Mrs. Neill could not take her eyes off of her boss. No matter what she did, no matter how much she willed herself to turn, to avert her gaze, to do something, she found it almost impossible to do anything but look right at him.
Of course, she knew exactly why that was so difficult at the moment. It couldn't be due to the fact that his old, wrinkled head and neck was somehow attached to the body of a woman in a skirt suit, could it? No, it had to be something else, she thought, no, couldn't be that!
She inwardly chuckled at her own little joke. It helped buy her a little bit of sanity, not that sanity would help here. Nothing would change the facts of the matter, that her boss was acting like nothing was amiss, everything was normal and here he was in a skirt and high heels!
Worst, she thought to herself, was that no one else seemed to be perturbed by this. They all seemed unbothered, almost resigned to this new development, like it was just the most normal thing in the world. This was not normal. An eighty year-old man's head on the body of a woman who couldn't be older than thirty was not normal.
As she stood there, she knew she was staring, she knew it would be noticed, and the more she realized just how long she had been, she got more and more nervous. God, she thought, what do I do?
