“Oh wow, I found our old babysitters,” a woman said as she reached down and picked up one of the dolls, who’s hair was mostly missing. “I think I started cutting her hair before I turned her into a doll.”
“Oh look at these ones,” another woman replied as she picked out another doll. This one had been drawn over to the point her face was no longer visible. “I think she had a tattoo so we drew all over her.”
“I remember this one,” she said with a chuckle. Showing off a doll they had drawn a penis on. “Didn’t we actually do something like this to a real person?”
“Probably,” the other woman replied. “I remember the two sitters we changed back, after we swapped their heads around.” She placed the drawn over doll in a pile of other junk. “I guess we throw this one.”
“Yeah,” the first woman replied as she took the heads off the other two dolls, putting the head with hair on the body that hadn’t been drawn on. She didn’t even bother putting the other one back together as she threw the head and body on the discard pile.
They went through the rest of the dolls, throwing away the damaged ones and placing the good ones in their own pile.
“So are you keeping them or not?” the second woman asked. “I mean we’ve kinda outgrown them.”
“They’re sentimental, I enjoyed playing with our babysitters,” she retorted, completely against the idea of getting rid of them.
“I bet you can’t even remember their names. I know I don’t. So really how much could they really mean to you.”
“But they were some of our first transformations,” she pouted.
“You can keep two. One male and one female,” she informed her.
Picking out the male was easy, they didn’t have too many boy dolls, and there was only one they hadn’t damaged. She grabbed him and one of the dolls with red hair. The rest were placed in a donation box.
“Oh my god!” the second woman giggled as they opened another box and pulled out a large pink dildo. “You can’t possibly want to keep this.”
“Hey careful, that’s the first guy I had sex with,” the first woman snatched the dildo from her and placed it on the ground carefully.
“And how many times have you used him since?” the second woman asked, looking unimpressed.
“Maybe once, it wasn’t as good as the real thing, and I didn’t give him a vibrator setting,” the first woman clung to the sex toy. “But it’s special, a keepsake.”
“You do know there’s three identical dildos in the box right? How do you know that’s the right one?” she bluffed. There were other dildos but they were different colours.
“Fine…” the first woman passed the dildo back. “I guess throw the entire box then.”
The second woman smiled as they continued to clear the attic.
“Hey there’s a couple of signs here, a real estate sign, and a couple of election signs.” The first woman said.
“Oh yeah, those. One of them is the agent who was trying to sell the house next door. She didn’t like how great grand dad’s leaves were getting in the yard and asked me to trim the branches.”
“What a bitch,” the first woman stated.
“No, that was the former neighbour, I sent her to the pound for rehoming,” the second woman corrected.
“And the other sign?”
“Oh he was someone who wanted us to put up a sign to vote for the mayor. I did end up putting it up but not before trapping her in the sign. But I heard he won so there’s something.”
“Still both signs are totally useless, one for an election that’s over and another for a real estate agent that no longer works.” The first woman said as she placed them on the discard pile.
“Oh what a lovely dress,” the second woman picked up a blue formal dress. “Please tell me this used to be someone.”
“Oh that’s my prom dress, and yeah. Someone, I can’t remember who, asked if he could go to prom with me. I already had a date but I didn’t want to say no. So I let him be my dress. I was even considering changing him back afterwards but he clung to me so tightly, especially around my boobs, so I kept him as the dress. Don’t get rid of him, I could always repurpose him later.”
“Onto the keep pile, got it.” She gently placed the dress down.
“This is a wonderful painting,” the first woman picked out a canvas with a woman on her knees begging. “You really captured the fear.”
“Yeah, that was my art teacher. She said I was hopeless and would never be an artist. So I captured her hopelessness and made her art.”
“I like it, can we keep it? She’ll look good above the fireplace.”
“Sure…” the second woman said as she grabbed something hiding behind another box. “What is this?” She picked up a jar with a human brain in it.
“Oh that’s Nigel, he was this super smart person. He wanted to help me with my homework. I ended up removing his brain and draining all his knowledge, it’s why I’m so smart,” she bragged as she eyed off the other woman. “But yeah, it’s creepy, so you can get rid of it.”
It was late in the afternoon by the time they had almost finished. The discard pile was larger than the donation and keep pile. In the keep pile they only had a few items, including the two dolls, dress, painting, a grandfather clock, and other family heirlooms. Though there was still a locked chest they hadn’t looked in yet.
“Found the key, it was in grandpa,” the second woman held up the tiny key and unlocked the chest. She lifted the lid and found a living detached head with no mouth, looking up at them. It blinked a few times, trying to determine if this was real.
“Who is that?” the first woman asked, picking up the head by the side.
“I don’t know, I thought she was one of yours,” the second woman replied.
“I know nothing about this, and I’m usually good at remembering who I’ve transformed,” she retorted, handing the head to the other woman.
“Well it wasn’t me either, nothing about her is ringing any bells.” She turned the head upside down and poked and prodded at it. “Maybe we can ask her, restore her mouth,” she instructed, handing the head back.
“I can’t, there’s a spell lock on it and I don’t know the phrase.”
“If you don’t know it, then I don’t know it either. Maybe we wiped our memories of her?” the second woman suggested.
“Maybe, though I wonder why we would do that. Oh well, back in the chest she goes,” the first woman placed her back down, shutting the lid and locking the chest. “I think that one can stay in the attic.”
“I agree,” the second woman nodded as she took the key. “I think it’s best if we forget about the key too.”
“Agreed.”
The women disposed of the key and made themselves forget where they put it. They ignored the chest as they finished cleaning out the attic.
