Cassie and her friends had never been much into halloween so when Elle had decided to throw a costume party it surprised Cassie. While she was never big into costume parties, Cassie was very much a party animal so she happily accepted the invitation. She didn’t go into too much detail with her own costume and she had most of the stuff needed in her own wardrobe anyway, she had a nice corset, fishnet leggings a pair of nice high heel shoes all she needed to buy were the cat ears and tail. While her sexy cat costume was basic, she still managed to turn heads in it and Cassie loved the attention.
She had been at the party for an hour now and she was already tipsy from the drinks. When Elle, who was dressed as a cute witch, came over to her friend. “He Cassie, I’d like you to meet my cousin Mitchell.” Cassie gave Elle an acknowledging smile. Usually when Elle wanted Cassie to ‘meet’ someone it usually meant something else. She then turned her attention to Mitchell himself and almost spat out her drink with the costume he had on. He was dressed up as an old timey nobel with riding boots to match but the thing that astounded Cassie was how he held his own head under his arm, it looked so seamless and lifelike, Cassie could’ve sworn that his head was actually detached. Mitchell himself looked pretty cute and Cassie nodded to Elle.
“Where has she been hiding you?” Cassie asked finishing with a growl as she mimicked a cat reaching out with its paw.
“I don’t get out much,” Mitchell replied. “This is one of the first times in ages I’ve really left the house, so Elle decided to throw me this party. She’s told me all about you, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you.” He reached out and grabbed Cassie’s arm, pulling it towards his head so he could kiss her on the hand. Cassie blushed at the gesture.
“Only the good things, I hope,” she said as pulled her hand back. Her heart was now beating a little faster now and she had goosebumps.
“Oh, you know that wouldn’t be fun Cass,” Elle taunted. “Now if you’d excuse me I have more matchmaking to carry out, hmm maybe I should’ve dressed up a cupid.”
Cassie watched Elle go and then returned her attention to Mitchell. “So she told you the bad stuff too huh? I’m surprised that didn’t scare you off,” Cassie chuckled.
“If anything, it made me want to meet you more,” Mitchell said with a grin.
Cassie blushed again. “Well if that’s the case, why don’t you tell me about yourself. You appear to have me at a disadvantage.”
“Sure, but let’s go somewhere more private first. It’s a bit too loud in here,” Mitchell suggested and Cassie agreed. They headed up stairs into the guest room where Mitchell had been staying. After they shut the door Mitchell walked over to the nightstand and placed his head down on it. “That’s a relief, do you know how tiring it is to carry your head around all the time?”
Cassie stared at the head in shock. “Wait that’s not a costume? You’re really headless? How?”
Mitchell smiled at her and as he gestured her over. “Maybe if you give me a kiss, I’ll tell you.” Cassie looked at him for a moment puzzled and confused. She knew that this is where this was going but think was how, still she was curious about how a thing like this was even possible, and all he wanted was a simple kiss so she could live with that. She walked over to the nightstand and paused for a moment, unsure how to proceed. “It’s alright, you can pick me up if you’d like.” So Cassie did, she then pulled him forward and gave him a peck on the lips, before placing him back down.
“Alr…” she began to say but didn’t get to finish her sentence as her head fell backwards but was caught by Mitchell’s body before it could land on the ground. He then placed her sideways on the bed and walked over to his head, placing it back onto his body.
“Ah that’s so much better,” Mitchell said as he readjusted to having his head back on his body. “Well to answer your question, that’s how. I kissed a headless girl and so I became headless and now I’ve passed it on to you,” He informed Cassie as he picked up her head. “Don’t worry it’s not permanent but you can only reverse the curse one night a year so you’ll be stuck like this for a while. I’ll even help you out a little. Step one, how to find your head when your body is out of sight,” Mitchell walked over to the opposite end of the bed from Cassie’s body and placed her head under it.
Her body flailed around helplessly as she tried to get to her head. “No, no Cassie. You mustn’t panic.” Cassie heard Mitchell’s voice but now it was at a distance. She felt him behind her body as he grabbed onto her arms. “You know where your head is, you just need navigate the terrain.” He guided her body over to the bed and placed her arms on the blankets. “Now that you’ve got your bearings, you can go get your head.” Cassie slowly made her way around the bed until she saw her legs in front of her, she then carefully bent down and reached out for her head. “Good job, now before the night is done I’ll teach you a few more techniques to you maneuver around in this state.”
For the rest of the night, Cassie was too angry to talk, too upset to process what was happening, still she let Mitchell teach her how to handle being a head and after a few hours of practice she got the hang of it. When they finally left the room, the party had died down and was almost midnight. Cassie made her way down stairs, with her head under her arm, and her hand supporting her chin. What Mitchell said before was true, it’s a great way to support your head but it gets tiring after a while. Cassie went to find Elle to inform her what her cousin had done. She was near where Cassie had left her handbag earlier in the evening. Cassie was about to say something but Elle spoke up first. “Oh good, everything worked out then?” Elle asked. “I wasn’t sure if Mitchell would go through with it, he seemed to feel guilty at first, but after I told him the kind of person you were he happily agreed.” Cassie suddenly grew angry at the betrayal. “Oh you thought we were still friends?” Elle taunted in a mocking voice. “After what you did to me? Oh no Cassie I’ve hated you for a long long time, the only reason why I kept this charade was for Mitchell’s sake but now that the curse has been passed on, I don’t need you anymore.” Elle grabbed Cassie’s bag and pushed it into her. “Now get out of my house.”
Cassie wanted to lash out at Elle, and had considered physically attacking the woman but in her headless state she knew Elle could easily get ahold of her head and then do who knows what. So Cassie just grabbed her handbag and left, tears rolling down her eyes at not only her current position but the loss of her friend too. She left in such a rush she tired out her feet that walking in her heels became painful, forcing her to take them off. She then walked home in the dark, her head under one arm and holding her shoes in the other.
