"Mrs. Daly?"

"Yes?" Mrs. Daly asked as she turned. She took a sip of her tea and set it down on her desk, then put the files on a clear space.

"Yes, good." Her boss said with a smile. "You've been an excellent employee for me. Very good work, always on time, and I think it is time to reward you."

"Why, thank you sir!" She said, beaming. She had hoped her good work would eventually get noticed.

His smile got more broad as he stood in front of her.

"So, I have a way to do just that. It's a new assignment. It will be harder, more of a challenge, but research asked me for someone and I told them you'd be perfect. What do you say?"

"Yes!" She said. "I'm glad you recommended me to research! I've heard they're working on some impressive things over there!"

"Indeed they are, and you will be a big part of that! In fact, you're going to be a huge part of one of their projects, at least one aspect of it."

"That would be great! When do I start?"

"They want to see you right away. Told me time waits no one."

"I'll be right down and thank you again!" She said with a smile.

He smiled darkly as he saw her walk away. He walked over to a phone, picked it up, and dialed a number. It rang once and a voice came over.

"She's coming?"

"Anytime."

Mr. Miller took a few steps, his pace slow, his movements measured but uncertain.

"I guess it is a good a time as any to learn to walk in these." Mr. Miller said to the doctor. "I'll be doing it a lot from now on."

"At least you got the better end of it. Think about where her head and your body are right now."

"Oh, I know, and I'm not complaining, not truly. Just that I find myself wondering how much of an adjustment it will be. Was it easy to get her to agree to this?"

"You mean the lie we told her?" The doctor said with a laugh. "Too easy."

Mr. Miller winced. The man seemed to have no guile, a bad trait given what they were doing.

"I heard you told her she'd be a big part of the experiment. Is that true?"

"Oh yes!"

"I thought it might be." His smile grew. "Well, I doubt she expected her contribution to be from below the neck, but well, here we are now and it's too later to change a thing!"
