Amy just had to explore it. It was almost written into her DNA. If she saw or heard of a weird place, she had to see it and examine every inch of it, and this place was no different.
She had been told there was an abandoned place that had some weird old science-y stuff in it. She had heard it belonged to a mad scientist, a strange hermit who hadn't been seen in a long time. This place, she heard, was to be condemned and demolished soon, so she wanted to see if there was anything to this.
Normally she was more prepared and pressed more practically for something like this but she found out that there was no structural issues and somehow the place still had electricity and heat. That was a red flag, but not a huge one. She had dealt with places that shouldn't still have power but did.
She got there, taking her car as far as up the driveway as she dared and then she got out for the last forty or so yards. It didn't disappoint. It was older and did look like it was abandoned. She walked inside, immediately heard the door close behind her, and no one ever heard her scream.
A couple of hours later Dr. Stillman walked away from his makeshift lab, very pleased with how the machine operated. She would be awake soon and while she would undoubtedly be very angry at all this, that was not his concern. The machine had worked and his ruse at this being abandoned had managed to net an unwitting "vollunteer"!
