A dark caption.

Amelia Lowe walked into Doctor Harrington's office and saw him working on some paperwork. She waited for him to stop (she knew it was best to not interrupt him when he was writing), and before she could say a word once she saw him pause, he spoke instead.

"Amelia, good. Did the equipment come in today?"

"Yes, doctor." She said excitedly. "All of it, along with the chemicals you ordered."

"They did?" He said. He finally looked up, his attention now fixed at her. "All of them?"

"Yes!" She said excitedly. "This is not the best news. I received a call as well. It was our friend at the local clinic."

"Oh?" He asked, now interested.

"They apparently have had a success. Two in fact. A housemaid and a young banker. She may feel a bit out of sorts wearing men's suits from now on, which is a far better fate than the banker."

"Did they try?"

"They did, but it failed. The second was a small-time thief and a dancer at a theater of questionable moral standing. He too, will be all out of sorts. I do doubt that he wore stockings and dresses much before now."

"And her? Am I to assume they didn't try with her?"

"They did, but it was just as much of a failure. It seems for now it can only be done one-to-one for now."

"I see." He said. "Well, we best talk to them and see what they have to say about that."

"Do you want me to come with you?"

"Of course. This is at a critical stage. I can't do this without you."

They arrived at the old wing of the hospital, unlocking a door that had seen better days. This old wing was due to be torn down, but delays had kept it up far longer than anyone expected.

Both of them walked in and took the elevator to the third floor. They had found an area that was perfect. It was a large room that had been partitioned off and while the first part of the room seemed to be just an unused room, the rest of the rooms were very much in use.

As she opened a door for him, he smiled and looked her over. Her dress was an interesting choice today. She did have a bit of a gothic edge to her, not an odd thing he guessed if one was to do the sort of dark work they were engaged in.

They both walked into the room and were greeted by a tall, older man, who went to show them the rooms where the real work was. He motioned for them to follow and Amelia went first, with the doctor behind her.

She only realized she was being jabbed by a needle when it was already too late. When she felt it, the sedative was already in her veins. She turned and looked at Dr. Harrington. She wasn't a fool. She knew what was coming now that he had done that.

His face almost unreadable as she turned and faced him. He smiled slightly.

"Relax, I'll take good care of the rest of you." He said as she started to the ground, her legs losing strength.

It wasn't more than two hours later that he was ready to leave that place. He looked back at the real operating room as they shut the door, knowing that they'd take care of everything else.

He put a hand on the old operating table, then smiled. It almost looks like they should have done it here. That would be the trope, right? A dark room like this where the poor woman's head gets removed and the evil mad scientist's head get grafted onto her pretty body? That would be how it would go, right?

He laughed slightly as he pulled his feminine hand up, then gave the other gloved hand a feel of his leg, nothing more than quick brush just about the knee. Her outfit was both dark and pretty, and now she'd never get to wear it again. Well, he thought with a smile, that does depend slightly on how you look at this!
