A dark caption.
"I promise, you pay, you'll see their faces again." The man said.
Nate Wilms believed that. He had to. The police had run out of options and negotiation had only seemed to stall things, so he was told to pay. Three million, in three duffel bags. They would be left in an unused dumpster in an alleyway. Once it was left, further instructions were to be given.
The police hated the idea, but they agreed to it. So much could go wrong and there would be no indication that they'd even give the his wife and daughter back. However, he had little choice in the matter. The police would sit on the money, monitoring it for any activity, expecting them to move quickly once it was delivered.
He walked into the alley and dropped the money into the dumpster and inside he saw a burner phone. He heard it start to ring and he picked up.
"Nate!" His wife's voice said before a gruff man's voice come over the phone.
"They're being dropped off at the corner of Monmouth and Harrison."
"Are they unharmed?"
"Mostly. They tried to escape, but we might have left some surprises if they tried. Each has a good-sized cut on their heads, but we got it disinfected and stapled up. Otherwise they're fine. Bye."
The call ended and he rushed over there, two officers in tow. They were surprised, actually, when they found them standing right where they were supposed to be dropped off, unharmed save for the previously-mentioned cuts. He embraced them, almost in tears, very happy to see them safe. A trip to the hospital confirmed their good health, with an inspection of the staples revealing someone with good medical care. They would leave them in, preferring to let them heal as there was no obvious issue.
It was three days later and Nate needed to go to the police station to talk to them. They had sat on the money for the last three days but to their shock no one had gone near it, no a person. That struck everyone as very strange. They should have moved on it in some way by now. As he left, he walked past his wife and daughter in the kitchen talking, both in nice dresses, pantyhose, and high heels. He had known that something like this makes someone behave a bit differently for a time, plus those cuts on their heads, maybe there was more than what the doctor's thought. He put that aside, as they were safe and the money was the far more pressing issue.
As they heard his car back away, Rick and Steve smiled darkly at each other. This was all too easy. Finding himself, despite his attempts to hide his wealth was simple and those two women were so used to going flying under the radar they had no idea what to do in the event of something like an abduction. Once there, it was all a matter of fake demands and stalling while they got the doctors in there for the brain transplant surgery and for them to dispose of their former bodies and these bodies former brains before agreeing to whatever terms sounded right.
Soon, they'd give it a few months, the beloved husband and father would have an "accident" and they'd inherit all that wealth. From there, they would be two attractive women with wealth and no attachments. The sky would be the limit.
