"That was the guy who tried to sell us out!" The tall, well-dressed man said, looking at the shorter, heavier, older man who simply shrugged and smiled.
"Was the guy. Hardly a guy anymore, huh?"
"Why isn't he dead? Did the hit not work?"
"We had another idea. See, he talked, but when we got to him he told us what he had said. My girlfriend, she was less cooperative and needed some medicinal help to speak. They overdid it and turned her brain to goo. Rest of her was fine, though and that neurosurgeon did owe us, so he did this."
"Why? Why not just kill him once we knew what he said?"
"Because we did not know what he actually said, not truly, and this sends a much more shocking message. Will anyone dare speak if they know this could be their fate? I doubt it."
"He seems happy about it."
"He's just happy to be alive, and he thinks this makes us even. He has no idea, and I want to keep it that way. Remember, keep your friends close, and I think you know the rest."
