Dominic was walking down the street in the new town. He had just gotten here and was walking the street. After everything, he just needed to get away from his old job, his old town. As for his family and friends, well, they could visit him here. Them he welcomed, but the everything else could stay behind.
As he walked, he heard a chipper voice to his left . He saw a pretty woman, just a little older than he was, he guessed, dressed nicely for this bright day, and she seemed to be looking at him.
"Oh, I love that outfit!" She said, stopping when he got beside her and then walking beside him when kept walking.
"Uh, thanks." He said, blushing a little. He kept his face neutral. He figured she'd notice the situation rather quickly, but so far she hadn't seemed to.
"Oh yes, very nice. Anyway, sorry, I didn't introduce myself, I'm Cindy, you are?"
"Uh, Dominic." He said.
"Odd name for a woman!" She said with a smile. "Though maybe a nickname. Of course, you do have, oh, is this rude, a more masculine look to your face, and your hair! It isn't without its charm, though."
"Yes, I guess." He said. Any second now...
"Oh, uh, ohhh!" Her gaze fixated on the stitches around his neck. "Uh, okay, so that is probably not cosmetic, I should think. Did you have surgery?"
Here it is, he thought.
"I did. This isn't my original body. It was, they have a more technical name for it, but it was a head transplant surgery. They put my head onto a donor body to save my life. She was, they never told me what happened to her, but she was brain-dead. Sorry if that's a very weird or a downer, but that's why I was so reserved. A lot of people don't really want to talk after that."
"Well, I sure do!" She said, her smile even bigger now. "This just makes you interesting! Do you know how rare they are in this town? Come on, there's an ice cream shop right there. Why don't we each grab some and you can tell me more?"
Huh, he thought as she motioned him to follow her to the shop. He shrugged and smiled. Fuck it, why not?
