They walked into the hospital, and Detective Lopez had to laugh.  Murphy turned and scowled at her.

"What?"

"Just, you walk like a man.  Hell, you almost lumber!"  She said.

"How, how do I not look ridiculous like this?"

"Well, at least one way is to not strut!  You're in a skirt for fuck's sake!  No one will be impressed!"

"Oh, damn it..."  He softened his gait, looking at Detective Lopez for inspiration.  He tried to mimic her steps, and actually found it more natural than what he had been doing.

"Better?"  He asked.

She stopped and looked at him as he walked.  She grinned.

"Far better!"

The got to the reception desk, and the nurse, a heavier Aftican-American woman, had to do a double take.

"Where is Dr.  Braxton?"  Detective Lopez asked.

"His office is on the third floor, but he may be in surgery.  I'll check."

As she checked, Detective Lopez turned to Sergeant Murphy and laughed.  "I think you were noticed!"

As she said that, the nurse looked at them both.

"He should be in his office, and, I suggest you hurry."

Soon, the were in the elevator, alone.

"What did she mean by hurry?"

"Probably just freaking out about your head!" Lopez said.

Both got out and his office door was open.  They didn't knock.

"Detective Lopez and Sergeant Murphy."  Both held out their badges.  We have some questions.

"Look, consult my nurse, she handles..."  He then looked up, seeing Murphy's head on Bethany's body.  He did eye up Murphy's new legs, but then bid them to sit down.

Murphy crossed his legs, feeling the hosiery on his smooth legs.  This would take time getting used to.

"So, I guess I should talk."

"That would be an amazing idea."  Murphy said.

"Okay, so, we had this genius young doctor.  But, he refused to follow directions."

"The guy I met..."

"Was a ruse.  A competent doctor no doubt, since you lived.  But, not who did this the main procedure."

"We both lived!"  Murphy spat out.

"He's never done that before!"

"So, you knew about this?  And, I'm guessing, for a while?"  Detective Lopez asked.

He went quiet.

"Look," Murphy said, leaning in, feeling weird at his shift of balance.  "You can bring in lawyers and we can tear this place apart and destroy your rep, which is probably deserved given what you said.  Or, we can talk.  You're not stupid.  You know what we want."

"I do."  He said.

Soon, both were heading out of the hospital with files in hand.

"We barely had to squeeze him!"  Murphy said.

"It helps that he can't exactly dispute your head and body!  You know, if you weren't transplanted, this would have been much harder!"

"You know, maybe there's a silver lining!" He said, getting in the squad car.  "But, I need better shoes!"

"Well, go shopping after work!"  Lopez said.  "But, we need to check in at the hotel and then with Schultz."

"Oh, fun fun!"

"I thought you liked this woman!"

"I do!  I meant Schultz!"

"He's good police, but he can bust balls when he wants."

"How would you know?"  Murphy laughed.

"Not literally!  Besides, your in the same boat as me now on that end!"

"Damn, fair."

"So, Chinese?"

"Let's have it delivered the hotel.  I think I have some questions for Bethany."

Soon, they were back at the hotel room with Chinese in hand.  The officer in the room opened it up for them.

"God, thank you!"  Bethany took her bag in masculine hands.  "I was starving!"

She dug into her noodles and sweet and sour pork.  Lopez and Murphy both sat down at the table, eating.

"So, what did you find?"

"Well, have you noticed a young, attractive guy around?  Almost following you?"

"I don't think so?"

"Maybe this guy?"  Lopez held up a photo.  He was taller, handsome, young.

"Yeah, yes!"  She had to swallow before she could respond fully.  "Yes, I have!  Just around.  I just thought he took my same route home!"

She stopped eating, putting her fork down.

"He's involved."

"He's likely the whole mastermind.  The old dude was an assistant.  So, write down where you've seen him."

She ate, though more slowly and wrote everwhere she saw him, including probably dates.  Murphy and Lopez ate, watching her write with one hand and eat with the other.

She finished, and Lopez took the paper.

"Look, we didn't want to ruin lunch but.."

"I know, time is important here."  She said.

Murphy and Lopez got up, disposed of the trash, and Murphy turned.

"See you in a few hours."

"Yeah.  See you."  Bethany said.

They got to the squad car and Murphy looked at Lopez.

"I feel like she took that hard."  Murphy said.

"If you found out someone was eyeing you up to literally steal your body below the neck, wouldn't you?"

"I, I guess so.  Never had worry about that!"

"Being a woman you have worry about a lot more than a man does.  I mean, normally not that, but a girl has to be careful.  Especially when alone."

"I mean, I knew that, but there's knowing it and really understanding it.  Shit.  I feel for her."

"At least you saved her life!"  Lopez said.  "I'm still going to bust your non-existant balls for not, uh, womaning correctly, sure, but you'd expect nothing less!"

"I'd be more worried if you all didn't!"

"So, next hospital?"

"No, I think we go to Schultz first.  I wonder if this asshole is a creature of routine..."
