A dark caption.
Ada had from a young age been fascinated by all things strange and dark. It was confusing to her parents, conventional types that did not understand her interest. They did not get her interest in graveyards, in old surgical equipment, in curio shops that sold and displayed things that the decided no normal person should have the slightest interest in.
Well, she was twenty-eight now and, in fairness to her that wasn't exactly the deviant behavior her parents assumed it was. She, in fact, even managed to monetize her interest, documenting old places and things and doing walk-throughs that she then posted for views and sponsorships.
This last one was a juicy one, an old asylum a couple of cities over. It was a strange place even for asylums, past even the depressingly normal tales of abuse and neglect seemingly endemic in those places.
No, this place did human experimentation. While alarming to our sensibilities today, that wasn't exactly unheard of then, but what was unheard of was the type of experimentation. See, on patients they were said to have transplanted body parts. Rumors abounded of patients coming out with scars around theirs wrists, their one hand now much larger or smaller. Buried but still documented reports talked of arms or legs transplants (but none verified) and there were even reports of head transplants, with one story relating a nurse coming into the room of a sad woman only to find instead of her saturnine head it was that of a maniacal man!
She had no doubts that weird stuff had been done, and she went to investigate and do her normal documentation and video walkthrough. Who knows, maybe she'd find information that would bring all of that to light. At least shed some light on what this place had really done during those dark years.
Her walk around what was left of the grounds was uninteresting, as it was just a large building with a fair amount of development nearby. She went in, a member of a preservation society unlocking it for her, an old man who could not have looked less interested.
He went with her, as it was his job to make sure this stuff got preserved. She was welcome to use and bring out any evidence and records she could find with the understanding they were the society's property. She agreed and they went in.
She went down immediately into the basement, as she learned long ago that the most interesting things were in the places farthest away from prying eyes. She and him walked around, not needing flashlights for normal walking but needing them if she saw a detail or saw something of interest.
They got to a room, one with an operating table and a strange device on it. She went to ask but he didn't want for her.
"Chemical experimentation. Figuring out what drugs would do what to a patient to keep them compliant." She could hear his almost practiced tone. He had done this more than a few times before.
She looked around the room, them saw the tiniest of gleams. It was almost imperceptible with the light on, so she had him turn the light off and she shined her flashlight.
There it was! She laughed and nearly squealed with delight, realizing that there was something hidden behind that door!
"Mr. Landis, I think we've found some-"
She only realized it was a syringe by the time the plunger had been pressed down all the way. She turned and looked at him, a sad look on his face.
"I didn't really think you'd find it. No one else has. It's really amusing, we were looking for someone for our latest experiment and here you are. We hadn't planned on it today, mind you, not with you here, but tomorrow or the next day, after you had gone and we could be sure that no one else would be sniffing around."
She tried to run, but it was no use, whatever he injected her with was too strong and she was hanging off of the operating table. He walked over to her put her on it, setting her down gently.
"I didn't want it to be you. Someone, but not you. This, this though solves two issues at once." He looked over at her and saw the hate in her eyes. "I assure you, most of you will be in good care. My care."
As he spoke, the wall recessed back and slid open, revealing a much more modern room with someone in scrubs and several advanced machines.
"Okay, time to go in." He said as she passed out.
Later that night, he watched the wall slide back to its normal spot, that tiny gap now massive in his mind. He'd have to see what they could do about that, he thought as he stood beside the old operating table.
As he did, he moved a feminine hand down and scratched his knee, smiling as he felt his hairless leg and the fishnet stockings she was wearing. She did have a wonderful body it would be perfect for him. Young, strong enough, he could easily see himself growing to love his new womanly body. He might as well. She was no longer in a position to do so.
