit the red button on the top. Instantly, a laser-like light shot from the bulb on the end and struck the still celebrating woman in the chest.
With a gasp, the blonde looked down at the softly glowing spot on her chest. Bringing her head back up, she gave the half-naked brunette a disgusted look. "Well, crap," she spat out, a moment before she disappeared with a "pop" of her own. A second later, a bra identical to the one that the other woman had been just moments before dropped to the floor in her place.
"Nice shooting, Tex!" the witch commented with a smile.
The brunette spun around at the sound of her voice, bring the Linge-Ray to bear on the woman standing behind her. Before she could hit the button, however, the redhead made a gesture and the device was snatched from her grip. It floated over into the waiting hands of the witch. "I think you've caused enough trouble with this," she said. "Don't you?"
The former panties' face fell. "But I don't want to go back to being underwear," she pleaded.
The inventor's wife sighed. "Fine," she relented. She gestured toward the distressed woman, reciting something under her breath.
The brunette gasped as her entire body started to glow. Soon, all that could be seen of her was a bright female-shaped light image, that began to change shape. It pulled into itself, growing smaller. After it had reshaped itself, the light began to fade. As it did, it became apparent that the woman was gone. In her place, floating in the air, was a coat hanger used to hold lingerie. Hanging from its clips was the pair of panties that used to be the inventor.
"There," the witch said, coming over to take the hanger by its hook. "You're not underwear."
She turned her attention to the bra lying nearby. She walked over, unable to keep from smiling. She reached down and picked it up. Slipping its straps over the corners of the hanger, she held it up for inspection, grinning at the sight of the newly created Brother-and-Sister bra and panty set. Looking around for the slip that was her brother-in-law, she remembered that his wife had been holding him when she'd been hit by the Linge-Ray. "Well, at least you've got company in there," she said to the bra.
Glancing at the clock on the wall, she sighed. "All right, everyone," she said, wondering to herself if anyone could even hear her at this point. "It's been a long night, and I'm more than a little tired. So, unless someone has any objections, it's going to be tomorrow morning before I worry about getting all this straightened out." She waited, but no one said anything. "Good," she nodded. "Let's all go to bed then, shall we?"
And with that, she headed up the stairs, cutting off the basement lights as she did.
