So, the case didn't take the turn I was expecting. I had been following this woman, pretty thing, a dancer with a high kick that could touch the moon. No, I wasn't some pervert looking to get his kicks in a weird way, I was investigating her. There had been some... strange things going on in this city as of late and my task was to follow her around and see if anyone paid her any notice. Well, besides me of course.
Who was paying? They never said, but given where we met I'm guessing they either owned the joint she danced at or she was important to them in some way. She danced at a high-end place, not some seedy "gentlemen's club" where not a single man in there fit that description and the person I met seemed to be a bit higher on the social ladder than yours truly, so when the check cleared I was on it.
The first two days were routine. The third, there were a couple of guys who seemed a bit on the strange side but nothing I could really put my finger on.
No, it was the fourth day before anything happened of real note and it happened so fast there was little I could do. She was walking in through an alley entrance during the day and normally there was a guy outside with a truncheon and a .38 special to discourage any funny business. Today, to my surprise, no guy and the door didn't open for her. I immediately realized something was up and I had my piece ready.
Well, so did the guy who I never heard until he cocked the hammer back. I had to drive her and I and we were brought into this old place, looked like an asylum that hadn't had a patient in years. We were led into a room, then I feel this needle in my neck.
The next thing I know, I'm in my back office, she's out in front crying and I'm standing there with her hands on her hips wearing an outfit that you could not do a kick in. As I stand there, I then realize I was never meant to keep watch over her. No, whoever this was, they didn't want me there to help her, they just wanted another test subject, one that they could snatch up with her. Those first few days were just to gauge my reactions, how I handled myself before they knew how to go about it. I broke out into a smile and laughed! Whoever did this, they played me for a fool and they handily won!
