A dark caption.
Nalin Yoon, twenty-five, had just finished her Master's degree and was looking for a job, preferably in research. She was fascinated by the latest developments and her focus was healing up muscles and nerves after surgery.
So, while she was a bit surprised when a university sent her an e-mail and offered her a job, she, after checking them out and going through the interview process, readily agreed. What they were studying was right up her alley and the pay and the benefits were generous.
That would have alarmed her, the salary and the rest, but it was a well-known university with a program that was had done research in that field. Every check of them came back fine, so once the formalities were done she packed up everything she could reasonably take, sold the rest, and flew there as soon as she could.
She had gotten to her hotel (which the university agreed to pay the cost of while her apartment was getting ready) and decided to take a look around campus before meeting her boss and his staff tomorrow. She was dressed casually in a t-shirt, sneakers, and denim shorts, with stockings instead of socks (she liked the look). As she walked around campus, she decided, why not, she'd go in and at least see the building she was to be working at, if for no other reason so she didn't lose her way tomorrow.
She was a bit surprised at it. It looked and felt more like an office building than something you'd see on a college campus, with a reception desk and everything. She shrugged and went to go, figuring she had seen enough for her purposes. As she went to leave, she heard a voice.
"Miss Yoon!" A middle-aged man said, just loud enough for her to hear. She turned and she recognized him as the man who offered her the job, Dr. Nestor.
"Oh, hello Dr. Nestor!" She said with a smile. "Sorry about my appearance, I was just looking around campus before tomorrow."
"It's fine." He said with a smile. "In fact, I think this works better. Why don't I show you what you're here for now?"
"But, maybe when I look more, uh..."
"Don't worry about that at all. Trust me, it won't matter one bit."
She smiled and then agreed and they were soon past the reception and were in the elevator, which required a keycard to enter. The receptionist just shrugged, not realizing she was the last person to seen Nalin Yoon.
Brady sat in his apartment, a hand leaning against his nylon-clad knee as he looked over at Dr. Nestor.
"Tell me, what do you think?" Dr. Nestor asked.
"You've asked that several times already. I like it, but I guess my face doesn't show it, does it?"
"No, you are impossible to read, I must say. I am assuming everything feels right?"
"As right as it can, I think." Brady said. "So, what are you going to do when people come looking for her?"
"Looking for who?" Dr. Nestor asked with a laugh. "The hotel, flight, and other expenses were paid by a non-university account that isn't tied directly to us. The hotel only needed her boarding pass number for how it was booked, so no ID. All the correspondence came from burner devices and accounts, so no worries there. Her laptop and her phone are now ours. No, there won't be anyone looking for her here."
"People will talk and notice my new body. Very hard not to."
"Of course they will, but as our research does deal with certain 'propriety' technologies we can obstruct and delay until they give up, assuming that they don't buy our cover story for this body. No, you have little to worry about, unless you start to refer to yourself as Miss Yoon!"
