The windows rattled loudly too a point of almost shattering as the wind howled. Lightning lit up the room as thunder shook the entire house. The storm was so severe that the house threatened to collapse in on itself, which it would've done if it was still the old run down husk it had been the previous day. It was still rundown, with cracked walls and loose floorboards, but now it was habitable. A drip from the leaking roof hit Ryan on the head, making him stir as another clap of thunder, startled him awake. He wasn't usually afraid of storms but this one freaked him out.
Ryan was alone in an ornate bed, wearing some red silk pajamas. His room was quite large and nicely decorated with antique furniture, though it lacked modern comforts. Besides the bed were two night stands, one had an oil lamp while the other had a pot plant. The bed was opposite a vanity desk, which had cologne bottles and a hand razor. A portrait of a woman hung over the desk. The floor was wooden and had a large rug taking up much of the room. Against the wall with the door was a large wardrobe and dresser.
Other than the lightning flashes, Ryan was in complete darkness and it took him a while for his eyes to adjust. He looked near the oil lamp to see if there was a way to light it and he found a set of matches in the top draw. He lit the match, followed by the oil heater and made his way for the corridor. He didn't know what time it was but it had to be early in the morning. His footsteps made the floorboards creek and he was almost expecting them to collapse underneath him. He went out into the hallway and found himself on the second story of the house. His room was by the stairs and he had a good view of the entry to the house.
Four more doors opened up and Ryan was joined by the girls, all in nightgowns, also carrying oil lamps. A loud crash made them jump as what sounded like a tree, fell down outside. The five of them made their way for the stairs and Jessie led them to the study in the center of the house. It had no windows or fire place and the only source of natural light came from an archway that connected it to the living room.
"You really know your way around this place," Tammy looked at Jessie with suspicion.
"I told you yesterday, I traveled back in time, I've been her before... oh right you were a murderous werecat," Jessie looked at Ryan with her facial expression half covered in shadow. "Thanks for letting her get me by the way."
"Hey you shot Ester, which given the situation was maybe fair," Ryan was interrupted by Ester's objection. "I said maybe," he defended. "But you shot me for no reason but revenge for something I wasn't even in control of."
"Wait, so you were aware when you played the slutty hunter?" Ester wasn't happy to hear that.
"Aware but not in control, we all know what that's like by now, so can we stop judging each other on the actions we take," Ryan pleaded.
"We might not be in control but doesn't mean we can't enjoy it," Ruby smiled. "I'll admit there's been a few times I've enjoyed it."
"Not helping..." Ryan growled at her.
"I think we can agree being behind the wheel of a murderer is not enjoyable..." Ester gave Ruby a look. "But yeah, it's a bitch move when you do it on purpose."
"Alright fine... I'm sorry I shot Ryan. Still not sorry about you though, I was following monster infection survival rules." Jessie left the room before anyone else could say anything. The storm had died down a bit so the house didn't feel like a danger.
"My hair!" Tammy screamed as a strange wind blew by them, causing her hair to blow into her lamp, making it catch alight. She was able to pat it out quickly though now the room smelled of singed hair. It was the oil lamp that she dropped that was now the problem. Without thinking Ruby took off her night gown and smothered the fire with it. It soaked up the oil, stopping fire on the ground, but now she had a burning gown to deal with. She took it and ran to the back door near the kitchen and threw the gown out into the rain.
"Let's face it, I was going to end up like this anyway..." Ruby shivered as she felt something touch her shoulder. A weak reflection in the window, caused by the remaining fires, showed a man standing behind Ruby. With a flash of lightning, Ruby was gone, though her reflection in the window remained and it was looking around confused.
"Ru..." Tammy began to scream but she was lifted up in the air and coughed up a ball of light and lowered to the ground again as a ball of shadow entered. Tammy's head turned a full one eighty degrees around and she looked at Ester and Ryan with cold red eyes, she gave them a smile wider than what should've been possible as her body snapped around to match the direction of her head. Tammy raised her hands up, causing Ester and Ryan to collapse on their knees.
Both of them felt their stomachs churn as they vomited up a mound of maggots. Ryan stopped, while Ester kept going as her body dried up into a husk of skin and bones, she was still alive and barely breathing as the maggots she threw up slithered towards her and began to feed on what remained. Ryan couldn't breath as he was lifted up into the air and was sent flying out the window, into a tree out the back. His bones were broken as he laid faced down in the mud. The water from the ground continued to rise and he eventually drowned.
