This one is really damn dark.

As the funeral ended a figure in a short dress stood in the back. Not in the front, the barely-concealed whispers pointed out. Further whispered spoke of other things, such as the lack of tears in those pretty eyes. In fact, they all noticed, she seemed not to have any grief at all. All throughout the funeral and the burial there seemed to be an undercurrent there, an poorly hidden elation that everyone caught onto.

Unseemly. Disgraceful. Cruel. Gold digger. Manipulative. Those were some of the words heard about Mara Glover, Thomas Glover's much younger wife. Finally, as the casket was in the ground and dirt was starting to fill the grave a click of the heels could be heard before anyone else had left.

Thomas Glover had to keep from laughing the whole time. Well, he thought, they could be right and wrong at the same time. They were right, she wouldn't have cared one bit. She married him with one purpose, and that was to collect his wealth when he died. He knew that and he suspected she was aware of his knowledge.

What she didn't know was that this was exactly what he wanted. He wanted her to "convince" him to sign it all over to her. He wanted her to be unseemly in her desire for his wealth. It made everything else so much easier to arrange.

When he knew she was comfortable in her waiting for his demise, he could put the rest of his own plan into motion. Getting the medical team together. The payoffs, the equipment, arranging for all of the little details that would make this work.

So, when she heard him coughing badly, she was convinced it was the end and was right by his side, allowing him to inject her with a syringe. From there all he had to do was make a call and it was put into motion. Soon after, his brain was safely in her skull and her brain, well, who cared where it was, probably put into his body. Might as well, that way everything is disposed of at the same time.

He kept walking, looking for the person he was supposed to meet. He came into view, a tall, handsome man of twenty-five who was more than aware that it wasn't Mara's brain in that beautiful head of hers. As they got close, Mara leaned in and kissed him, no attempt to hide, no urge to conceal with just had happened. Thomas then turned and looked, seeing a couple of people in the small crowd looking at them with a shocked look on their faces.

Thomas smiled. It would be fun to play the part of the unrepentant gold digger. At least the unrepentant part was right!
