“Ava, you read this yet?”

“No, what is it?”

Ava sat at a table in a coffee shop with her good friend, Alicia. They did this every week on Saturday morning. They roomed together in college and, a year after graduating, they were still close friends.

Alicia passed her phone over to Ava, which showed an ad for a circus coming to town. The reel featured some lions, carnival rides, displays and even a magic show.

“Oh this looks interesting…”

“Yeah, its coming right to town too. It arrived yesterday and their opening night is tomorrow.” Alicia said.

“I’ve never seen a circus before. We should go!” Ava responded excitedly. She didn’t have anything planned for the following night and she figured it would be a good way to spend some time with her friend.

“Yeah, we should definitely go”, Alicia said as she sipped her coffee. “Could I invite Mark?”

“I mean, if you really want to…” Mark was Alicia’s boyfriend. Ava thought he was ridiculous, but he wasn’t as bad as some of her other boyfriends she had had.

“Perfect, I’ll send him a text.” Alicia pulled her phone back and began typing, her nails clacking against the screen.

“Cool.”

The next night, Ava met Mark and Alicia at her home. They decided to dress up a little bit before heading out. Ava decided to wear a yellow one-piece summer dress with a short skirt, and white high-top converse. Alicia wore the same, but with a maroon red dress instead. Mark wore slacks and a button-up shirt.

Ava was a slim figure, like an aspen tree. In the same way as the aspen, she seemed to flutter about with a continuous excitement and enthusiasm that infected the people around her. Her shoulder-length blonde hair was full of curls that bounced joyfully when she walked like the leaves of the aspen when a cool breeze wafted through. Her body was beautifully tanned from a week she had spent in Costa Rica less than a month before. Her face and skin were blemishless, giving her a seemingly radiant glow. Overall, she was truly a beautiful woman.

The trio arrived at the circus, which was being hosted in a large blue tent. The tent was the size of a large warehouse, taking a massive amount of room. Ava stared in awe at the size, with the four massive supports in the center holding the canvas up. Each support had flags flying from it, adorned with lions, rabbits and other circus things. The three young adults bought their tickets and were ushered inside by the ticketmaster, where they were greeted with a phenomenal sight.

The inside of the tent was more amazing than the outside. Large stages, small booths, vendors, food trucks, arenas and smaller tents filled the area, all bustling with activity. Ava stared at the scene before her, impressed with the sheer size of something that could be set up overnight.

“I figured you would like it here!” Alicia shouted to Ava over the noise that filled the tent.

“We should go get some food, im kinda hungry”, Mark said to the pair of girls.

“We just ate supper though!”

“Yeah but what about dessert? I think there’s a funnel cake truck over there…”

The trio walked about, discovering all the awesome things the circus had to offer. They saw a lion tamer in an arena, they watched trapeze artists swinging from the ceiling, they saw music and singing and dancing on a stage, it was all a wonderful experience. Ava was having the time of her life: she never knew a circus could be so much fun.

After a few hours, Alicia whispered to Ava, “Mark and I are gonna go do our own thing for a bit” she said with a wink.

Ava smiled. “No problem, I can keep myself busy.” She watched as the couple ran off, Mark towing Alicia along by her hand. After getting to know Mark a little more, Ava wasn’t as annoyed by him as she was before. She wished her friend best of luck in her mind, then turned to go find something else to do.

As Ava walked, she saw a smaller tent positioned to the side of the massive space. A sign out front read with an antique style and font, "The world famous Davinci the Magician!”. Ava was intrigued, she had never seen a magic show before. She walked into the tent, peering through the dark. She could hear the sounds of a performance inside and, coming around a corner, was met with a small stage and rows of chairs set up. There were numerous people sitting in the chairs, and a man in a black pinstripe suit was on stage. He wore a top hat and walked about with a cane, the typical magician's garb. Ava sat down about halfway to the front and began to watch the magician, whom she figured was Davinci.

The magician was in the middle of a card trick. He was pulling cards out from random places around the stage, from spectators and volunteers that he called up, from places on his body, from thin air, it was all very impressive. He had started with one deck, but he had pulled at least a hundred cards magically from air. In a final hurrah, he tossed his seemingly empty hands into the air with dozens of cards fluttering down around him as the audience applauded. Ava smiled and cheered, impressed by the performance.

