Something was off. Mona was sure of it. She had these feelings before throughout her time at college and grad school and each time she had this feeling there had always been a good reason for it. She didn't know what it was, but there was something just wrong about the situation.
The problem was, there wasn't much she could do about this. She was by herself and the nearest friend was at least a half-hour away and at work. She could duck into a shop nearby, but what good would that do?
What she could do, she decided, was get into her car, drive to a busy place with a busy parking lot, and go inside for a bit. At least there she could feel out the situation and see if this sense of imminent danger passed.
She'd do that, she decided. Luckily, her car was only one block away. It would be nothing to get there. All she needed to do was cross this street and she'd be off driving in two or three minutes.
She only saw the van pull up to the stop sign after she was halfway across and by the time she saw the door open, it was too late. She was pulled in and it drove away in an unassuming manner. No one saw her get grabbed. No one saw a thing.
Marcus had a smile on his face as he walked toward his car, careful to keep his balance. His new body felt and moved different than his old male one, and he had to adjust. He nodded at a man in the driver's seat, who put the engine on as Marcus went to the passenger's side, opened the door, and got in. he closed the door, looked at the man in the driver's seat, and then laughed.
"Think she knew we were watching her?" Marcus asked the other man.
"Given how she was walking, yeah. She knew something was up. Definitely not what, but she could feel something was wrong."
"Well, her concerns were valid." Marcus said. "Too bad they didn't help her one bit!"
