Sandy and Cathy were walking in the park, talking about recent events. About the riots, the election, the war, it seemed that the world was going crazy all of a sudden. Well, nothing much they could do besides protest, Sandy said, with Cathy responding that she have the time to either protest or become a mathematician but not both.
Sandy laughed that that. At least your job involved an office and not gunshot wounds, to which Cathy replied there was always room for another mathematician.
"Pass." Sandy said with a laugh as they rounded the corner of a small building.
What they saw made both of them stop cold. There was a woman sitting on the bench and at first they thought she was just a woman in a dress smiling. At first, they paid her little attention until they got a bit closer. Then, only when they were close enough, did they notice she wasn't actually sitting down on the bench. Somehow, she was mimicking the act of sitting but was actually a couple of inches off of the bench. Not only that but they caught sight of her forehead.
"That's some Frankenstein stiches." Cathy whispered. Sandy looked at her, her face pale.
"It literally is. Those are real. That's not make-up." She whispered as she maneuvered Cathy in another direction. She didn't know what was going on, but she didn't want to be around for whatever it was.
Michael waited a few more seconds and heard a "got it" from a nearby bush. He then stood, his leg weak, pulling the small stand that blended in with the bench well enough to not be easily seen.
"God, that was painful." Michael said, rubbing his leg up and down. "Do you know how hard it is Ritchie to maintain a pose like that?"
"Hard?"
"Hard."
Michael walked over to the bushes and helped Ritchie grab the film camera and the rest of the gear.
"Why did you want that shot, anyway?" Michael asked.
"A bit of uncanny horror. Something that is off, but not instantly off. Given your, condition, I thought it'd be a neat shot to add to our project."
"Speaking of horror, did you see those two women? I think it worked."
"Well, then we have our first test audience! Think we can ask them what they thought?"
"Since they're long gone, no. At least that's over with. I need to change into some jeans and regular shoes."
"But you look so good in these!"
"You wear them, then."
"Not quite right for them, I think."
"I didn't used to be either, but that experiment at college... well, you know the rest. Anyway, why don't I change and we grab a bite and you can actually try to explain just what the hell sort off film you say you're making?"
