Carter knew that this place was old. He had heard that it hadn't had a single person in it since the sixties, that this place had just sat, unused and uncared about for decades.

That made it interesting to him. He was an urban explorer and he loved getting into places that hadn't been touched for years or even generations. The older they were, the more interesting they were to him.

He figured that getting inside would be child's play, given the age and the lack of modern security, but he found it much harder than he had realized. The locks were old but very well made and while he was able to pick them eventually, he realized that there might be more to this place than what he first thought.

Finally, he was able to get in, amused when he saw a police car roll up slowly and put his window down.

"Hey Carter," the officer said. "The old Manning Insurance Building?"

Carter had to laugh. He was well-known to the police, mostly because of the care he took to be sure he wasn't doing anything illegal. As far as anyone could tell what he was doing was fine.

"Yeah," Carter said. "Someone call?"

"No, just checking up. That place hasn't seen a person in it, look, I've been on the job for twenty-five years and I've never seen it opened. Just a warning to watch. Literally no one has any idea what the conditions are in there. So, I'll be back in about an hour. I am coming in if I don't see you."

"You guys normally aren't that worried."

"Yeah, but we've heard about weird things in the area. Not here specifically, though, but we're out and about more than normal."

"Okay, I'll watch." Carter said. "Thanks, Stevens."

"Yeah, no sweat."

An hour later, Officer Stevens did not see Carter there and true to his word, he walked into the building. God, he thought, this placed looked like a time capsule. What was weird, he thought as he entered, was how it seemed almost frozen in place. He started through the lobby and saw an open door leading down to a basement. As he got closer, he noticed that light was coming out of it, too much for a camera or a flashlight. Weird, this place should not have power...

He did the smart thing and called for another unit and two more officers joined him. Stevens and the one officer, a petite blond woman, went down the stairs and two doors down the hallway saw an open door with the light on. They immediately walked inside and both stopped dead in their tracks.

They didn't know what to think here. There was Carter, but that was certainly not what he looked like coming in here. It was his head, but below that was not his body, it was that of some woman!

Carter just looked at them, and folded his arms.

"So, those weird things you mentioned but didn't go into detail on, they didn't happen to involve a mad scientist, did they?"
