Karl:

“I wonder how long it was this time?  How long was I sitting on the shoe rack in the closet?”  The black low heeled woman’s shoes who used to be known as Karl wondered.

“It must have been quite a while this time since  I didn’t even become aware that I was being worn until Tara was driving to work.  It took until almost lunch time for me to remember her as my wife instead of ‘owner’ or ‘mistress’.  The shoes thought ruefully.

“The longer she keeps me this way the harder it is to remember myself in between times I am worn.  I also seem to slipping away into that unthinking state quicker and quicker the more time passes.”  They thought with concern.

“I’ve had fun being different things for you to wear Tara but when are you going to change me back?  I miss being able to wrap my arms around you.  Caress you.  Make gentle love to you.”  The shoes silently pleaded longingly with Tara.

“I barely remember what being human was like.  Smelling breakfast cooking or your gentle perfume or remember what it felt like to breathe, talk or smile.”  The shoes reminisced wistfully.

“All I know now is the warmth of your feet inside me.  The feel of the ground underneath me as I protect your feet.  The disorienting sensation of watching the world move around me from two different points of view as you walk or dangle one me from your toes and the cold loneliness when you aren’t using me.”  They thought sadly.

“Did she wear me today with the intention of restoring me?  She seems to be in some kind of conference right now and has taken me off...” the shoes pondered as they started to go dormant again from not being worn.

I wonder if she’s thinking...  about me...right... n...?”  The shoes wondered as their consciousness slipped away once again.

Tara:

“OH MY GOD!  This conference is SO boring!  I can barely keep my eyes open.”  Tara thought bitterly.

“I would rather be at my desk working on the Patterson case that sit here.” she thought, rolling her eyes at something the speaker just said.

“Oh well, at least I can plan out what I’me having for supper tonight.  I think I’ll prepare some salmon and fix that asparagus I bought over the weekend.”  Tara decided.  “ Oh!  I’ll steam up some of those red potatoes I have too!  Perfect!”  She smiled to her self, triumphant in her decision for dinner.

“Now if I can stay awake for the rest of the presentation....”  She thought as she caught herself drifting off again.
