"A toast, Miranda!" Geoff said as she got to the bar. He was holding up a glass of sparkling wine and had his hand at her spot in front of the bar.
"What are we toasting, Grandpa?" She asked. She knew, but she wanted him to say it. She felt he should.
"To my health!" He said, ,raising his glass and taking a sip.
"You're supposed to wait for someone to toast as well." She quipped.
"True, but we have all night and we're going to be toasting to this all night, so I might as well start now!" He said with a smile, turned to face her as she sat down beside him.
She looked him up and down and smiled in approval.
"Very nice outfit. How are you doing with the heels?" She asked.
"Honestly?"
"Yeah."
"God, I don't know how you women walk in these fucking things!" He said with a laugh. "I know now why Beatrice never wore them, always wore flatter shoes. Stupid of me to only figure that out now."
"Well, you know now." Miranda said, smoothing out her purple dress as she ordered a whiskey sour. "Besides, you talk of women wearing them, almost like you're not one yourself now."
"You're right. You are right!" He said, draining his glass and ordering another. "That's going to take a while for me, at least how I refer to myself. I think I'm doing pretty well in that regard otherwise."
"My mom helped you out, right?"
His eyes narrowed, and then he smiled and laughed.
"Okay, yes, you caught me, but I took her advice. So, do you like it? You never said."
"I love it, and I," she looked over at another table. "A guy over there does as well."
"A guy?" He asked, surprised.
"You're surprised? With that body?"
"And this head." He added.
"Fair!" She laughed. "I guess he's more of a T and A man. In case you're wondering..."
"I know, I used to ogle women all the time in my younger days. Weird from the other side, but, he can just watch. Here, we're celebrating, and we're not going to stop until we can't see straight! Sound good!"
She smiled and polished off her whiskey sour.
"Sounds great to me!"
