Her phone could not have done this at the worst time. She was heading to meet a friend at his new place and her phone's GPS went all crazy. The strange thing was, she had never seen a glitch like this. She wondered if the app had been hacked or if her phone had been. Either way, she'd need to figure out a way to get to his place.
She got into the nearest town, a seemingly nice place of at least a few thousand people. She pulled up to parking spot beside the sidewalk in its small downtown and got out of her car. As she did, a tall, handsome, middle-aged man walked over to her.
"That's a nice car." He said with a smile. "It yours?"
"Bought and paid for." She said with a laugh. "Literally the only car I've ever taken serious care of."
"Well, she is a beauty." He said. "But, since you're parked beside an attorney's office and you don't look like you're going to see her..."
"I just parked here because it's a central point. I was going to ask around about an address."
"Oh? Why not just put it into your phone?"
"This is why." She held up her phone. Now it was showing some pink, purple, and light blue background along with some gibberish text."
"That the app or your phone?"
"I think the app, but I can't seem to get out of it. It doesn't want to reboot either. If I had more time I could get it working, but I do have to meet him pretty soon. I was wondering if anyone knew how to get to his road?"
"Which road is it?"
"McLaren Road."
"Yeah, it's easy. Wait, there's not a lot of houses on that street. What's his address?"
"861 McLaren."
"Oh, that's easy!" He said. "Just go down this street past the stoplight, then two more stop signs, then right at the four-way stop. Go two streets down until you hit a stop sign again and turn left. That's McLaren. It should be on the left."
"Oh, thanks!" She said with a smile. "Seriously, thank you!"
"Don't mention it!" He said. He started to walk away as she got into her car and drove off. She drove a little slow, making sure she didn't miss anything. There it was, McLaren. She kept driving, then saw a mailbox with an eight and a one, with a gap in the middle. This had to be it, right, she thought.
She pulled into the driveway and got out. It was older, a bit run-down, but he had said he was buying a fixer-up, so this supported that she had gotten the right house. She walked up to the front door and range the doorbell. When the doorbell opened, she went to scream but was pulled inside before she could utter a sound.
Marty still could not believe his luck. Luring her here for the transplant surgery was almost childishly easy. It was incredible she was looking for the one street name that applied to two different streets in town, McLaren Street and McLaren Drive, each on the other side of town from each other. Locals knew the difference and with GPS it was little issue. The fact that hers was doing, well, he had no idea and he didn't care in the slightest.
He looked around after leaving the house, his gait a little slow. He had been quite vigorous in thanking the doctor who had done the transplant surgery and maybe had overdone it a bit. Speaking of overdoing it, maybe he should go to her friend's place. He might as well spend some time with her, even if it's just what's below the neck!
