A dark caption.

Elizabeth had gotten an odd invitation. It was for a weekend at a lodge a couple of hours away. She was confused by this at first, wondering just who would have invited her and what the reason was. Curious, she checked their website, finding that they did have a list of events and one was for that weekend, a single's getaway.

She rechecked the invitation, realizing she had missed that was being invited as a guest of Bernice Cawthorn. She relaxed at that. She knew Bernice pretty well, and decided to attend. Who knows, maybe it would be fun.

She got there and stepping out of her car she wondered if she was mistaken. This could not be the place right? She walked into the lodge, and was greeted by a very nice interior and a friendly receptionist that greeted her.

"So, about the outside..." Elizabeth started.

"Oh, it is deliberately styled like that. All cosmetic, I assure you. The owners wanted it to look that way. Truthfully, I'm not quite sure why, it tends to surprise guests, but trust me, it is all for show."

"Odd, but okay." Elizabeth said as she got her room key. "So, what is this exactly, this getaway? Do you know?"

"No, I'm just here to check everyone in and provide services. I'm not sure as to who exactly arranged all of this. Anyway, your room is on the second floor."

"You might not know, but how many people are attending?"

"Oh, twenty in total, ten men and ten woman, and right now, we're... ah, you're the last guest to arrive. Perfect!"

"Okay, uh, thanks." Elizabeth said as the woman started to type on her computer. She started to walk down the hallway and as she did, she saw a room open up. It was Bernice, smiling as she walked over to hug Elizabeth.

"Hey!" Bernice said. "Good to see you and thank you!"

"God to see... uh, you're welcome?" Elizabeth said, confused.

"For the invite. Nice place on the inside. I don't know how you found out about this..."

"Uh, I thought you invited me. You didn't?"

At that, both of them stopped talking and their friendly expressions both turned to ones of concern.

"Oh no." Bernice said. Elizabeth dropped her bag and they made for the exit. She tried the door to find it locked, the receptionist nowhere to be found. Bernice looked around to see if she could break a window with something and as they did, they heard a door open. An elderly, well-dressed man walked out, a darkly amused expression on his face.

"Well, I told them someone would figure it out quickly. I guess it had to be you two first."

It was now afternoon and the elderly man walked out of the lodge, the doors now unlocked. There was no need to lock them now, he knew. He walked to her car to grab her other bags, hoping she'd have more interesting clothes like what he had found in her first bag. Obviously she had wanted to look good for someone, and that outfit certainly accomplished it. Her body wore it well, he thought, though now her had his head instead of hers!
