An hour after all that madness had happened, Jacqueline was sitting at a small desk by the entrance to the reception — the very same desk where her former secretary Michelle Stevenson had been sitting just that morning. Now, on the nameplate next to the door to the large office, it said:
Michael Harris – Chief Executive Officer.
Jacqueline froze, staring at those letters as if all her humiliation was locked inside them. Michael’s voice was still ringing in her head, sounding far too confident, strict, and absolutely calm. He spoke as if he had always been the CEO, and she, Jacqueline, was his secretary.
The bra pressed tightly under her breasts, the straps of the lingerie dug into her shoulders, and the skirt’s fabric clung to her nylon-covered legs.
— This is bullshit... — she shifted her gaze back to the open Facebook page.
On the screen glowed a profile with a neat feminine photo: Jacqueline Stevenson. In the latest uploaded picture, a young woman, looking at Jacqueline from the mirror in the very same gray suit that now hugged her body tightly, gazed into the camera with a slight smile. Below it was written: “Accepting congratulations on my new job with the big boss!” Followers, comments, summer photos in bikinis, captions like “my best friends,” group shots with coworkers — it all felt far too real.
— Jacqueline? — a blonde around thirty in a bright red dress walked up to her. — Why are you so nervous today? Brought the wrong coffee again?
Jacqueline flinched, her fingers twitching on the mouse.
— I... uh... — Jacqueline stammered. She recognized her. Lisa, HR manager. Just this morning she had been giving reports to him, Jake, about staff turnover. And now she was looking at her like a subordinate, with a slight touch of superiority. — I... Jacqueline?
Lisa raised her brow and smirked as if she’d just heard something obvious. She crossed her arms over her chest, her scarlet dress hugging her figure, and her gaze carried that same condescending tone usually reserved for juniors at work.
— Who else? You’re freaking me out. Look, if you’re trying to play dumb, bad idea. Michael can’t stand it when his secretary acts weird.
— Michael... — Jacqueline barely breathed out, her heart pounding again as if she’d just escaped a battlefield, and she whispered so quietly Lisa wouldn’t hear — This is nonsense...
— Yes, Michael, — Lisa repeated with a faint smirk, clearly enjoying herself. — Your boss. He said he’s got a meeting in twenty minutes, so get the papers and coffee ready on his desk. And why am I even the one passing this along.
With that, she turned sharply, huffing in annoyance, and the heels of her shoes clicked against the reception tiles.
Jacqueline stayed seated, her fingers still mechanically gripping the mouse even though nothing was changing on the screen. In the monitor’s reflection she once again saw that same face — feminine, well-groomed, with even makeup and long chestnut hair that now partly fell into her eyes. That exact expression — irritated, brows furrowed and lips pressed tight — seemed to mirror her entire state of mind.
Calm down. You need to stay calm. Think. If I start yelling and proving that I’m Jake Harris, the former CEO of this company, they’ll just think I’m insane. Nobody even blinked. For everyone else, I’m Jacqueline Stevens, a secretary in a tight skirt and a bra squeezing my tits so hard I can barely breathe.
She shifted her shoulders automatically, but that only made the bra straps cut tighter into her skin.
— Jacqueline, — a new voice sounded, velvet but firm.
She jerked her head around. A man of about forty-five stood in the reception, tall, with gray at his temples and an expensive suit. His smile was the kind Jake himself used to greet clients with.
— Steven… — slipped out instead of “Mr. Rogers,” the way Michelle, and now Jacqueline in her place, would usually address visitors. But the name left her lips on its own. She recognized him. One of the investors she had been negotiating a deal with just this morning. Only now he was looking at her condescendingly, like at a pretty secretary.
— Well, well, — he smirked, stepping closer. His eyes slid down her gray suit, lingering on her breasts, where the blouse fabric stretched slightly under the pressure of her new bust. — Haven’t we gotten quite close already, Jacqueline?
She felt the heat rush to her cheeks. His stare seemed to burn right through her, and every inch of fabric across her tits suddenly felt so sharp, as if the blouse had vanished completely.
— Uh… we… — Jacqueline swallowed, forcing her voice to stay steady. — Mr. Rogers, I shouldn’t have called you that, — she muttered, averting her eyes and nervously tugging at the edge of her blouse, which only seemed to make her breasts stand out even more.
— Oh, come on, — Steven chuckled, resting his hand on her desk, leaning close enough for her to catch the scent of his expensive cologne. — I like it when beautiful women call me by my name. You look… much more attractive now.
— Oooh! Steven! Good to see you! — said Michael, instantly throwing Jacqueline a crooked look, — Why didn’t you take him straight to me, Jacqueline?
He stressed her name, as if deliberately hammering in her “place.”
— I… — Jacqueline faltered, the cold spreading through her chest. Just this morning she had been the one managing this investor’s schedule, and now she stood under that look like a schoolgirl caught making a mistake. — Sorry, I didn’t know that…
— You didn’t know? — Michael narrowed his eyes coldly. His voice was firm, but there was something new in it — that same superiority Jake himself had used when speaking to subordinates just this morning. — Jacqueline, your job is simple: keep an eye on the reception and greet the guests. I’m not asking the impossible.
She wanted to explode, to scream: “Who the hell do you think you are, fucking Michael! This is MY office, my company!” but her tongue felt glued to the roof of her mouth. Instead, she only nodded, avoiding his eyes.
— Sorry, — she forced out in a thin voice.
— Oh, come on, buddy, she’s a cutie, — Steven said easily, still resting his hand on the desk and blatantly letting his gaze slide down to Jacqueline’s breasts, rising heavily under the tight blouse. — More than a cutie, actually. I see you’ve got a talent for picking your staff.
Steven’s smile was too satisfied, too snake-like. Jacqueline felt her cheeks burn hot, and she jerked at the edge of her blazer as if hoping to cover herself. But the fabric only stretched tighter across her boobs, outlining their shape even more.
— Steven, — Michael smirked, a trace of arrogance in his voice, — glad you noticed. But don’t forget, she’s just my secretary. She has other duties.
“Just my secretary.”
The words stabbed into Jacqueline’s head like icy needles. She — Jake Harris, who just this morning had held this man by the throat with the terms of a deal — now stood with lowered eyes, blushing because she was being looked at like some pretty decoration.
— Yeah, yeah, of course, — Steven snorted, but stepped back reluctantly. — Let’s go.
— Coffee or tea? — Michael asked in a friendly tone.
— Coffee, — Steven answered without even looking at him. His eyes kept following Jacqueline, and that stare made her want to disappear.
— Jacqueline, — Michael’s voice rang out sharp, like glass breaking, — Two coffees. And make it quick.
She nodded faintly and stepped back. Her heels clicked uncertainly on the floor again, and she had to grab the edge of the desk to keep from losing her balance. The movement made her breasts ache as they bounced in the bra, while the skirt stretched tight across her hips. Michael’s office doors slammed shut, leaving her alone.
— Shit... — she whispered under her breath, turning toward the coffee machine, — I can’t just let this go...
