Recap by chapters:
start : You are Alvin, a weapon restorer. You have been forced to purchase, for 500$, a magic machete from an old man, who is allegedly a powerful wizard (did he hinted at having been a woman more than 50 years ago?). The machete can cut flesh without hurting people, and the detached parts remain in control of their owners, unless the connection is severed by attaching the part to someone or something else. The tool can also take out the soul from a body, and whatever the soul gets inserted on, the person will possess.
You decide to take the bus and go back home, taking a breath of relief only when you lock your door behind you. Your partner, Brie, calls you from the bathroom with a Fench accent « Alvin? Is that you? How did the meeting with that guy go? Did you buy the thing?»
« Yeah, you won't believe what I have to tell you! Come here as soon as you can » you reply, still a bit shocked.
You wait for Brie to finish her business, waiting for her on the sofa, twiddling with the machete, until she arrives in front of you and sits beside you. You are still wearing your regular clothes: a blue sweater, a t-shirt underneath, jeans and socks, but you removed your jacket as you were first talking with Brie, and you changed your shoes for a pair of slippers, like you always do in your house. She is wearing some fairly casual clothes too, grey sweatpants, white socks, lime green slippers and a white tank top. As she sits down, her eyes do not leave the machete « Wow, that's so pretty. how much did you pay for it? » she says in her every so thick accent
« More than I would have liked to. » you confess « Let me tell you the entire story »
As you explain what happened, you see a full range of emotion go over her face: disbelief, horror, fear, worry, and ultimately, incredulity « Come on, Alvin, you are just trying to fool me. There is no way that what you just said is true. I wasn't born yesterday »
« Oh yeah? » you reply, with a smirk « watch this then » you raise your left hand in front of you, before striking it right at the wrist with the machete. The flesh separates like your hand was made of butter, making your hand fall on your thigh.
Brie lets out a blood curdling scream, but her eyes widen in surprise as she sees you are making your hand crawl on your leg and direct it towards hers. She writhes in disgust and jumps away from the couch as the hand touches her thigh, as you chuckle and grab your hand to reattach it in place « look, not even a scar »
You show her your reattached hand, and she examines it, controlling there is no blood or scars on your wrist « That is amazing » she bends down to check it really close, putting her head and neck dangerously in range of the weapon.
You cannot resist the temptation, and so you swing the knife through her neck, as she gasps comically for the surprise. As her body jerks back up in a tensed position, her head falls face first in your left hand, making her very confused « What? » she exclaims, reaching up to touch her face, her hands grasping air instead. She pats the area where her head should be, finding only a neck stump under her fingers. Meanwhile you are turning her head in your hands to face her body, making her almost loose balance « Whoooa! Careful, you'll make me sick » as she gets faced with her body, the reality of the situation sinks in « Ahh, my body. Why did you cut me up, you jerk! » she gently slaps your arm with weak movements of her arms.
« Come on, honey, it's just a prank » you smile, bringing her head to face you « besides, I wanna try something more. can you sit your body back on the sofa? »
« If you face me towards my body, yeah » she agrees, and you comply. She sits near you, and you quickly attach her head's neck stump on the sofa. Her body falls limp near you. She is not exactly thrilled by the situation, quite the contrary « I can't feel my body! Hey, what gives? What are you trying to do? » she frantically asks you « Put me back »
« Don't worry, Brie » you reply to her « I am not gonna do anything weird. You know I would never hurt you. I have just experienced something in Mr. Grey's house and I wanna make you experience the same » you say, as you take back the machete in hand.
« What exp-? oh! » she realizes « You know what. Yeah, do it! I wanna try! » her face changes expression from fear and discomfort to anticipation and excitement.
« Alright, here we go » you lower the weapon at half depth through her skull, until your blade clunks against something.
You raise the knife back out from her flesh, which flushes back together like nothing happened. A yellow ghostly heart is pierced on the top of the knife, letting go a small amount of yellow smoke that trails into purple. You are surprised by how different Brie's souls looks compared to your blue with blue smoke heart.
« That doesn't feel so nice » Brie frowns « But come on, do the thing. Do the thing »
You don't need to be told another time, you take her soul from the tip of the machete and push it gently in her body. Her head freezes in its current position, and her body springs back to life. She stretches her limbs and then massages her neck stump, apparently mesmerized by her headlessness. You let her experience her new condition for a bit, as she starts to walk around. Remembering how uncomfortable it was to be reconnected with a head who kept its eyes open for a long time, you use the machete to detach it from the sofa and close her eyelids back as she first stands up from the couch.
After a while, you walk to her and try to hand her head back to her, but she doesn't even turn to face you with the front of her body, putting instead a hand on her neck stump and wagging her finger "no".
She then pushes her head back in your hands, in a clear invite to keep it for the moment, after which she walks away and grabs...
