A dark caption.

The woman looked up from her notes to see Miss Kolchak walk into the office. Miss Kolchak sat down calmly, but the nervousness was obvious on her face. She was just twenty-five and she hadn't yet fully developed the poker face needed for a situation like this.

"You wanted to see me, Mrs. Sellers?" Miss Kolchak asked.

"Yes, I did. It seems you are underperforming. Missed deadlines, mistakes in your work, not to mention attendance. Is there a reason for this?"

"Uh, it is challenging work." Miss Kolchak offered. "Maybe certain things were a bit more clear..."

The older woman smiled a strange smile, not dark, but little mirth and it didn't get to her eyes.

"I think the issue is a bit more obvious than that. You are simply not cut out of this job. It is, well, not everyone is, and that's okay. We can try to reassign you. I'm sure that marketing could use another hand."

"No, please, I was in marketing before here, I, is there something else we can do?"

"Well, now that you mention it," the older woman said. "I have some forms here. Sign them and you'll be put on a new assignment. Maybe the issue is one of misplaced talent. A specialized fast track. Would you be interested in that instead?"

Miss Kolchak, by her expression, could not believe her luck. She readily agreed, signing the forms as quickly as she could. As she did, a tall, older man walked into the office and stood beside the door. When she finished signing the older man spoke.

"If you will follow me, we'll get you situated in your new role."

She happily walked out of the office and as she did, a dark smile spread across that fortyish face. That was too easy, Mr. Landis thought. At least with Mrs. Sellers it had taken real effort, a good corporate strong-arming to convince her to go with him as she started an unwelcome career path. Granted, that "career path" ended the moment she got into that unmarked room in R&D.

They all saw her walk out, a fresh scar and incision on her head and no one dared question why that was. He smiled at that. That was really her fault, her reputation as tough working against anyone finding out the true. Not that it would have helped her by then, that part of her was gone by that point, but at least someone might have realized the truth, that Mrs. Sellers had been gone for a month and Mr. Landis taken over her role and her body. Soon, Mr. Landis knew, Miss Kolchak would meet the same fate, but it was okay, she'd be seen again but with Mr. Heller's brain inside of that pretty little head of hers!
