"You're doing so well, Juan!" Allison said as they sat on the park bench together. "How do you feel?"
"Good!" He said. "I hate that my body is the literally younger than my daughter. Seriously, I never wanted to be twenty-one again, but here I am."
"You hate it?" Allison asked.
"I hate the age thing, but the rest I don't mind so much. Eva has been so good with helping me, so have you. You know I'm grateful, right?"
"Yeah, I do." She said. "Don't worry, I didn't take it the wrong way. You're okay."
"Thank you for understanding." He said softly. "I, I am glad we can meet, but I do need to head out. Eva wants to grab some food and she wants to talk about her boyfriend. Same time next week?"
"Yes!" She said with a laugh. "You know I will!"
"Great." He said, getting up. "See you then."
He got up and she had to just take the sight of him in. He was doing great. Another person would have given up, or melted down, but not him. He was resilient, and more than that, he seemed to be happy with it, at peace with it at the very least. Good, she thought. Good.
