"So, Mr. Taylor, how do you feel?"
"Weird as hell still, doc." Ian Taylor said, sitting there with his legs crossed. "I don't think I'm ever going to get used to this."
"Well, it has only been two weeks since the procedure. That is little time, given you had a male body for thirty-three years."
"Yeah, I guess, but I don't get it, how am I supposed to adjust to this? I feel so weird. Not bad, just weird. Everything feels different. I mean, I know it's supposed to feel different, I'm a woman now, but I don't feel like I can do this."
"You, don't?" The doctor asked.
"No, since you guys did this, I get why you did it, to save my life, not criticizing you guys with this, I just, I don't know. Can I really do this?"
The doctor stopped, put his pen down, and took a moment to look over Ian. Finally, the doctor spoke.
"Tell me, Ian, did you dress yourself today?"
"Yeah, who else would?" Ian said, scoffing a little. "What, you think I'm a child?"
"No, I don't. Your hair, brushed by you, styled by you today?"
"Yes, and yes."
"You pose, the way your legs are, the way your hands are positioned, none of this was forced? You're not trying to do this, are you?"
"No, doc, what the hell are you getting at?"
"You just said you can't do this and that you'll never get used to this. Well, I don't think you realize it, but you can do this and have been the entire time we've been talking. I think you just don't see it."
At that, Ian's expression changed. He smiled slightly, almost sheepishly.
"Wow. I didn't even realize. I just, I, I don't know what I thought. I guess I can do this. I guess I can."
"There you go. We'll meet in a month, but Ian, I think you're going to be fine. I truly do. You have a good day."
