A dark caption.
"You had something you wanted to show me?" Ann said, showing Marilyn to a seat on the couch. Marilyn smiled, but took a seat on a nearby chair.
"This will work better if I use the chair." Marilyn said, taking out a deck of cards from her purse.
"Decided you're a magician after that bump on your head?" Ann asked with a smile. Marilyn had been acting a bit off lately since all of that. Not bad, just odd. Forgetting things. Odd changes. Nothing huge, but things that when you added them up did point to the idea that the hit was a bit harder than what she was letting on.
"More like something I've been interested in for a while but never had the courage to do until now. It might have taken that little bump to make me realize that you might as well not wait to try new things."
"Okay, that is fair." Ann said, now feeling a little bad that she poked a bit of fun. Marilyn just smiled. "Sorry."
"Don't be! I know this hasn't been easy for people, but I might as well get this stuff going now while everyone is still a bit more tolerant than they would be otherwise. Anyway, the trick."
Marilyn took a deck of cards out of her purse, smiled, and shuffled them. She then drew up twelve cards and had then facing Ann.
"So, pick one." Marilyn said. Ann smiled, picking on "Now, don't tell me which one you picked. Put it back in another spot and I'll shuffle this all into the deck again.
Ann put it back three cards from her left, and Marilyn smiled as she put the cards into the deck and shuffled. She then took the top card off and showed it to her.
"That's not my card." Ann said with a bit of a grin.
"That's fine. You know what magic is, right?"
"No, what is it?"
"Misdirection. And so was what I just did."
"What?" She asked as she felt a gloved hand cover her mouth and then felt her arm get twisted. Marilyn smiled as she took a syringe out, got it ready, and injected it into Ann's arm.
"Oh, those memory losses? That odd behavior? I never had those memories or ever behaved that way in my life. See, this wasn't an accident."
Ann heard all this as she started to feel tired, then lightheaded, her body becoming weak.
"No, not an accident. My real name is Jack and Marilyn hasn't been in this body since that day. So, you might be wondering, why do this? What's the point? Well, I know a few men who need to disappear after a set of crimes and this little community is perfect. What better cover than being the good little wives of the successful men around here? Too bad there's not enough room in your head for two brains, so you'll have to go."
At that, Ann looked up, her face a mask of horror. Marilyn, or really this Jack, was serious. She tried to struggle, but it was no use. She was too weak now and the man far too strong.
"Oh, don't worry your little head. Your husband will be well cared for. At least, until we no longer have a use for him. Sweet dreams, bitch."
