Keith and Daniel had gone to the high end restaurant, casino, and nightclub to talk some business. After a productive and delicious dinner, they both went to one of the two bars, the one in the restaurant. It was both a apart of the restaurant but was set up to be almost its own discreet area, a place more subdued than the nightclub where patrons could mingle as they saw fit.
Keith was the first to notice her. She was tall, and she had a very fetching style to her hair. Her dress was sultry but not lacking in class, a modern take on elegance, much more suited to his tastes than the more conservative styles that some of the older patrons here wore. Those heels too were top of the line, and her choice of gloves was superb, as it looked perfect with the outfit. The only issue with her appearance was that scar or cut on her head, but one can't be faulted for an accident, could they?
She looked around, smiling, taking a sip of her drink, scanning the room. He wondered if she was reading the room, and he had to laugh. She was definitely reading the room, but he wasn't sure as to why. There was a purpose, though, and he was now curious.
He excused himself from Daniel, explaining what he was going to do.
"See if she has a friend." Daniel said as Keith went to go to her.
"Daniel, if she does, I doubt you'd want to meet him."
He meant it, too. She could be a con artist or a thief. Regardless, he now needed to know.
He ordered a drink himself and meandered around a few minutes, trying to make it not obvious it was her he wanted to speak to. About five minutes after he got his drink, he managed to get himself near to her.
She turned and looked at him, seeing him coming, he now realized.
"Hello." She said with a sultry inflection in her voice. "Talking business with your friend?"
"We were earlier." He said. He saw no point in hiding, plus their suits gave them away. Besides, he was curious to see where this went.
"Oh, what do you do? Advertising? Finance? Automotive? No, second largest plumbing outfitter in the tri-state area." That last one was obviously meant as a joke, a way to either break the ice or throw him off of the trail for her line of questioning, However...
He knew that phrase. He had heard it before. Wait, that look, the way those eyes narrowed, that focus, he had also seen that before. And then there was that cut, which he now saw was definitely more than just a simple flesh wound. He had been assigned to a battalion aid station in '52. He had seen stuff like that.
"Eddie." Keith said. It wasn't a question.
The woman in front of him eyes widened and regained her composure just a second later. It was one second too much.
"So, you really did know a doctor who could let you keep grifting." Keith said.
"I guess there's no point in hiding that, Keith." Eddie said with a sexy smile. "She got what she wanted and I got what I wanted. Now, if you'll excuse me, there's an executive from an airline who will not stop flashing his cash and I think it is fair time he spent some of it on me!"
Eddie took a step, then smiled, and kissed Keith softly on the cheek.
"Bye, babe. Look me up if you ever want to give up business and go in with me in some honest work!"
