A dark caption.

Carol still did not understand what the land was being used for. A few months ago, she had rented out a few acres of her property, a bit of land that was too rocky to be used for farming to a man from a city a few hours away. Despite their rural location they weren't isolated at all, with a number of cites within a few hours of driving distance. Undoubtedly he said but she didn't really care, at least at the time.

It seemed like a good idea, leasing out some unused land to him. He understood he was responsible for the land's development and the costs associated with it and he would simply pay her about a thousand bucks a month. As long as he stayed within the bounds of the property (aside from jointly shared expenses to get him power and internet) he was basically free to do as he liked.

For the first few months, there were no issues at all. He seemed to be building three or four buildings, which was of no concern to her. As long as he didn't do anything commercial there, it was fine. Two seemed like a house and an attached garage, but the other two, from what she could see, were a bit more open to speculation.

It was only the last two months that she started to get concerned. Despite his assurances that he wasn't using it as a business, the one building clearly had more than him around. The damn thing, from what she could see, was four stories tall! No way he was just doing to for himself!

She then gathered her evidence, called an attorney, and monitored his activity. If anyone would have come to her house, they would not have seem any of this, it was only when one traveled past her wheat fields that one would have seen all of this. No one else due to distance and the woods his plot was would have seen a thing, even the driveway was discreet as could be. Only she and the attorney knew.

Finally, she went to go confront him. She walked past an old barn, a relic that marked where his leased land began on her property. She followed the old dirt drive the fifty yards into the woods and a further a hundred to where he was building all of this.

She saw him talking to a man who was definitely not a construction worker, the other man's build more that of an office worker. Both looked up when they realized her presence.

"So, Mr. Howard." She said, annoyed. "We had an agreement."

"I can assure you, Miss White, that this is not commercial in nature." He started. "At least not in the sense of a shop or an office."

"Then what the hell is it?"

"On that, I can explain further. If you'll follow me to the lobby here..."

"I thought you said it wasn't an office. If it's a hotel..."

"It is neither. If you'll follow me, I can show you exactly what we're going to do here. Once you see what it is, I can assure you that you will not say no to it."

She sighed, but she figured if he was willing to show him all of the evidence she needed to kick his ass off of the property... she agreed to it. Besides, she saw at least ten people, at least six of them construction workers. She figured she had little to worry about. He smiled and showed her inside.

It was the cusp of evening when Mr. Howard walked out to see how a team was doing constructing a better driveway. It had to both look inconspicuous and still be a much smoother ride than the current and unsatisfactory one. He saw them work, a hand on a womanly hip, and turned away. He walked past the barn, smiling at the landmark people would use to find the place. No other marker would be present.

He felt air start to cool and he smiled as he shivered slightly while he walked back to the main area. Soon his discreet facility would be ready, a place where he and his team could perform their propriety surgery in quietly and securely. He had hoped she'd be a fool and that she'd either just go along or he'd convince her to buy it outright but he had heard of her talking to a lawyer and her visit now dashed both of those possibilities. Lucky for him they could just use their surgery on her.

Quite unfortunate for her that surgery was a head transplant surgery, and one that only worked with one head to one body. As for why they didn't just "handle" her, well they might as well see if their facilities here were up to par and it did seem a shame to have such a nice go completely to waste...
