Jane walked into the lab, still surprised even after all of these months how futuristic it looked. She smiled a bit and chuckled about that. So did the the ideas of the 1950's and look how they look to us now, she thought as she sat down at her desk and booted up her computer. She was just in for some work in office part of the lab, no actual testing or experimentation. So, it was a surprise when she heard some sounds coming from a nearby room. More surprising, it was where several advanced prototypes were kept, and she saw the door open and a figure run out. She saw long black hair and a glimpse of a thin, angular, pretty face that she recognized as Robin and watched in surprise as she saw her dart into their boss's office. She got up and walked quickly over to the door, but found it locked. That shouldn't be, only her boss's keycard could lock or unlock that door.
As she tried to talk to Robin through the door, hearing only a a very faint sobbing and cursing, she realized that something was off about how Robin had been moving. Was she injured? She seemed slower, her posture somehow different than the normally almost rigid posture Robin normally had.
She was thinking of calling security when she heard her boss's voice quietly and calmly ask for Robin. Jane knew that Robin could not possibly hear him, and she responded instead.
"It's Jane out here. Robin is in your office."
"Jane? Damn it, why are you here?"
"Late night work!" She said with a snap. "What are you two doing in here? What's wrong with Robin? Are, uh, are you okay?"
At that, her boss's voice softened.
"I'm sorry, just, there's been an accident. The AM-38 malfunctioned."
"Oh no."
Jane went to the room and walked in, putting her hands to her mouth in shock as she did, her knees bent as her body reacted with surprise. Her boss looked at her, shook his head, and grumbled.
"She was going to a costume party, and I just had to ask her to stop by before for a quick briefing when... well, I don't know the how or the why yet, but please call security for me, if you would, and run point on this? I, I feel just too ridiculous to do so myself and, given by your expression, I think you can now understand why!"
