A dark caption. Also, I do realize how incredibly unlikely the doctor's "solution" will work, but as I don't feel like writing a full short story of this I am leaving it unsaid.
The plan almost went awry before it could begin. The team was there, the operating room was prepared, and the "volunteer" was unconscious and on the second operating table. They were ready to begin...
...But a new nurse had gone to the wrong operating room, having gotten lost in the hospital on just her third day there. She stopped, and it took her a quick moment to realize that no one should be there and that whatever was happening here it shouldn't be happening.
She turned but she failed to notice a member of the team with a syringe, so focused she was on the rest of the scene in front of her. She never had a chance to scream as he jabbed it into her neck and she went limp. As she was lifted up and put onto another table, an elderly doctor smiled.
"So, what do we do about her?" A surgeon asked, the worry in his voice very apparent.
"Oh, I have an idea. We're all here, the equipment is all here, and the proper 'disposal' is already set up. I'll get ready."
Later that day, Edward and the elderly doctor were sitting on Edward's recovery room bed talking about the surgery and the recovery process. Edward was scratching at his ear as he asked a question not related to his recovery.
"So, about you, doctor, I didn't know this had been done before."
"Oh, it has, you are not the first, but if you're asking about my current situation, that was a bit unexpected. A non-medical issue came up in your surgery. It was resolved quickly and how you currently find me is a product of that resolution."
"I see." Edward said with a smile. "It's nice, isn't it?"
"Indeed it is, Edward. Indeed it is."
