“Welcome to Custom Creations how can we help you?” The receptionist greeted the young woman as she entered the door. She had long brown hair and had a playful grin. She was wearing a dark purple tank top and had tanned brown jeans. The receptionist knew just by looking at her whatever she intended to order was going to be creative.

“I’m after a cake,” the woman replied as she leant her arm on the front desk. “A really special cake, for a very special someone.” She gave a huge grin as she told the receptionist what she wanted.

“Oh my, that’s quite a request,” the receptionist was taken back. “Don’t worry, though we’re most certainly capable of it. After all our motto is ‘If you want it we can create it’. That being said you will need to sign these forms.” The receptionist handed her a clipboard and a pen. She waited as the woman signed the forms. “Alright then, just go through those doors and someone will be with you shortly.”

The delivery driver pulled up at the warehouse to Custom Creations. He always liked coming here. He’d always see some crazy and wild creations that always blew his mind. Today however he was tasked with delivering a small box. It didn’t look like anything special and just had the delivery address and instructions labeled on top.

“Careful, it’s heavier than it looks,” one of the warehouse employees warned as he approached the driver. He gave him a form to sign. “Alright, look like she’s all yours.”

The delivery driver read the instruction carefully before picking the box up. With the creations made at this warehouse, he had to be very careful. The instructions were simple yet strange at the same time. It had the usual, fragile, handle with care and hold this side up, labels as well as the weight and careful lifting instructions. It’s at the delivery instructions it got weird. It told him it had to be placed in the front seat, with the radio on. He was also to hand deliver it to the recipient and if they were not home, he was to take it straight back to the warehouse and try again the next day. He was never to leave the parcel unattended.

With those instructions in mind, the delivery driver figured it was best to get rid of this package first. He enjoyed the drive through Vancouver, listening to the songs on the radio. He turned the music down when he thought he heard something coming from the box, however the sound stopped when he turned down the music. He arrived at the address and got out of the car and walked around to the passenger side to grab the box.

He had to use both hands so was unable to knock on the door. “Hello!” he called out. “Delivery!” He called again when he didn’t get a response. He then started to head back to the car when he heard the door unlocked.

“Sorry about that, I was just putting my face on,” a young woman opened the door. She looked like she just got up, as her short sandy brown hair was all messy. She was already dressed however, wearing a light blue shirt and purple slacks.

“Ms Penny Mathews?” the delivery driver asked.

“The one and only,” Penny replied.

“Excellent, I have a parcel for you. Do you mind if I come in? It’s pretty heavy.”

“Not at all,” Penny lead him into the living room. “Just there’s fine.” She pointed to a coffee table.

The delivery driver placed the box down and grab his epod. “Signature please,” he handed the epod to Penny as he looked over at the box. “Do you mind if I ask what exactly you ordered?” the delivery driver gave into his curiosity. “Custom Creations usually make these wild things, it’s not often I deliver a mystery package.”

“I don’t know, I didn’t order anything from them.” Penny saw the disappointed look on the delivery driver’s face. “I guess we could find out together.”

Penny walked over to the coffee table and opened the box. Revealing a square cake with purple icing and a pink trim on the sides. In the centre of the cake it read ‘Happy Birthday Penny’ followed by twin hearts. Also in the box, taped to the lid, was a knife.

“Oh… happy birthday,” the delivery driver congratulated Penny, trying to hide his disappointment. He expected something more from the company than an ordinary cake, especially with the weight of the parcel and delivery instructions. “Well you have a lovely day, Ms Mathews.”

“Thank you,” Penny replied, not moving her gaze from the cake. She heard the front door close. “Hmm,” she examined the cake more closely as she unpacked the knife. “I wonder... “ She cut out an eighth of the cake and pulled the slice out. She was surprised to see that it what she thought was a cake, wasn't a cake at all. Instead of dough or ice cream there seemed to be made out of flesh. It was warm to touch and some of it even had freckles.

“I knew it!” Penny exclaimed as she turned the cake in her fingertips upside down to see the underbelly. It revealed a flattened segment of her girlfriend, Jean's, face. This piece in particular included one of her eyes. “Hi, Jean.”

The eye squinted at Penny, in delight. “Happy birthday Penny,” a muffled voice replied from underneath another part of the cake. Penny put down the slice she was currently holding and cut a new piece off.

“What am I supposed to do with you?” Penny pondered as she looked at Jean's flattened mouth

“Eat me… at least the icing, but don’t forget to cut me up, I am a cake after all.”

“And after that?”

“Do you still have that molding kit I gave you last year?”

Penny smiled. “Of course, now let’s get you cleaned up.” She said as she began to lick the icing.