“Now, for my next performance, I need a special volunteer. Someone who can stick around for a while…” Davinci announced with a twirl of his mustache. Ava had seen the other volunteers he had picked, so she shot her hand up, straining to try to get picked. The magician scanned the crown and, spinning his finger, landed on Ava. “You there, the lovely girl in the yellow dress!” Ava punched the air in victory, then stood up and walked on stage with a smile. Her converse hightops made her appear about an inch taller than she really was, which helped her tower over the short magician. She hadn’t realized that Davinci was so short, probably 5 foot 6 inches. Ava had at about three inches on him.

“Thank you! Thank you. Now, what is your name, young lady?” Davinci asked in his projecting voice, eyeing her up and down. “And please speak loudly for all to hear.”

“Uhh, hi, my name is Ava”, Ava said in a self-conscious way. Davinci noticed it and smiled.

“Don’t worry ma’am, we’re going to have a great show tonight.” At this the audience applauded and the magician took a bow.

“Now. Ava. You are okay with me calling you that, I hope? Wonderful. Now Ava. My assistant over here,” he gestured to the side of the stage, “will bring a special prop out. I call it… the ‘Wheel of DEATH!!’ “ a crashing sound came from backstage to emphasize the name. The audience gasped in anticipation. “If you are brave enough, my dear friend, would you be willing to face… the Wheel of DEATH!”

Ava did not hesitate. “Yeah, let's do it!”

“Bring it in!” The audience applauded as Davinci swept across the stage while the curtains parted on one side. A massive wheel sitting vertically, like the award wheels you see on TV, was being wheeled in on a cart. Lined up on the outside edge were balloons. Ava knew what was coming, and she began to get nervous.

“Ladies and gentlemen, our dear friend Ava will be STRAPPED to the wheel and hopefully, the spirits willing, she will be safe as I pop the balloons around her from the other side of the stage… with my throwing knives!” The same crescendo came from backstage as the crowd gasped.

“Ava. My dear friend. Are you brave enough to rise to the challenge?”

“I don’t really know anymore…” Ava trailed off.

“Ladies and gentlemen, can we give this wonderful young lady some support?” The crowd cheered, encouraging Ava to continue. “What do you say now Ava?” the magician asked, turning back towards her.

“Well, what the heck let's do it!” The crowd cheered as the magician led Ava towards the wheel.

“We will now get Ava situated in place. Can I get some more excitement from the crowd?” Davinci clearly knew how to run a crowd, and they all cheered while Ava was being attached to the wheel by two assistants dressed in black.

Ava stood in place and put each of her hands up, allowing the assistants to tightly secure her wrists to the rough wooden wheel with leather straps. Her arms were spread tightly above her, with little wiggle room. Her wrists barely reached the straps, meaning she was standing on her tiptoes to reach. Next, the assistant took one of her legs and pulled it over the side, securing her ankle to the board in the same manner. Likewise, her other ankle was secured until she was fully supported by her restraints. Ava was now secured to and supported exclusively by the wheel and her restraints. She was tightly spread out in the spread eagle position. As she tested the straps, she found she couldn’t move in the slightest. She supposed that was best for the magician since he wouldn’t want her to move while he threw the knives.

“Alright! Our lovely volunteer is now secured, so we may begin! Bring out the knives!” Ava felt her heart rate speed up as the assistant brought out a small leather bag. He opened it to reveal a set of small, shiny metal throwing blades. The magician picked one up and expertly twirled it about his fingers to oohs and aahs from the audience. Ava felt her breathing speed up as she subconsciously began to pull against the restraints. Her mind wanted her to get away from the situation, but the leather straps said otherwise. The magician picked up three more knives, so he was holding two in each hand. Looking out into the crowd, he raised his hands and everyone stopped applauding. The silence gripped the stage as Davinci slowly turned to face Ava, her face flushed and her limbs quivering in their restraints. Before she could think, she heard four faint whizzes and four loud thunks as the knives landed, popping four of the balloons around her body.

The audience cheered as Davinci retrieved more knives from the case. He walked further away than he had been for the first throws. He flicked the knives at seemingly in-human speed, the balloons popping loudly as the audience gasped and Ava squealed in fright. After the final balloon popped, the audience burst into applause as Davinci took several bows. Ava, her heart racing as she took deep gasping breaths, smiled a genuine look of relief. Her hair had fallen down in front of her face and she tried to flick her head to the side to move it since her arms were still bound to the wheel.

“Thank you! Thank you! And give it up for Ava as well!” The magician yelled, gesturing to Ava. She flushed as everyone cheered for her.

Davinci strode across the stage towards Ava. She sighed in relief at finally being able to get off of the wheel. Being bound like that had stressed her out, not to mention the knives flying through the air. Once the magician reached her, he stood in front of her blocking her view of the audience which was still cheering loudly.

