"You're taking a selfie?" Edwin asked.
"Not exactly," Vincent said. "I'm taking a pic with the two of us. A suggestion from my daughter, showing off progress, a way to build confidence."
"I see." Edwin said, not really believing that. "So how many of these photos do you have?"
"Just a handful, but an old colleague deserves one, I think. Besides, I'm the most attractive woman you've talked to all day."
"Damn it, Vince!" Edwin said. His voice sounded angry, but Vincent knew that tone. Edwin wasn't angry at all, just a bit miffed at Vincent getting a decent line in.
"We both knew it's true!" Vincent said, putting his phone down and looking over with a smile. "How are the kids and the wife?"
"They're great. Lisa will graduate college in a semester, Jake is on leave in a few days, and Aubrey, you know we celebrated thirty years a few weeks ago?"
"I did. Better than I was doing a few weeks ago, Ed. Good for you two."
"About that. Did you agree to this?"
"I agreed to a surgery to save my life. As for the body, this was what they had. You'd think I'd be pissed about this, but no, I actually really like it. Anyway, though, I do need to run, my daughter is waiting and I don't want to keep her too long. Bye!"
As Vincent walked away, he had a big smile on his face. His daughter was right. All this, all she had suggested, even how he was dressed and interacting with people, she was right about all of it.
