A damn dark caption.

She sat at the library, her legs crossed, her plaid skirt hung gracefully around her feminine legs as she looked at the local paper. It was the biggest newspaper in the area. It would definitely have the story.

She took a hand and adjusted the neck on her turtleneck sweater, loosening a spot so it was a little more comfortable. A smile spread across her face as she put her hand back on the paper, gave it a shake, and looked through it.

She checked the front page and saw nothing about it. Not surprising, something quite so lurid as this would likely not grace the front page. A respectable paper didn't put such ghastly things right at the front like some cheap yellow journalism, no, they'd put it a few pages in! Page two and three yielded nothing, but that was not surprising either, at least not for this paper. Pages four and five were given mostly to editorials and little else, so nothing there. It was only when page six was hit that a single column of half-a-page was found with the headline "human remains found".

She read the article. It stated that found in the forest outside the city a hunter found human remains and that police were looking for any leads as to the origin of these remains.

Albert smiled and giggled a little as he read it, taking a hand away from the paper and brushing some of Audrey's hair back, revealing a little more of the incision and the staples along what used to be her forehead. "Human remains" he thought. They didn't want to say it, did they? They couldn't bring themselves to say they found a fucking brain, could they? He had to laugh at their restraint, though maybe it wasn't out of the need to be respectable. After all, not releasing those details and then having someone come to you with them does let you know if you're dealing with someone who knows something and just a pathetic attention-seeker, doesn't it? He folded the paper back up, then stood up, smoothing out his skirt, checking his hose to see if there were any runs, and then putting the paper back in its place and walking quietly out of the library.

As he adjusted to the sunlight, he could not help but wonder what they were expecting to hear. He wondered if he should go in and tell them the whole sordid ordeal. How he kidnapped her. How he worked for mad scientist and that scientist took out his brain, took out hers, put his brain in her body, and just didn't bother to with her. How they cremated his body and realizing they had forgotten to do the same with her brain had tossed it in the woods hoping the animals would get to it.

He wondered if they'd believe that. Probably not, he thought, even though he knew that it was the truth!