“Thank you sir, can you take-“ Ava began to say before she was interrupted by Davinci.

“Thanks for volunteering Ava, if you hadn’t I wasn’t sure how I would have gotten you up here.”

Ava paused in confusion. “What?”

“Enjoy your time backstage my dear…” Davinci smiled. Using his body to block the view of the audience, he suddenly slapped his hand onto Ava’s inner thigh. She gasped in alarm as she felt the magician’s hand press a pad onto the inside of her thigh, an inch below her sex.

“Hey, what are you-“ Ava began before a powerful shock came from the pad. Ava gasped in pain as her leg contracted, then released. The magician turned back around to huge applause from the audience, who hadn’t seen what he did. An assistant came forward and began to roll the wheel towards the backstage with Ava still attached. She began to cry out for help before a second powerful shock ripped its way through her body, leaving her hanging limp from the wheel.

Upon reaching backstage, the assistant rolled the wheel behind the curtains to where he stopped and stood, waiting for something. Ava tried to call out for help again, but she was met with yet another powerful shock that was stronger than the last two combined. She screamed in pain, fighting against her ankle and wrist straps to try to get away, but nothing she did could get her off the wheel.

After a moment, the magician returned from the stage. Avav saw him coming and went to ask him what he was doing, but she remembered the shocks that came whenever she spoke so she remained silent.

“Ah, you already learned not to speak! Wonderful. I figured you would be a quick learner.” The magician twirled his mustache in delight. “Well, we better get you ready for the ride then. I’ve had my eye on you for a loooong time.” Ava could feel her heart rate speed up as she took faster and faster breaths.

“What are you- AHHHH” the pad sent a fourth shock through her body. Davinci clicked his tongue in disappointment.

“Tsk tsk, I thought you had learned.” He shook his head. “Well, I guess we will be needing extra precautions then.”

Davinci opened a case that was sitting on a table near where Ava was bound. She peered inside in fright, unable to see what he was pulling out. Davinci approached her with a couple of things concealed in his hands.

The magician slapped a second pad in the spot opposite of the first shock pad, on Ava’s other thigh. He reached up under her dress to place it there. He took his time with this one, watching Ava squirm as she fought against the straps. He brushed his hand up against her panties, feeling his way around where Ava was the most sensitive. The straps held her fast, leaving her at the magician’s mercy.

Next he reached up and looped a strap around Ava’s neck. She resisted the urge to call for help as Davinci looped the strap through slits in the board and tightened it, tightly securing Ava’s neck to the wheel in the same way her other limbs were restrained. Her breathing was uninhibited, only as long as she didn’t pull at the strap. She quickly found that her head movement was now entirely eliminated as she held it in place so she could breathe.

“There, how does that feel?” he asked with a menacing smile. Ava. Glared at him in silence, scared of how much worse the second shock pad would hurt if she spoke. Her silence clearly pleased Davinci.

“Ah, glad you are learning faster. Well, we can’t be too careful I guess.” With that the magician reached up and shoved a rag into Ava’s mouth. She immediately tried twisting her head away, but the neck strap tightened around her airway, making her turn back. She tried to yell, but a shock twice as powerful as before coursed through both her legs. Ava screamed into the rag, straining against her bonds in pain. When she recovered, she realized she had been gagged with the rag and a tight roll of duct tape around her head. She tried to move the rag with her tongue, but only succeeded in moving into a position that made her gag continuously, like when something touches the back of the throat. She managed to move it back and she looked up at Davinci in fury, her eyes watering and her body shaking.

“Oh, don’t look at me like that. You might make me want to hit the button on this remote again…” his eyes sparkled as he held up the remote that controlled the shock pads tucked up under Ava’s dress. Ava glared in anger for a moment longer, then dropped her eyes. The magician smiled. “That's what I thought. Well, hope you have a good trip.”

With that, the assistant came forward again and began rolling the wheel further backstage. Ava began to struggle against her bonds again, knowing full well that if she did not escape now she likely would never get the chance. Davinci waved the remote in her face as she struggled and pushed a button, sending another powerful shock into her body. This was the last message Ava needed. She hung limp, her body twitching as she began to sob, muted by the gag. Her body quivered as she was carefully rolled out of the back of the tent and towards a van. She knew that she should fight, but any attempt of escape would be met with unbelievable pain. The assistant rolled the wheel up inside the van with no resistance from Ava, then slammed the doors shut behind her.
