A dark caption.

Detective Carly Soren did not like where this case was leading. Not one bit.

She walked into the door of the company already uneasy, wondering if having an officer or another detective with her would make things better. No, she thought, it likely would add nothing or even make things worse. A lot of the detectives were used to more street-level crime and handling cases like this required a bit more tact and strategy than a lot of them were used to.

This place, she thought as she walked up to the reception desk, was odd to her. She had dealt with large companies before, but this place wasn't big, rather it was a niche company that dealt with cutting-edge medical tech. It made things difficult. Word would travel fast that she had been here and she'd have to feel things out and move quickly once she found a good lead.

She hoped that wouldn't be hard, after all, she doubted more than a small handful of people could be involved. Most people would never want to touch something like this with a ten foot pole. Undoubtedly no one was supposed to find those two heads and that body, and if it wasn't for another driver being stupid at a red light they would have probably never had a bit of heat on them.

All the whispers, the interview with the driver, and the strange leads of people who gave just enough to bring her here and she was sure it was the right place. Now, she didn't quite believe the guessed-at reason. Head transplants? Really? Probably they're stealing organs and dumping what they didn't need from that person, if she had to guess. Sure, they might tell someone who found out too much that, especially if they're the gullible type, but there was no actual way they were doing that. That wasn't even a thing.

Her first stop was security and she was there mostly to feel out how they reacted around her. Her questions and their answers were not her main concern.

Her visit there was cordial and she knew immediately that they knew, at least the supervisor did. That was a good sign, she thought, and she asked about if they do transplant research. His reaction was subtle, but she did see it. So, they are doing something with organ transplants. She then asked to see who was in charge of that and he agreed to take her to him.

She walked into the room and when the door was closed behind her she was immediately hit by a stun gun. As she groaned, slumping down to the floor, she realized how badly she had screwed up not bringing an officer with her.

"They'll come looking for me. They'll see I never left here." She said.

"Oh, they'll see your ass go out there door." The man said. "I assure you of it."

It was later in the day, just into evening, when he was ready to make his trip outside. He walked out of his little area of research and was handed a wig of the same color and style as the detective. He put it on, adjusting it for it to look like her hair, and he took a side entrance to her car.

He got in, smiling as he realized he didn't have to adjust the seat, and drove about twenty blocks away to a worse part of town and parked her car. He then got out, tossed her keys in the car, and left it there as a car pulled up to him and he got into the passenger's seat.

He told her the truth a few hours back he thought with a smile, omitting to mention that only most of her would be leaving in that manner. The rest of her would be taking a trip, the same trip other victims had taken before their disposal vehicle was hit by that idiot a few days ago...
