Laura liked to explore old places. She wasn't an urban explorer, at least she didn't think of herself as one. They tended to be a bit more adventurous, even reckless, exploring places that dilapidated and at times dangerous. Her interests were more toward the abandoned and unused, places that were intact but no longer in active use.

Such was this old mansion. It had been the home of a local businessman for many years, but about a year ago he seemed to disappear. Even the people employed at the mansion, now at other jobs, were unsure of exactly what happened to him, knowing only that they were all fired a few days after his last appearance by an unknown person. It was assumed he had died and that the mansion was simply tied up in legal proceeding regarding ownership.

It was with this that Laura decided to check it out for herself. She did not break in, instead let in by a former employee who, while she suggested against Laura entering, assured her that Laura was breaking no laws.

Laura looked around at the large foyer, examining the first floor with interest. Before going up to the second and then the third floor, she decided to check the basement. Often, she learned from her time exploring, the basements often have the most interesting rooms.

Well, she was right, Mr. Havers knew as he walked around the second floor a couple of days later. It was where he had spent almost all of his time the last year, perfecting with several disgraced doctors a new surgery. This was not the first they had done, but it was the first that was done on at least one willing subject. Of course, Laura was not the one who was the willing one, but that was beside the point. Her body was perfect for him.

He'd soon go back to the lab and see if they had worked out the issues that they had faced with this procedure. His body was dead, but that was of no real concern. They did, though, manage to save her head, still alive in a jar of liquid to keep it alive. While down there, he'd go pay her a visit. After all, it was her body just two days prior. She might as well see it from time to time, even if it does have his head on it, right?
